Requesting Access

Before requesting access, you are required to read the following:

Game rules may be subject to change.

Applications will not be accepted on a first come-first served basis. Please take some time and give some thought to your answers. Try to provide specific instead of generalised answers.

SECTION I. PLAYER QUESTIONNAIRE
  1. Please provide your age and year of birth.
  2. What is your current time zone?
  3. What is your average posting rate?
  4. What is your first language, if not English?
  5. Why do you wish to join this game?
  6. What are your expectations for this game?
  7. What is your experience with gaming in general?
  8. What are the sorts of things do you enjoy? (In terms of games, books, movies, et cetera. I'm interested in hearing about anything, really.)
  9. What are taboo issues for you? (For example, some people are averse to games that depict drug usage in any way. Others feel uncomfortable with current political issues.)

SECTION II. CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE

I require that my players be competent in writing. They don't have to be masters of prose or anything like that, only competent. If you are incapable of describing your characters beyond a class/race combination or their feats, or if you cannot write a post beyond "I attack the enemy" or "I follow the leader", then you probably shouldn't apply to this game.

Take the template below and fill it out with the character you wish to submit. If you have any questions, you may message me or see if I've already answered them below. I won't be looking at character sheets, so if you submit one, I'll probably ignore your submission.

When pitching your character for the game, keep in mind that some characters may not fit with the game I'm trying to run. Or perhaps won't fit with the characters other players are running. My philosophy is that there needs to be a synergy between the players, GM, and the characters so that we're all rooting for the same thing.

Which in my opinion, should be "a successful game".

Therefore, expect to make a few tweaks and even some large modifications to your submission after receiving feedback from me.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Here are some answers to some questions you might have.

What is the Big Picture?

The world has fallen. Armageddon or Ragnarok, or whatever it was called, happened. The kingdoms and nations of the world now lay in ruins, especially in the Old Kingdom, where this game takes place. This is all true.

Yet this game is not really about that. This is a game where the players explore the ruins of the Old Kingdom after the Fall of Men, perhaps for wealth, for glory, or for answers. Whatever their reasons, they are all found within the catacombs of long dead kings or the ruins of the last great civilization of Men.

You might liken this to a sandbox or call it West Marches-esque. That means you must make your own meaning and provide enough initiative for the game to move forward. As the Game Master, I won't be holding your hand or explaining details about the world or setting to you, unless you earn this information through skill checks or whatever. You must discover and decipher this on your own or not at all.

Who are the players supposed to be?

Your characters come from the far distant Lands to the East. Their reasons for coming to the Old Kingdom are their own, but they must have some reason, some motivation that drives them to do what they must do. Read the Reference: Player's Guide document for more information.

I've purposely left the "Lands to the East" fairly vague, so that you can provide your own backstories. Just keep the player's guide in mind, and look especially close at the race and class entries. Try not to contradict anything too directly, but otherwise, I welcome you to be as creative as you wish with your character.

Keep in mind also that the most any other players know about your character is your epithet and perhaps your description. The details of your characters history or past relationships will be largely unknown to them.

Is this Middle-earth?

No. While it may seem I have taken liberally from Middle-earth (I have, as well as from elsewhere), I see it as simply a source for inspiration. This game takes place in a world with a separate cosmology and history, though it evokes many of the same themes from the books that I love and cherish.

Is this a hexcrawl?

Not really. I've come up with exploration mechanics, and there are distinct areas in the game, but I won't be providing maps or battle grids or anything like that. You may, of course, draw your own maps to help you, if you wish.
