Re: { Out of Character Chat }
As if the reason I hit you is for not posting!  *whap*

Ah, anyway, as it's come up now, I've posted some rules in the House Rules thread for unarmed/non-lethal combat.

Essentially, Basic has no rules concerning this, and Expert reads only, "Characters who engage in combat without a weapon (for whatever reason) inflict 1 point of damage per hit, plus any strength adjustments.  A normal Hit roll is used. All standard combat rules also apply."

The new rules are pulled from the later Rules Cyclopedia, and while sort of long, they are pretty simple, really.  A quick summary:

    All character classes and levels of characters may use striking and wrestling techniques.  In unarmed combat, the attacker either strikes an opponent (with a fist, kick, &c.), or tries to grab an opponent (jump on, tackle, &c.).  Thus, we use two systems: One for striking, including all unarmed blows, and one for wrestling, for all other forms of unarmed combat.

    These striking and wrestling rules refer only to unarmed combat.  If a character attacks another with a weapon, even a weapon of opportunity (mugs, tables, chairs, &c.), this is armed combat and follows normal combat rules.  (Weapons of opportunity are treated as clubs, generally with a -1 to -4 penalty "to hit" based on how clumsy the weapon is in the opinion of the DM.)

I think that helps keep it simple for us -- any armed attack does armed combat damage, while fists, feet, &c. can do striking damage.  Any attempt to tackle, overbear, flatten, and so on comes under Wrestling.

If you look them over and have questions as to how they apply to your attack, just PM me.

Re: { Out of Character Chat }
Looks like that wrestling thing might work out after all, since the opponent is using a weapon he doesn't get the WR plus... :o)

Orken - Pro Dwarf Wrestler! With his stats he might have a succesful career! Thats a likely grab... I'll take him down and submit him! *Is the heavy weight champ!*

*follows suit and whaps Ildrulf over the head*

Orken, wrestler?  I think you might come up short in the wrestling ring...  I do not doubt you weight a lot though.

What?

Re: { Out of Character Chat }
Dwarf wrestler?  Seems unfair, what with the low center of gravity.  What would happen when I grabbed the beard and tried to wrench you around by it?  Would you get more put out than you already would be?

And what would you wrestle?  Greco-Roman?  Freestyle?  Or would you wear a mask, a skin tight yellow leotard, and claim to be misunderstood all the time?

Alhasial group?  Poor Ildrulf is over there talking to himself.  I can't respond to just him.  Can a few of you others maybe take some time out from OOC to post as well?

I'm sorry...it's Orken's fault.  He keeps us all so busy here in OOC, we hardly have any time for the actual game.

psst! Infithe!  I say we make a big show of reading over these new Wrestling rules, find ourselves a nice big mud-puddle, and start selling tickets!

Then, when everyone's bought theirs, we'll trip Orken and Quan into the puddle for the show, while we fly to Tahiti on the ticket sales.

What do you think?

(I think it could work.  Orken has, like, three and a half editions between him and any kind of dwarven resistance to tripping.)

I meant to nudge you in the side, Orken, but I forgot that your are vertically challenged, so sorry for elbowing you in the eye...  ;)

Good idea, Tan - as long as my dear brother does not freak out when he, like everyone else, thinks it is us that will wrestle...

But would it not be better to use a flying carpet than a ticket?  The former are usually a bit larger and easier to sit on...  Plus, no risk for nasty paper cuts!

What do I think?  "I think I will have kebab for lunch today", that is what I think.  ;)

Sorry. Been in the doctor’s office all morning. Now my eyes are all swollen and the pupils dilated. I think I am posting in the right thread though. I think this is OOC right?  You likely think me kidding…

Any way, I can see they have all decided to gang up on me while I am down. I am near blind and suffering a brain fart...

But no worries! I’ll be sure get you tomorrow. You just wait. :o)

Nothing like an innocuous drop or two from the ophthalmologist to bring even a dwarf down to mere mortality!  They only take a few hours to wear off... and we need to get our shots in now because attacking the defenseless is the best way to keep in practice for when they're not so defenseless!

Re: { Out of Character Chat }
Besides, you're a dwarf - how can we even tell when you're down?

(I know it's not your fault, but Peter Jackson set the tone with his treatment of Gimli in the movies.  Dwarves exist for comic relief.  There's nothing any of us can do about it, I'm afraid.)

eyes wide  Wow...that's...that's...genius!  I don't know why I don't think of these things.  OK, we can do it that way instead.

And it's OK if Ildrulf gets upset. He'll go all heavy-handed, and everyone will buy even more tickets to show they're not too scared.

Re: { Out of Character Chat }
While the unarmed combat system does look like it could be interesting, and fun, I don't think Ildrulf will be making much use of it.

Frankly he has waaaay too much trouble hurting things, when he's armed, to see much point in attacking without a pointy piece of steel in his hand.

No fair! Stop using that secret code to send messages behind my back, it's not nice. On this page alone I count the following (in order) set of secret smileys:

8), O.O, :P, "O.o @ Infithe = O.O o.O O.o O.o O.o", :o), ;), ;), :o), ;), :D

Why can't you just say what you mean?

Now see here little Mr. Kebler,  you touch my beard and I’ll see to it that you dissolve in milk… :o\ I like the Italian version Super Argo from film and not the Brazilian version with which I am unfamiliar beyond the comic book drawing so forget the yellow leotard. It’s gotta be red! Red with black highlights! But how’d you know… O.O

Now that is another funny comment in a laugh out loud while not being laugh out loud way relating to things spoken else-when.  Coincidence?  *Stumbles into a real conspiracy* Are all of you mods that know everything I’ve been about or is some one secretly seeding you information for their entertainment.  WTF is going on?

I hurt today. Reminds me of Infithe...

Well, Tanindara's definitely a character, or she wouldn't be in the game, which requires every player to own a character.

Actually, Cruinne made an exception for me.  I'm a real thief from Threshold, who exists only in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos, and not a character at all.

Not as smart as Tanindara will feel when I remove her from a couple of my games, on the grounds that, based on what she just said, she is a totally imaginary player with a real character...
