The Tip of the Bat'leth

Yomash considered Krovek for a moment.  There was a certain jealous feeling at such a death that refused to come for him.  To Doranesh, Yomash answered, "Not yet.  Come!" He had no time for her pettiness.  His blades were cleaned quickly, sheathed, and Krovek's disruptor was taken up as Yomash lead the way to the shuttle bay

The Tip of the Bat'leth

A hole, still wreathed in flame, had been blown into the side of the shuttle bay and the forcefield was down, allowing the frigid air beyond to fan the plasma fire. Thankfully,  most of the smoke and flame was being pulled outside.

Yomash saw Hur'kel and Talij holding their position against three Jem'Hadar who had emerged from the turbo lift.

Hearing the sounds of alarm, his strike team had abandoned surprise and launched an assault. Speed was their only advantage now. They had to disable the transmitter to allow the Invasion force to launch their thrust before the Dominion could respond.

Yomash did not pause as he reached the Bay from the side corridor.  He began laying down a withering pattern of disruptor fire to give relief to his team, "<red>ADVANCE!  MOVE!</RED". Speed was needed.

Yomash's team hemmed the Jem'Hadar in, preventing a breakout. They poured on a deluge of disruptor fire. Seeing that they were outnumbered, one of the Jem'Hadar turned toward the turbolift to disable it so that the attackers could not use it.

Is Yomash able to stop him in time?

The Tip of the Bat'leth

Yomash and his team eliminated the Jem'Hadar before they could sabotage the turbolift.  By his count there would likely be three more Jem'Hadar in the facility, plus an overseer.

Even with the facility on high alert, the plan could still succeed. If they moved quickly enough, they could disable the transmitter which would allow some of their ships to slip through the hole in the Tachyon Detection grid before the Dominion could compensate. They would not achieve total surprise, but they would have an advantage.

What is Yomash's plan to secure the upper level?

OOC: Three Jem'Hadar remain. Approximately fifteen minutes to complete your mission before the window closes.

The Tip of the Bat'leth

Yomash turned to Lural and pointed to the remaining shuttle, "Get that shuttle ready.  Fly out and do all the damage you can.  If we survive, you may pick us up and carry us all home to glory.  This is your chance for honor."

To the rest, Yomash directed towards the turbolift, "For the rest of us, we go to the heart of the enemy to tear it out with our teeth if need be.". He turned to lead them quickly towards the turbolift, "Talij, grenades!"

Turbolift assault, grenades ready when the doors open.  Breaching action.  Lural and the shuttle is the escape and failsafe.  She can use the shuttle weapons or shuttle itself as a last ditch attack should the assault not succeed.

The Tip of the Bat'leth

Yomash's team rode the Turbolift up to the second level. They took what scant cover was available. They deployed their grenades as soon as the lift was open, but...they found no resistance. The top level of the facility was as big as the lower level, but was given over largely to the systems necessary to the outposts duty of monitoring the Tylanis Sector and the Beta Quadrant at large. These systems were, unfortunately, protected by a heavy duty forcefield.

There were other rooms that were outside of the forcefield, but these seemed to have been locked down by the security alert. It might be possible to bypass the security lockout to access them.

It is still possible to accomplish your mission and allow the Invasion force to enter the Tylannis system undetected, but the denizens of this base definitely know that you are here.

Yomash snarled at the sight of the fields and sealed doorways.  To Talij, he barked while pointing at the field, "BRING IT DOWN!" He did not care how the engineer did it.  But do it they would.. For the rest, "Watch for cloaked warriors and bypass these door seals.  Find us a way to the enemy!". Yomash picked a door and tire at the control panel.

Time was running out for so many things.

Talij turned her attention to the forcefield, while the others tried the other doors.

Yomash breached his own door and within the room he found a beaten and bloodied Klingon officer. The officer's hands are bound and it is clear that he has been treated unkindly. Yomash does not recognize the warrior's face, but his uniform clearly marks his rank as a General.

