Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

Crusher 495 has every appearance of another seedy barrens bar--except the few details where they don't. The gang signs are non-existent, and there are people around-real, normal people. The interior of the bar is 'modest', to say the least. A bar and stools, an odd assortment of tables and chairs (but not enough of either). To make up for it, they have plenty of dance floor space (although at this hour, it's just recorded thrash metal piped over the speakers).

Despite it being around lunch, the bar is busy serving sandwiches and clean(ish) water. A lot of patrons who enter are ushered into a back door. It's not clear what's going on there, but it seems to be a brisk business.

The area has plenty of heavies lurking around, keeping an eye on things. Firearms are visible, sometimes handled a little irresponsibly. They're on edge, though.

I presume that if there's anything interesting about approaches/exits you'll let me know if/when that's relevant?

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

Duck hangs outside a bit, smoking a cigarette as he waits for his contact to arrive. He goes natural here, wearing a pair of aviators to block out the sun, nodding to a guy he knows, and when he thinks no one is looking, wincing a bit from the daylight. He sprays on some scented sunblock, which his neighbor swore by, and finishes his smoke. He didn't operate well in direct sunlight. He liked the city in the darkness instead, the city lights an angler's lantern and he, to his enemy, was its gaping, dark maw. Or, at least one of the little fish that swims inside of the maw, he mused.

When he goes indoors, he'd have to ask for that booth in the back, near the door. The hustle and bustle was excellent sound masking, and the trafficked entryway would make anyone trying to listen in stand out very quickly. Plus, it was away from the fragging windows. They'd been able to accommodate him in the past, of course, but that was back when he'd take his dates here. Since then, he started coming on his own for the service.

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

When Caduceus arrived, he procured Copperhead's suitcase and headed casually inside while White Duck was still busy smoking.  Over the subvocal mic he said, "I'll do a quick scope out of the main room, physical and astral, then find a spot with a suitcase-view of your desired meeting location.  I'll keep an eye on the room overall.  Just let me know if you need anything."  Inside, the sight and smell of people eating started to make Caduceus's stomach growl.  "I'll have a spirit on standby, as usual, and I suppose I might as well get myself a sandwich while I'm here too.  Any recommendations, Duck?"

Duck smirks, giving Cadeuces a casual nod as a passerby as the mage enters the restaurant. He takes another drag of his smoke.

"Philly cheese ain't too bad, but I come for the service, mostly. There isn't a chef on staff back there, but they use fresh ingredients if you order the right thing." he iterates over the comms.

"I'd take a table near the front entryway, but keep yourself obscured enough to turn away and not be noticed if anyone that recognizes you walks in."

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

On the approach there are some more heavies here and there, but nothing that appears to be affiliated with a specific gang. The place doesn't seem especially well-armed or well-teched, and at this hour things are pretty quiet.

As Duck is smoking, a helicopter flies low overhead. The sound drops to a dull roar as it ducks behind a building a few blocks over. Only a few minutes later, Roxanne arrives, wearing a tight, white skirt and bright red knee-high boots. A sharp change from last night. If she's as tired as you are, she doesn't show it. She doesn't look either way as she walks into the bar and scoots into the booth across from Duck. She keeps her Zeiss smartglasses on, possibly to hide signs of sleep deprivation, possibly because she's channeling something else over them.

"What have you got?"

From 1000+ meters up, presumably Copperhead can see where the chopper lands and see the Johnson step out

As soon as she sees the Johnson step out of the chopper, she radios the team
"J's inbound.  'parently she's not big on traffic."

She monitored the woman's progress, watching for threats in any alleys along the Johnson's path.  The positive thing about meeting at this time of day is that most threats were either asleep, hungover, stoned or some combination there-of, which tended to make them less assertive.

Duck, seeing as time is of the essence, gets right to the point in delivering the information.

"Junior hired the group, including your former work associate, to acquire your assets. We are currently in the process of tracking down these assets, but it's important for you to know that the guy is more than just a thorn in your side, he's a perp. We need clearance to deal with the issue if he becomes one, and don't want you to get the impression we'd be working against you if it came down to brass tacks."

