I'm genuinely unsure if I actually want to change things up. Certainly it isn't anything I want to rush into/commit to before we've locked in a fourth, and there might be some more stuff that comes to light with that which sways me one way or another.

In all honesty I've even considered retiring Maya in due course - perhaps at the end of this mission. She's a bit of a glory hound who isn't especially keen to hang back and shoot or play support, so in the event that our team ends up leaning into playing castle I could definitely see myself bringing in someone better suited instead.

Assuming she'll be piloting the Zheng: unequivocally her main concern is E-War stuff. Even with the dampners on their side (and Science team approved) Maya's both very aware that her improvised 'upgrades' have probably done her frame's defenses few favours and less than pleased to be up against a threat she can't just punch her way out of. Probably.

Beyond the obvious "I'd really appreciate if you could keep me from getting cooked," I think the main thing would be taking advantage of that satellite of Erin's to paint targets so that Maya can punch their lights out before they pose a serious threat. Whether that was their intention or not, I think there's a real chance Maya's interpreted some of Erin's fairly innocuous comments about their network as bravado and is in a bit of a "you've talked a big talked a big game, now back it up" place when it comes to the level of battlefield oversight they're offering. Maya wants to dive deep and wants Erin to prove that she can pull off being the eyes in the back of her head now that Sunder's off the table.

I’d say that is pretty accurate. Up until now, Erin has been in squads as the only Lancer level pilot and with Bridger backing them up, they have been the top dog. Erin is realizing how out of depth they might be in a full Lancer squad. They are definitely going to be bolstering a ton to get those EW attacks as much of a firewall to get through as possible. Plus, the more that hostile EW happens, the more the satellite gets charged to scan or even punch holes.

I'm happy with Lock Ons to take advantage of, Werner's a blasty sort of guy.  That and clever crowd control if it's in Erin's capabilities.  If there's a way to funnel the baddies into a firing lane, I have a pretty devastating Line attack between my ZF4 and Thermal Lance.

Although, I've also been toying with different frames in the future.  Maybe a Saladin who can force enemies into a melee Thunderdome for Maya!

Lots of options there for movement control - I can personally recommend Iskander for that (favorite mech), but Vlad definitely has some options in that department, if you want to stick to IPS-N. Another option is White Witch - it definitely leans more towards defender, but its level 1 options both grant you immobilization tech.

Looking some more, if you want to do more Bolstering, Efreet 1 has a system that helps allies move, and a gun that can force enemies to teleport.

Even the starter Everest is a great mech.  No weaknesses at all, and you can stay in an Everest all the way through LL 12 and never feel left behind by more specialized mechs.

Right now I'm thinking that I probably won't be changing frame for the simple reason that the in-wheelhouse alternatives I'm considering either don't feel particularly thrilling (see: Heavy Gunner turret mode) or don't diverge enough from my general Zheng gameplan to make them feel worth considering - and are generally things I picked Zheng over in the first place.

True.

There definitely are frames I could plug in very easily which would play the "You kinda have to shoot the tank because it's mauling your face off" style of defender (i.e. Vlad, Gorgon, Lycan), but the Vlad and Lycan would either suit HMGs or be less interesting to me as melee platforms than Zheng, and Gorgon just feels anaemic with only GMS weapons at its disposal.