How does he help his superior?

The Tip of the Bat'leth

"My fleet engaged the Dominion in the Archanis sector. We were heavily outnumbered, but we would not give up our territory without a fight. Our losses were heavy, but we took a bloody toll from the invaders. Yet the Dominion received reinforcements where we had none. We were forced back and I awoke in this place. Tell me, where is here? How goes the war?"

Yomash had heard of this battle. It had been some weeks ago and the fleet had been battered horribly before being forced to retreat. General Glug, the commanding officer, had been presumed killed when his flagship IKS qajunpaQDE had been destroyed during a rearguard action.

Hur'kel arrived and began to check over the general. He scanned with his tricorder to determine the severity of his wounds.

Back through the door, "Do I have my way in?  My blade thirsts!". He was, perhaps, putting it in a bit thick.  But time was running short.

As Yomash shouted, Talij succeeded in her work. The Forcefield came down, and, as it did, weapons fire immediately lanced out from the room beyond. Doranesh took cover, but Talij was hit.

The fusilade continued, the shrouded Jem'Hadar in the room beyond knew their work, giving the Klingons no opportunity to properly return fire.

An odd sound from behind Yomash drew his attention. The sound proved to be a strangling Hur'kel. He dangled off the ground, held aloft by an amorphous shape that had, moments before, been the General's right arm. Hur'kel went slack and, in a whipping motion, the imposter that posed as General Glug flung the medic directly at Yomash.

Can Yomash rally his team?

The Tip of the Bat'leth

Yomash's disruptor fire struck the Changeling, and, had it been the Klingon General that it pretended, he would have vanquished it. But, the Changeling's physiology allowed it to survive what would have proven lethal to most. Still, Yomash's assault drove the creature back, forcing it to abandon its disguised form. The rest of its shape became as amorphous as it's tendril-like appendage and it sprang from the floor toward the atmospheric circulation vents overhead. In a flash, its near-liquid form disappeared from sight.

How does Yomash respond?

Yomash turned away to the door again.  Hur'kel would live or die whether he took extra time for him or not.  There was a mission hanging in a thread.  Pulling a device from his belt and arming it, he shouted "Grenades! NOW!". He whipped his deadly device across into the areas held by the cloaked warriors.  He took a moment to kneel for his explosion...then waited for Doranesh to throw...  After the second explosion he charged with mek'leth and disruptor.  He was buying time now for Lural to finish their work...

Yomash led the charge against the remaining Jem'Hadar. One had been killed by the grenades he had thrown, it's charred form, now visible, slumped in the corner. The other two were disoriented by the explosion,  but met Yomash's charge.

Doranesh ensured that her commander would face even odds. She crashed into the second warrior as Yomash met the first. Mek'leth and bat'leth met kar'takin.

Do Yomash and Doranesh overcome their foes?

Yomash breaks the suppression and disorients their foes. Roll an extra die on the next exchange!

Hur'kel and Talij may live, but won't rejoin this fight.

The Tip of the Bat'leth

Yomash and Doranesh eliminate the last of the Jem'Hadar in a glorious hand-to-hand struggle. Before them stands the object of their mission--the Tachyon Emitter. However, there is a problem. Talij used the explosives you brought to breach the shuttle bay. You may be able to sabotage it manually, but you'll need to determine how.

But...something was amiss. Why had Yomash not heard from Lural and why was this facility still standing? Had she betrayed them? Left them to die?

And what of the Vorta which Yomash knew should be somewhere in the facility. They had checked everywhere except...the shuttle! They hadn't checked the interior of the shuttle before they had left Lural to get it powered up. Had the Vorta slipped aboard between the time that the alarm had sounded and before his team had breached the facility. That was the only explanation.

And the Vorta would want to ensure the survival of its god above all else...a god that had escaped into the ventilation system...

What does Yomash do?

The Vorta is aboard the shuttle and it wants to escape with the Founder.

And that was it...

No more second chances or backups.

