Welcome to the game. The game information thread has a lot of good information in it to get ideas from and the game map has a map of Falcons Hollow.

We will be using roll20 for encounter maps . The link is in the game information thread first post.

The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

Greetings everyone!

The character is basically made. I sort of cheated and used the free website: pathbuilder 2e.com to make the character. Now most of the time is copying it from the site to the GM's character sheet. After that, its just the finishing touches of character description and such. I also have a very "basic" outline of a personality of the character but that will change and grow throughout the adventure. :)

But now I have to get ready for bed and get some sleep for a few hours before getting up for work. The life of working 3rd shift is so much fun!!

Will continue working on character tomorrow morning after work. later!

Okay, I think I have narrowed myself down some.

In no particular order:

Wandering Gunslinger (Never played one)
Insatiably curious Wizard (preferably Necromancer)
Straight up Fighter (haven't played one in PF2)
Sorcerer
Monk
Rogue (if we need one)
Bard (if we need one)
Cleric (if we need one)

The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

A few things I noticed about the app.

1. It does not change character speed depending on armor worn.

2. It does not allow you to pick extra languages depending on character's intelligence.

As an Elf, the character gets: common and elven. Got Druidic for free. It then says somewhere the character can get more languages due to intelligence. Which is +2. So, does that mean I can pick 2 extra languages?

I guess the extra trained skills worked due to intelligence?

The app can be confusing at times. I am VERY new to Pathfinder 2e. :)

The online app and the Android app have some minor variations. Yes, the extra skills would be from int bonuses, as for the languages, you will need to pick those as well. I found that both the Android and the PC version of the app adjusted for speed.

1. It does not change character speed depending on armor worn.
Response: It does, but if your strength meets the requirements for the armor then the rules state the speed penalty does not apply

2. It does not allow you to pick extra languages depending on character's intelligence.
Response: It does, in the Details section if you click the languages box it'll tell you how many bonus languages you have.

No. Emerging guns in campaign. You'd just have to have in your history ...backstory the how's of getting a gun and knowing about it ..unless you went with the crossbow aspect of the class.

Flintlocks or matchlocks don't scare me in a campaign. The class has it's own innate checks and balances

Definitely was not a complaint, just an observation. Normally a party is like: Catfolk Rogue, and his Ysoki Wizard brother, the Tiefling Dwarf Sorcerer with an over joyful nature, A Lawful Evil Fleshwarp Cleric who wants to help the party for the lulz, and the Human Fighter named Ted.

The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

The classic intro of "The heroes all meet in a tavern" can be a slow start. Also, some players might be only able to update once a week...if that. I am sort of lucky. I do my 8 hours of work, look if I need to update, then get ready for bed and do it all over again.

Also, each character is different and have their own motivations for adventuring. Two were already friends so they were already traveling together, one happened to be next door and wanted to apologize for the noise, and then the other was desperate enough to join perfect strangers in hopes of going on an adventure for coin.

Larannia has message to deliver to some people. After that, she was going to ask the woman at the bar about any job opportunities. The druid sort of hired the stranger to keep her out of too much trouble while in town.

Now...the DM has lots of ways of forcing the group together. All getting arrested for a crime they did not commit seems to be a very direct way. The other, Un invasive way would be to have a "job board" in the tavern. The players go to the board, pick a job, and then go to the person offering the job. It so happens all the players go the same job. They are told to form a group for the job and *poof* instant adventure.

Larannia already has a quest and managed to drag someone along. That will be a little adventure for the two of them. With the women busy, what trouble can the guys get into or rather, what trouble gets into them! :)

Sometimes, you have to go out and find your own adventure. Or just go ahead and tell the DM hurry and bring the pain. :)

Larannia, I noticed that you made your Make an Impression roll as a flat check. It is normally a Diplomacy check. Are you trained in diplomacy or have at least a positive Charisma modifier?
Side note: If your charisma modifier is not positive you will need to change your description image, she definitely has a positive mod.

Also, you might be able to improve the Sheriff's attitude using other skills depending on the GM. There are mechanics in the Kingmaker AP that allow for improving attitudes based on what that character is interested in, not just how diplomatically you can talk to them. (eg. you might make friends with a farmer using your Nature skill or Farming Lore)

Hal, our resident Paladin has been absent a while. I've messaged him twice now with no reply. I'll give him a couple days then seek a replacement in case he was away on spring break or Ill.

I wondered, but didn't want to be the one that jinxed it / seemed impatient. Thanks for continuing to look after the health of the game.

Not a requirement. I'm ok with a statement  of I want to go to the general store and pick up xxx. For xxx.
The only reason to go anywhere particular is if you want to get additional quests and agree on payment...or to establish contacts.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

Looks like the player playing Gorluk wants to do a speed run. So I guess there is no need for anymore roleplaying. I guess the DM can tell us how much we get to spend on "supplies". We will do all the shopping by private messages. Larannia will go to the Herbalist and pick up that side quest. So, we can just start at the first random encounter or at the entrance to the dungeon. Fast enough? :)

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

It’s not about speed running but good pacing. Front loading the story with low stakes side activities that don’t advance the main goal makes a slow moving boring experience. You can’t get away with that in video game design much less play-by-post. I’m fine with sandboxing for side quests and info gathering but that makes more sense between adventures not front loaded in the introduction. And you can still role play and engage in meaningful activities at the same time. They’re not mutually exclusive.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

well Pacing is my job. I will try and do my best for all to enjoy. The 'side' quests...interestingly enough...all go the same place ;) they are different hooks thats all. thats meta I know...but an encouragement from the helpful DM to add to your treasure intake.

