It stood before them, and it was obvious that it was shaped like a coiled snake.  There appeared to be some kind of cave or opening on top, as well.

Anna took a deep breath and headed inside.

Somehow, inside the hill, things were different-- strange.  The tunnels branched and forked and twisted in ways that were quite impossible to fit in the hill that they'd seen.  Navigating them would be tricky...

Ins + Ins or Will + Will

The tunnels seemed to loop in on themselves.  Somehow Anna knew that they were getting lost.

...but up ahead, something was moving.  Four sets of yellow eyes shone in the darkness.

"Hello?" Anna called out.

There was no reply-- but four strange creatures were advancing on them.  They wore robes covering much of their body, but the hoods were thrown back, revealing reptilian heads with large yellow eyes.  Each one carried a lantern.

And a very large knife.

"Uh, look there's no reason for violence, the energy called me here," Anna said.

They were nevertheless advancing...

"I don't think you can talk them down," Krovna said.

"Then I guess we'll have to fight," Anna said.

Earth and Water

Anna tapped into the surrounding elements and turned the ground under one of them to a goopy muck that made it hard for them to move.

(OOC: Using Quicksand. That's 10 damage and the one I targeted is slowed.)

One of the strange creatures managed to reach Anna, but its attack was slow, and she avoided it.  Artz and his dog were pummeling one of the others, while Krovna cried with rage and struck a blow against hers as it wounded her.  Alana and the fourth were both successfully evading each other.

Anna tried to blast one of the things with a blast of earth.

It was badly hurt, and now it was on her, stabbing!

Anna attacked the thing back with her dagger.

Krovna tore her foe apart and moved to reinforce Anna; Artz and his dog defeated their foe as well, but Alana was still under pressure.  The lizard-thing was on the defense now, pressured by two foes.

Anna attacked with her dagger again.

The lizard-things were down at last.

"What the heck were those things?" Anna asked.

"Heard stories about things like that," said Artz, "but I've got no idea how true they are."

"Like what?" Anna asked.

"Mysterious things that worship strange gods and knife whoever finds them," Artz said.  "It's not really much of a story.  It's all in how you tell it."

"Ah, well, it seems that they are real," Anna said. "Let's continue."

The maze was getting more confusing, even though it shouldn't be possible.  Senses were becoming distorted...

...was there something ahead?  She couldn't be sure, but it looked like it.

But where were the others?

"Hello?" Anna called out. "Where did you guys go?"

A gigantic voice echoed around her.

They were not chosen.

"Why did you call me here?" Anna asked.

The power of the Ancients is within you.  It calls to me.  I hunger for it.

"What does that mean? What am I?" Anna asked.

You are of the Ancients, and so power is within you.  Feed me.

"How do I do that?" Anna asked.

Come to me.  Come to me, and I shall eat.

"Do you intend to eat me?" Anna asked.

Perhaps I should.  I hunger; I must be fed.  But perhaps I need not.

Come closer to me, and I will know.

Anna moved closer.

Why should I not eat you? the voice said.  What other purpose do you have?

"I want to find out what an ancient is exactly and why people want my power," Anna said.