Either they found a way to disable this device with blade, disruptor, and precious few grenades.  Or they'd die trying.

Yomash set to work on the systems....  Doranesh could check the others.  If they lived, they would help or stay out of his way.

. One success either direction.  With insight.  Can they disable this?  15:17, Today: Yomash rolled 9 using 2d6 ((4,5)).

The Tip of the Bat'leth

After precious moments spent examining the instruments before him, Yomash experienced a flash of insight. He realized that the pipes he had used to enter the facility were part of a geothermal relay that powered this outpost. If he could feed too much power to the Tachyon emitter, then he may be able to overload it in such a way that the components fused together, rendering the device inoperable. The mission could still succeed!

"The shuttle is still in the hangar," Doranesh growled. "That maghwl', Lural, means to cost of this mission either through treachery or incompetence. I will rip the beating hearts from her chest!"

She bent low to throw the still form of Talij over her shoulder even as she continued to spit curses.

Hur'kel grunted as he began to stir, coming to and trying to take in his surroundings.

Will Yomash complete the mission?

Yes, it can be can be successfully sabotaged!

Yomash set to work setting up the controls for the overload as quickly as possible.  To the others he barked, "Get to the shuttle.  There is a Changeling and a Vorta petaQ still here.  They seek to escape as well.  It may not be Lural in the shuttle.  Do what you must.  Stop that shuttle.  I will bring down this emitter. wej Heghchugh vay', SuvtaH SuvwI.  GO!"

Maybe they would end the changeling.  Maybe the Vorta as well.  Perhaps trey would find a way to escape after.  Yomash would not be going.

Doranesh looked over Yomash for a long moment, then gave a firm nod.  For once, there would be no argument from the First Officer.  Her silence spoke far more than her usual scathing tongue. She and Hur'kel managed to rouse Talij and the trio set off, limping and wounded, for the shuttle bay.

Yomash did not watch them go.  He was busy.  He set about the task with an easy heart.  Once the decision was made....  Once the moment had come....Everything become clearer.  Easier.  The poets had been right about this moment.  A Warrior's Clarity.

Yomash, for the first time in his life, felt absolutely sure what the next minutes held for him.  He smiled.

It would a good death.

Doranesh lead the way to the shuttle bay.  Her blade was ready.  Her disruptor was ready.  Lural would be lucky if the Changeling had gotten there first.  Leaving the two wounded warriors behind, Doranesh crept into the bay towards the shuttle, now humming with activated purpose.

A beam slashed the rubble near her and Doranesh responded with ease.  Her disruptor caught the Vorta before he could ide again.   Vorta were not warriors, like the Jem'Hadar.  It felt more like cleaning than a good fight.

The shuttle hatch was open.  Doranesh maneuvered around to see within...  And found Lural, disruptor in hand, ready to fire.  But Lural lowered the weapon, "What took so long?  That Vorta tried to take the shuttle, but I...."  A disruptor whined and Lural's shape rippled then flared to disintegrated nothingness....

When the flare faded, the real Lural, holding a terrible wound at her side, dropped the smoking disruptor before collapsing back into the pilot's chair.  A shaky hand began completing the last sequence, "We are leaving now. Not a question.

Doranesh considered that /this/ Lural might be the Changeling, but that could be decided after it flew them away from here.  She brought the others quickly.

The shuttle streaked into the sky as a ripple of overloaded conduits began exploding across the base, tracing fire and arcs of electricity through the tachyon emitter....

Yomash had succeeded at every aspect of his mission.

Qapla’!

In the hours following the successful mission, a cloaked Klingon fleet moved undetected through the tachyon grid and mounted a successful attack against the Dominion fleet in the Tylannis Sector. The Klingon fleet routed the Dominion forces with few losses, truly a glorious victory in the Empire’s war effort.

The remnants of the covert strikeforce were recovered by the B'rel-class Bird of Prey IKS nIyma’ and continued to serve the Empire.

Yomash of the House of K'toh-maag, batlh Daqawlu'taH!
