[OOC-Rules] Setting, RTJ, Character Creation & House Rules

Feral Frontlines: Rage Across the Ruins uses the Werewolf the Apocalypse, 20th Anniversary Edition rules. It is set on the Western Front of the Great War (1914-1918).

Setting
Although the game is set on the Western Front, the Prelude will begin in England in May, 1914.

Theme
Balance in the Midst of Chaos.

Mood
Tension, desperation, and hope.

Adult Game
Feral Frontlines: Rage Across the Ruins is rated as Adult.
RPOL Adult Games Policy:
Adult games are games which have as part of their content graphic sex or graphic and gratuitous violence.  Though their story and plot may be very strong and elaborate, they detail sex and/or gore in a way to which children and teens should not be exposed.  Adult games are restricted in access to those who are (1) of the age of majority and (2) have specifically requested access to Adult games.  In no case are Adult materials permitted in any public area of RPoL: GMs of Adult games must take care that only those users who are members of their game can view the Adult materials contained therein.

The language in the game may be... harsh. Likewise, combat can be violent. I don't want to accidentally step over the line into adult territory. Regardless, please fade to black rather than writing "graphic sex" scenes.

Request to Join (RTJ)
Send me a character concept. At the very least, please include what Tribe and Auspice you would like to play. (Ideally we will have one member of each Auspice, but I'm not going to limit you.)

Characters must be (non-Black Spiral Dancer) Garou. No Lost Tribes, Fera, Kinfolk, etc.

Character Creation
Characters will be created using the Werewolf the Apocalypse, 20th Anniversary Edition rules. If you do not have access to the book, don't worry - I'm happy to help. (Also, the rules are very similar to other, previous editions, so there's that.)

Please use the character sheet I will provide. (I've posted a sample below so you can just copy and paste, if you like.)

Characters may have a maximum of 7 points in Flaws.

NOTES

* Technically you are still pups as of the Prelude, but we're just going to pretend your Cliath for the time being.

For this reason, you do not need to come up with a Deed Name if you don't want - you can earn one during the Prelude (or between the end of the Prelude and beginning of the game proper).

[OOC-Rules] House Rules

Willpower
Any WP expenditure for automatic successes must be placed in the comments section of the dice roller before you roll.

Injury
ST will not enforce wound penalties. It's too hard to keep up with in a forum-based game.

Abilities
Knowledges
RAW, characters can't attempt a Knowledge roll if they do not have any dots in that particular Knowledge. IMO, there is always a chance you know something - heck, even a farmer who doesn’t anything about astronomy may have overheard a conversation with relevant information. To simulate this, characters without a relevant Knowledge Ability may roll 1d10 to determine whether they know relevant information.

Example: Speaks-the-Truth's buddy, Guy, is bleeding out after taking a bullet to the leg. Unfortunately, Speaks doesn't have any Gifts to help him, and his knowledge of Medicine 0 means he's limited to understanding that sleeping next to the latrine smells pretty terrible. Still, he's Garou, so he's seen enough injuries in his time. Bill, Speaks-the-Truth's player, rolls 1D10 and gets a result of 6. Success! Barely. Speak-the-Truth manages to put a tourniquet around Guy's leg, ensuring that he'll live to see another day.

Languages
All characters should be fluent in English. It will make life infinitely easier for dealing with mortal NPCs. All characters also automatically know the High Tongue ('cause they're Garou).

Linguistics Knowledge
This is a Knowledge Ability I am summoning forth from the dustbin of history. Unlike in earlier editions of the game where it determined how many languages a character spoke (that is now covered by the Multi-Lingual merit, it is now limited to determining how well you understand the structure of languages. Characters roll Intelligence + Linguistics to determine their ability to understand a language that they do not ordinarily speak; the difficulty varies based on how similar the language is to one the character speaks already.

(These rules were modified from those found in another game. I wasn't able to reach the ST of that game, but if the ST happens to see this, please feel free to send me a PM so I can ask for permission.)

[OOC-Rules] About the Storyteller

Hi, all. Every GM has a preferred style, as does every player. This post is to share a bit of my background so we can keep misunderstandings to a minimum.

First off, this is my first attempt at running a Werewolf game and my first attempt at running a game on RPOL. (Thanks to the huge database of games already here, I've managed to borrow some rules that I think will make this game run more smoothly.) As a result, I will not claim to be the perfect Storyteller. But, as my momma never said, but I wish she had, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

I've been gaming since 1994. I started off with written forum games and only later moved on to tabletop games (Shadowrun, Earthdawn, GURPS, and the World of Darkness in addition to WEG Star Wars). However, the last time I ran a game was more than a decade ago. Long story short: I'm rusty. Please bear with me as I shake off the cobwebs.

In keeping with that rustiness, please feel free to give me constructive feedback. I want us all to enjoy ourselves.

Third (fourth? fifth? I lost count), while I am not a huge fan of GM fiat, sometimes I need something to happen regardless of rolls. Please trust that I have what is best for the story in mind. I am not just trying to murder your characters. If I was, I would just drop an artillery barrage on your head. (fun fact: 60% of all battlefield casualties in the Great War were the result of artillery fire). That said, don't expect GM fiat too often. I really do dislike it.

Finally, if a rule gets in the way of fun, I'm definitely open to discussing it. If we agree to a change, I'll post it as a house rule.

I am most interested in telling a cooperative story that everyone enjoys.
