Setting: The Westlands

The three lands are Sefonia, Quayern, and Ossau.

--THE NORTHLANDS: Quayern, although everyone not from Quayern calls it The Northlands.

The Northlands are pleasant in summer, but freezing cold in winter. Everyone in The Northlands goes underground in winter, to live amongst the seldom-seen-above-ground trolls...

BRUTE
--The Northlands: TROLL
Look: rangy, hulking, mossy, craggy, looming, stony, thick, crystalline
Neither Animal Nor Vegetable: You have +3 armor... Although when you're damaged, it drops to +2 armor, and when you fall under half your hp, it falls to +1 armor.

You come from the vast caverns and tunnels under the Northlands.

THE NORTHLANDS people have experience with undead.

--THE EASTLANDS: Sefonia, although most people on the frontier call it The Eastlands.

The Eastlands are green and forested, with occasional gentle, rolling hills.

BRUTE:
--The Eastlands: JUST A REALLY BIG HUMAN
Look: towering, gangly, shuffling, misshapen, twisted, ugly, loud
Really Angry: After you take more than 2 damage or get insulted, take +1 forward (per round. Getting hit and losing 5 hp in one round doesn't mean you take +5 forward-- just 1).

The laws in The Eastlands are so restrictive. Don't hit people, you'll break them. Don't hit animals, you'll break them. Don't hit doors, you'll break them. Don't hit buildings, you'll break them. Rules, rules, rules. Out here on the frontier, they have fewer rules like that. It's definitely the place for you.

--THE SOUTHLANDS: Ossau, although everyone not from Ossau calls it The Southlands.

The Southlands are warm and dry, with lots of desert, scrub, chaparral, and plains with tall grasses.

BRUTE:
--The Southlands: DEMIHUMAN
Look: Choose one from this list: bugbear, hill giant, ettin, gnoll, lizardman, minotaur, ogre.
Then choose whatever adjectives fit you: hairy, furry, fanged, scaly, broad, rotund, etc.

The rumors about your kind being stupid and eating human flesh are 99% rumors made up by bigots and spread by the gullible who fear what they aren't familiar with. (All right, yes, there are probably one or two of your kind out there somewhere who actually are stupid and who consume human flesh, but that's not you. Heck, there are lots of humans who are incredibly stupid and probably one or two humans out there who are cannibals, but no one screams and runs away when they see any old human, do they? No!)

Smarter Than You Look: Whenever you take advantage of someone presuming you won't be intelligent enough to understand what's happening, be it during combat, trying to solve a riddle in a dungeon, or just in a social setting, take +1 forward.

Here on the frontier, however, at the start of The Westlands, the dangerous land where the empire fell, almost 300 years ago, life is more dangerous.

Each of you has either volunteered or been chosen to help the new Baron (or Baroness) of the stronghold come to grips with the inimical surrounding lands, by going out on exploratory expeditions...

The Baron (or Baroness) is the leader (although possibly not the leader in actual combat) of the expeditions, and he or she is responsible for the Stronghold, which may occasionally have to prevent attacks... but which must also host diplomats (and investors?) from The Three Lands, so as to garner more funds for the expeditions, and to strengthen the Stronghold...

Most (the Spellblade, Swashbuckler, Brute, Dragon Knight, Warlock, and Gunslinger playbooks) are here because the frontier is very perilous, and strength-- whether physical, magical, or both-- will be needed.

The Archeologist is along more for his, her, or zir historical expertise.

The Lucky Fool is coming along just to bring the expeditions good luck.
