Posting guidelines

In this thread, I'll outline the general guidelines for posting and playing. These are not rules set in stone, but please do your best to follow them.

1. Thoughts or telepathyshould be written in italics. For example, the phrase "'I don't think casting Fireball at the shopkeep is the best idea.' Tom thought to himself." would be written, in this format; "I don't think casting Fireball at the shopkeep is the best idea." Tom thought to himself.

2. Dialogue should be written within quotes. For example, Tom might say "I don't think casting Fireball at the shopkeep is the best idea." Your character should also have their own color for dialogue, for ease of reading.

3. Bold text should be used for emphasis. "I don't think casting Fireball at the shopkeep is the best idea."

4. Proper grammar is encouraged, but not required so long as the meaning of the message remains clear. However, names of your fellow villains and/or NPCs should be typed correctly. They are literally written out for you, you have no excuse to mistype them.

5. Keep sexual content to a minimum. I will fade to black if necessary. If you REALLY need to, keep it in the PMs.

6. This is already in the RTJ, but I can't emphasize this enough. Hurting children or animals without cause is an absolute no-no. As a general rule of thumb: if it isn't in the initiative, it's off limits. If you have a question about this, or you feel the rules are blurry - please don't hesitate to contact me!

Furthermore, even joking about sexual assault or otherwise non-consensual intimacy is cause for immediate termination from the game, without notice.

Rules for travelling and downtime

I really dislike travel/downtime rules, but to keep some sense of scale in this world, I feel it is necessary.

If your character decides to go on a longer journey OR take a downtime activity, eg. more than a day's travel away from their current location, it will translate to the following OUT OF GAME TIME:

- 1 to 30 days spent in game time = 30 minutes real life time per day spent

- A month spent in game = 12 hours real time per month spent

- A year spent in game = 24 hours real time per year spent.

During this time, you should NOT post messages IN CHARACTER. The exception to this rule is if you are in the same location as a character whom you wish to speak with; in which case, please use the thread provided for the location from which you left/are currently in. For example, if Tom travels from Point A to Point B with Kate, they should talk in the Point A thread until they arrive in Point B.

Typing in OOC threads is perfectly acceptable, however.

Rules for PVP

The likelihood of PVP being a thing in the game seems to grow as the game grows. I thought I'd outline some house rules for this.

PVP IS ONLY PERMITTED WHEN:
- It doesn't disrupt the flow of the game. PVP during non-PVP encounters is a perfect example of a DO NOT. If you have grievances, settle them after the combat.

- All participants in the PVP and I agree to it beforehand. Sorry rogues, you can't just one-shot a player 4thelulz.

- Killing another PC in PVP is NOT ALLOWED UNLESS BOTH PLAYERS AGREE TO IT BEFORE PVP STARTS. This also applies to AOE spells in non-PVP combat, but please don't abuse this. You wouldn't want another player disregarding your characters well-being so please extend the same courtesy to them.

- You notify me of the PVP occurring, so I can prevent cheating (not checking off spellslots, HP and so on).

Do not try to force PVP when it isn't necessary or wanted. Ultimately I'll be the judge of whether it's appropriate or not. Err on the side of caution when it comes to PVP, and always come to me first if you feel unsure.
