A couple of questions and expectaions.
This is meant to be an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons game (2nd edition). It is meant to take place in the Planescape setting. But to begin I see two paths- starting as characters in Sigil or starting in a homebrew I use to start games with beginners- which I refer to as the Band of Gold.
In either case we can start with primes and planars as characters... one takes us headlong straight into the setting, and another takes us in gradually. So to each person who sends an RTJ I ask- where do you wish to start, Sigil or BoG? Do you want to be prime of planar?
Now to expectations- I prefer if you have familiarity with 2nd edition rules. You can buy a pdf in many different places. When I started playing (in the 80s) I was handed a players handbook and told- "Read that, then you can play." I will not be so strict, but I need some effort on the players' side to understand what they can do and who they are within this world. This game will start at higher level (not yet determined) and you have to be ready to dive in. Since this is a play by post it is an easier task since you'll have the time to ask questions and research in the book and really get a handle on it without the pressure of setting at a table and suddenly need to know.
I will be posted rule changes. There are tweaks I use and optional rules I engage. There is a few but it won't be too much trouble. After the Players handbook there were numerous published books- including different ways to run classes, etc. I will outline the things I will be using from those- as well as a list of the books that will be available to you for character creation purposes.
Planescape is weird- Y'all. You go to a different place it matters what kind of spell you use, where your god calls kip(home) and where your gear was made and forged. In a forum/play by post setting this may be easier, or less stressful, to keep up with. If you don't understand what I am getting at, it'd be a good idea to research how magic spells, preist spells, and magic items work on the planes before forging a magic type class character in your mind.
Also note, I am not using Monster characters. The setting has a list of planar and prime types you may use, and I won't be having vampires or angels or whatever. Ask about it and I will not accept your application. Period.
Since I want to start at high level I'd also like to do some history forging for the cutters involved. It won't have to be extensive, but a handful of stories as to "how I got to be such a bad-ass" will be constructed. These are not new bloods- these are adventurers tried through the hardships of the world(or planes) who have come out with stories to tell.
Lastly- I curse. I am an adult and all players will need to be too. This means we may get a bit more graphic in the scenes of violence and we can talk about adult situations without getting weird about it. This does not mean I want descriptive scenes about torture or XXX, I will still fade to black on a lot of that kind of thing. But you know... we are grown ups.
