Introduction and RTJ
Dark whispers ripple through the alleyways, cryptic incidents unfurl, and the one common strand weaving through this eerie tapestry is a term whispered in hushed tones: 'Project Dreamland'. What is this shadowy undertaking? The onus of discovery rests upon your shoulders. In 'Project Dreamland', the shroud of secrecy is pervasive - not a single soul, not even the moderator, possesses the ultimate truth at the game's outset. This is because the rumors, the tantalizing morsels of half-truths and conspiracies which the characters probe, are born from the minds of the players themselves.
The game operates on a system of player-generated rumors. Over time, these rumors serve to piece together the larger narrative puzzle, shaping the world and the unfolding conspiracy within it.
The game operates in a strict scene structure, and the mechanics involve creating and resolving an escalating series of rumors. A critical part of the game involves determining the veracity of these rumors: are they true, false, red herrings, or even traps? The process of sifting through these rumors and their implications ultimately coalesces into a cohesive, though not necessarily straightforward, story.
While players do exert some control over the narrative, the overarching truth remains obscure, only revealed through the diligent unraveling of rumors and clues.
The game's setting is flexible and can be adjusted to fit a range of themes, whether it's modern times with supernatural or extraterrestrial elements, historical epochs, traditional fantasy, or even futuristic landscapes. Part of what will need to be decided is how independent the group of characters is who and what, if anything, is backing them up. It could simply be a group of conspiracy enthusiasts who accidentally stumbled upon something, journalists following a lead, agents of a secret government agency, or anything in between.
It's important to note that while this game is not meant to be humorous, some level of self-awareness and not taking it too seriously is expected. The final tone will be set by the players themselves.
