OOC

Signe:
Beyond that its just the same, actions have consequences, plan ahead, consider your goals, etc. Usually good and evil games both end up at the same place; it's the journey to reach it thats different. A heroic paladin or a Tyrant barbarian may both end up the new king, it's just who did they save and what atrocities did they commit to get there? Etc.

This is the gist of what I had in my application,  and from what was shared so far I would say we are all on the same page.
To misquote from a recent favorite of mine (Villain's code) "there are thugs and criminals, and then there villains"

For playing such a game, I had a few through the years, but none ever got far.

OOC

I've only been in a couple of 'evil' based games, but they were all enjoyable as long as they lasted. As said, its just a different route to some of the usual end goals - usually. Without a certain sense of morality getting in the way (most times), it opens up options for alternatives to the traditional paths to accomplish those goals.

In reply to Chalintra (msg # 63):

I've found in party-based evil games, Chaotic Evil has the same flag as Chaotic Neutral usually does in good games. The 'I might cause trouble lulz', mainly a danger with strangers (Asking why they're Chaotic is always very important).

Ackbal is Chaotic Evil. But for me it's more the barbarian's complete disregard for orderly society and rules or morals rather than unpredictable behavior and mood swings (like the Fey have, which is the 'lulz' kind). In fact Ackbal is very predictable. He seeks a strong enemy and hunts it down to gain its strength. Then repeat.

I already foresaw this issue and had a think on it. Ackbal will work with others who lead him to greater prey than he can handle alone. (The party) He's ideal muscle for a more cunning evil overlord. As long as Ackbal faces strong enemies, he is content. He's not the kind who would overthrow the overlord, simply because he has no desire to rule whatsoever.

Re: OOC

I almost always play Lawful Neutral dedicated to their faction or bloodline, so Lawful Evil isn't that much of a difference. Just slightly more selfish personal code in pursuit of those goals.

And Diablerists and their ilk are just my thing, hence why I almost always play Warlocks.

Karl and I are already deep into contract law in our RP thread. I love it.

Signe is CE but she straddles the line between Chaotic and Lawful. The deciding factor was asking myself 'if Signe was making the rules, would she change them on a whim?' and the answer is absolutely yes (within reason).

Re: OOC

Currently having a monologue with a pirate captain who took offense at me looking at their ship.

Whilst we are stood on a dock...

Really considering grappling them and making the pair of us go down into the water.

I can swim and breath underwater, I doubt they can ;)

Re: OOC

Hello everyone!

I updated the rules for posting and RTJ a little, please make sure to read through them when you have time. Most of it won't change anything for you except this part; please make your subclass/subclasses visible on your sheet, preferably at the top where your class is. It makes it easier to plan encounters to make combat feel rewarding yet challenging for your characters. The alternative is adding them to the Biography section of your profile, but I don't know if there is space for multiclassing.

Thanks in advance!

Re: OOC

As it almost hurts seeing updates and realizing it is in private threads - how does everyone feel about sharing our stories (making them public) at some point?

Got no secrets here - okay, don't even have a story here yet  :) - but when I do, I've got no issues making it shared.  What good is being evil if others can't marvel at how evil you are?

MUHAHA.

Re: OOC

This is a good idea, open them when they're 'done' and lock them as the player/s move to a new thread. Though maybe a case by case basis (player consent i mean)? I'm sure some people are going to be very intrigue based, and others may be shy.

Confession, I don't read anyone's thread if my character is not psychically there, I like being in the dark to the larger world.

BUT...

That means it doesn't matter for me if they are open or not, I totally consent to people being able to see what Karl and I are up to.

I am; It’s always fun when the dice decide to make a moment impactful like the first divine smite you use. I don’t have overly much experience with Monks in 5e but I hope you’re having a blast.

06:43, Today: Signe rolled 16 using 2d8.  Divine Smite.

Re: OOC

5e Paladins critting remains one of the most fantastic experiences around a table.  When you can apply divine smite and get 4d8, 6d8, etc--holy cow.  Just fantastic.

Sadly Signe's not going that deep on Paladin but It does make me want to play a regular paladin one day, I can see why. And at higher tiers? Ooof.

I'm looking forward to unlocking Eldritch Smite, doing 1d8 + 1d8 per spell level to something I hit, as well as knocking it prone.

Re: OOC

I've got a Dwarven Fighter 1/Warlock 9 currently doing his best to survive in the Tomb of Annihilation here on rpol.

He's had a rough day... spoiler ahead

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
His ancestral family armor and all his clothing just got disintegrated

But with the Polearm Master Feat and an upcasted Spirit Shroud he just did 132 points of damage in a round, so that was fun. Didn't even Eldritch Smite on the crit, but easily could have added 10d8 to the damage if he'd wanted to.

Re: OOC

I'm having fun playing the baddy as a character for once. I'm also getting a lot of crits for some reason. Ahhh, the despair of my foes reminds me of the wails of some of my players back when I DM'd a 7-year campaign of Earthdawn. I always rolled on the table. Not all characters made it but that also made the game exciting as there was no hand of god sheltering the group.

Mhh! It's good to be evil.