I wont handwave travel to the 'Dungeon' so to speak. Ive moved the player marker in roll20 to the area map and put the part marker on it so you an see where your going. The vast majority of this adventure is a dungeon 'crawl' as its called. As most good adventures, theres ample opportunity within for role playing.

because of that, I wont shortcut the travel so folks with skills in the wilderness can shine as well. That also allows me to roll 'random' encounters {yeah}...we have our sixth. I will gradually work out Hal in game and intro Black Stars....hes an Ant Gnoll (I had to look it up)...hes more a Coyote and less a Hyena

There's three additional quests. Found at the following: Cutyard with Payden.the temple and roots and remedies. All places that would be normal places to go exceptaybe the Cutyard

In my previous post I wasn't meaning that I wanted to spend weeks gathering info, just a simple let's get all our quests lit up sort of thing so that we can gather the Silver Moon Mint (or whatever) for the herbalist while we are on our way, rather than hearing about that quest later and having to go back out.

What’s going on behind the scenes is that the GM is trying to adapt a published adventure meant for table top (where this situation would have been resolved in minutes) without considering how it would work on a much different medium. I bring this up and get dismissed for wanting to play a video game.

For the record the majority of play by post games are based on published adventures unless they are of the freeform type. I'm sorry to see you both go. I did not intend to be dismissive of you Gorluck, obviously you're in the play by post forum for more of roll playing and less role playing. That's perfectly fine.

Loved the in game post Larannia but I think I should have mentioned we are doing milestone levelling, so at prearranged points....unless I'm vetoed by a majority of players... Or 4 of you 6 say you'd rather itd rather be experience points.

This is a case of too many options. Pick a lane people and let's get going. Looks like we lost the half orc so we will be struggling with encounters. I enjoy the roleplaying, but we are not getting anywhere. 'Easy' boat trip or #5 where party will only have to cross a small stream.

Pick one and lets go.

So the keelboat can carry you all and the larger rowboats can. The ferry isn't an option as it only goes back and forth across the river.

Back from vacation, and had a great time. if anyone is curious, I'll share a picture or two.

Since we seem to be the music video sending group, I'll provide this. Although the song is from the perspective of Brits and it's performed by a Swedish band, it's very appropriate for this Memorial Day weekend.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgGhhnQB1gw

I'm third generation military, an aspiring historian, and have the insides of a marshmallow, so this stuff hits personally. Enjoy your weekend however you choose to. The folks we remember and honor wouldn't want a 3-4 day long wake. Just, you know, take a moment in your way to reflect on what this is all about.

I love Sabaton but this is my favourite.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPdHkHslFIU

My Uncle Mark's middle name was Mons because that's where his own Uncle Mark died.  The Royal Navy turned down my applicaton cause I has cerebral palsy.  My dad was an army medic in Gibraltar during his national service, One of my grandfathers fought from 1914-1919 and came out with half a lung missing, an alcohol problem and a proessional rugby career shot down in flames.  (To be fair, he may have got the alcohl problem from 23 years as a trawlerman.)

As for the Sabaton video you posted.  It's a cover of a song by Motorhead and when Lemmy died a band I was in started playing it regularly, particularly for some gigs we did as volunteers in a hospice in South London.  It's a brilliant song and the patients loved it.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

been wrapped up in summer classes that have been taking up a lot of time. by the end of the month I'll be free and clear (for about three weeks).

Other hand, writing a paper on the origins of the drow and problematic depictions of race in D&D, so that's fun.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

Hi everyone. I'm sorry I haven't been around. I had internal bleeding and was hospitalized. Then out and put back in with gall bladder issues...they took it out. Then out and on pain meds. Just getting a clear head. Diagnosed with knee auto immune hepatitis.

Ie I'm not well. My lactic acid climbs and I get fuzzy brained. No energy.it pains me to say this, I don't know how I can continue, feeling like I do. I'm terrible sorry. I miss running games and playing just unsure how to continue.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I think this is beyond revivify!

Continue by taking your time! Now we know what you are up against and we are obviously willing to wait. If you want to keep GMing as a way to take your mind off things, we're here for you. If you want to bail, auto immune is a valid cord to pull. Either way, the most important questions is, are you healing?

In reply to GM Dread (msg # 225):

Do not worry about the games.  They, or others will be here when you're able to engage with them again.  Life happens.  Concentrate on getting better, and recovering.  I hope you feel better soon.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I had my players for a game wait 8 months last year to do a deployment underway (navy systems block this website but you can dork out for hours on espn, tell me how that's fair....), and they all came back.

I'll wait however long you need.

Did she die from complications due to covid or something else? I know two people who died after contracting it. Both were elderly but it is still hard on the family.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

No she died of Vascular Dementia with diabetes & COVID mentioned on the death certificate. On the other hand they didn't mention bone cancer and neuropathy both of which she'd been living with for eight years.
