Waterdeep (A First into Society)
The party finds themselves at the River Gate entrance into Waterdeep, City of Splendors. After a lengthy chat with the well armed and organized guards at the gate, with reference to do's, the do-nots, and eventual obligatory warning of "Cause no trouble to have no trouble follow you." the party decides to head north along the High Road.
While walking, livestock and wagon in tow, the party makes a slight jog northwest and finds themselves in front of a 5 story complex with aged stone about the exterior and parts of the grounds. A sign posted securely in the ground reads The Gentle Rest Inn and Stables.
A curious team effort to glean information about the establishment reveals to the party the following:
The Gentle Rest is an old, large, comfortable inn where it bends to meet Waterdeep Way. The inn has five floors and a stable located on an alley behind the inn. The current proprietor is Marlak Buckman, a jovial, stout, middle-aged man of average height. He greets guests warmly, saying 'Welcome to the Gentle Rest. May I fetch you a cup of wine or a tankard of ale? Or perhaps you seek lodging?' The Gentle Rest has smooth, wooden floors and walls with typical furnishings for an inn. The shortest way to the stables is the back door of the Inn. If you use the front door, you must circle (clockwise) around a long block of buildings to reach the Gentle Rest stables. That path would take a couple of minutes. The Gentle Rest stables are sizeable and a cobblestone apron provides an area for rigging wagons and carriages. Inside are typical horse stalls and a hay loft. Towards the back is space for wagon and cart storage.
