Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I am getting a Commition for a drawing for my Storm Druid. This is a rough draft. Color and background will follow eventually. :)

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I understand the party needs to stock up but can the shopping be done “off-screen”? Or are we expected to role play interactions with every shopkeeper before any actual adventuring starts?

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

Not a requirement. I'm ok with a statement  of I want to go to the general store and pick up xxx. For xxx.
The only reason to go anywhere particular is if you want to get additional quests and agree on payment...or to establish contacts.

FYI I turned on the looking for players light and reached out to one person who wanted to play who I had to turn down. If I don't get a yes by Friday I'll post in the players wanted to replace hal.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

Looks like the player playing Gorluk wants to do a speed run. So I guess there is no need for anymore roleplaying. I guess the DM can tell us how much we get to spend on "supplies". We will do all the shopping by private messages. Larannia will go to the Herbalist and pick up that side quest. So, we can just start at the first random encounter or at the entrance to the dungeon. Fast enough? :)

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

It’s not about speed running but good pacing. Front loading the story with low stakes side activities that don’t advance the main goal makes a slow moving boring experience. You can’t get away with that in video game design much less play-by-post. I’m fine with sandboxing for side quests and info gathering but that makes more sense between adventures not front loaded in the introduction. And you can still role play and engage in meaningful activities at the same time. They’re not mutually exclusive.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

well Pacing is my job. I will try and do my best for all to enjoy. The 'side' quests...interestingly enough...all go the same place ;) they are different hooks thats all. thats meta I know...but an encouragement from the helpful DM to add to your treasure intake.

I wont handwave travel to the 'Dungeon' so to speak. Ive moved the player marker in roll20 to the area map and put the part marker on it so you an see where your going. The vast majority of this adventure is a dungeon 'crawl' as its called. As most good adventures, theres ample opportunity within for role playing.

because of that, I wont shortcut the travel so folks with skills in the wilderness can shine as well. That also allows me to roll 'random' encounters {yeah}...we have our sixth. I will gradually work out Hal in game and intro Black Stars....hes an Ant Gnoll (I had to look it up)...hes more a Coyote and less a Hyena

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I would actually like to talk to all these people first so that if they have additional things that they want (errand quests) we can pick them all up at once and make more loot from a single trip.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I basically shared that info for Gorluk so he realizes not all is as video games. Sometimes there's tangible benefit.

There's three additional quests. Found at the following: Cutyard with Payden.the temple and roots and remedies. All places that would be normal places to go exceptaybe the Cutyard

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

GM, you can go ahead and remove me from the cast. This campaign was clearly designed for a specific type of player and is a poor fit for me. Good luck not having more players ghosting on you.

Regretfully, on reflection I don't feel I'll be a good fit either and will bow out. Wishing everyone luck.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

I feel like there is something going on behind the scenes here. I did not intend to upset anyone, if I did I really apologize because I didn't know I was doing it!

In my previous post I wasn't meaning that I wanted to spend weeks gathering info, just a simple let's get all our quests lit up sort of thing so that we can gather the Silver Moon Mint (or whatever) for the herbalist while we are on our way, rather than hearing about that quest later and having to go back out.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

What’s going on behind the scenes is that the GM is trying to adapt a published adventure meant for table top (where this situation would have been resolved in minutes) without considering how it would work on a much different medium. I bring this up and get dismissed for wanting to play a video game.

Re: The Darkwood Inn (OOC)

For the record the majority of play by post games are based on published adventures unless they are of the freeform type. I'm sorry to see you both go. I did not intend to be dismissive of you Gorluck, obviously you're in the play by post forum for more of roll playing and less role playing. That's perfectly fine.

I am surprised you dropped so quick Black Star, and not sure why... But I will remove you both.

I am sure I will have no problems filling the slots. Good gaming to you both.

Put the advert up. This will be the first time I publicly asked for players, so I fully expect several responses. We will continue playing and I'll write Hal and Gorluk out.

I’ll be far less grumpy than the dwarf. Imbur is a happy-go-lucky lumberjack (get the Monty Python jokes out now) with some…anger issues.