"I should have guessed. I mean, we suspected, but... it's still low, even for him.

"I can't tell you to ... I don't know, hurt him or anything. This is strictly a 'find and retrieve' type job. Nothing illegal. But I know he does have a temper, and I expect you'd defend yourselves appropriately if things become physical. I can't imagine it would, beyond some chest-puffing.

"How are you coming on finding the chips?"

"We've made some solid leads on the whereabouts of your materials. If you recall, we were acquainted previously, and he did not make a very good first impression at all." he smiles, almost disarmingly so.

"However, the less you know about our specifics, the better. I'm afraid the disclosure of my team's diverse profile of skills must remain discrete for the protection of our clientele..." he nods politely, letting the moment hang just a bit. It was always good to let someone think for themselves.

"Of course, if you want us to put a solid case together against this guy so that you can take him down legitimately, we can manage that too, for an additional fee, of course."

"Right, sorry, oddball question from an associate of mine. Either way, I doubt hiring that team was for show and bravado, so you shouldn't underestimate the guy. That's all, unless you've got more questions. Figured you needed to know that tidbit sooner than later." he says, ordering a BLT and a glass of water.

"Perhaps. I didn't think he had it in him. But I suppose he brushed up on some extra-curriculars while in school. If he did, he won't want to be handling them for a few days. Well, not if he has two brain cells between him and his little posse.

"No, I don't have anything else. Please do hurry on those chips. If we can get at least one, that will give us something to work with."

"Of course, and I presume that any information you might have about his little posse would be of assistance as well. Please feel free to check our status at the number provided. Hopefully we'll retrieve all of your property, not just a single component. Either way, have a good one." he says, rising to allow the lady to leave, putting on his old-school southern manners as he does.

Duck nods, then makes an exit, going across the street to pick up some more smokes prior to his exit into the city's underground.

"Got all that? You've got my info, hit me up when you folks reconvene. For now, it's time for some shut eye."

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

"Ya wanna hol onta da gear fer now?"

Copperhead didn't mind the face taking her stuff with him, so long as he didn't forget it the next time he showed. up.

She monitored the Johnson as the woman made her way back to the chopper, keeping an eye out for potential threats or tails.  She also tried to keep an eye on White Duck, though that was more out of curiousity than any sense he was at risk.  When the snake shaman approached the van, she opened the window to accept the proffered sandwich.

"I'll letcha know when I hear's from my contacs."

When the team had disbursed, she put her van and drone on auto-pilot, heading back to her repair shop and settled in to doze.  When she arrived, she'd plug the drone in to charge and grab her cot for some more restful sleep.  Dragons only knew when she'd have another chance.

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

"Nah, keep recording for awhile if you want. One, it never hurts to know a way into the underground, and two, we may be able to utilize Crusher again, and this'll be a path of quick egress. Hell, you keep watching, you might see where I work, but I'll be sure to cut her off by then, won't I?" he muses, smirking as he wonders if the strange woman would go so far as to watch him nap.

On the return home, he sets his idle curiosity to rest and shuts off the gadgets. She seemed possessive over her gizmos, so at least he'd be getting a call over them. He packs the fresh pack of smokes for the next day, then groggily gets his shop ready, passing out on a futon in the back until the place opened at four. He was much relieved that he didn't catch a bad sunburn.

When one of his regulars, Julie Benitez, made her daily visit, he'd have a few questions for her about this job, but until she came knocking, as she usually did if he kept dozing past the shop's regular opening time. When he did, he'd ask her about any street docs she knows in the area of the run that treated mages or awakened individuals such as themselves. If the hospital morgue didn't turn up anyone, maybe the mage-type lead would turn something up in the communities of the living. If she were alive, there'd be questions, and any day ended with more questions than KIAs was a good one.

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

When the meeting was clearly over and Caduceus made sure nobody followed White Duck or the Johnson out of the establishment, he gathered what was left of his sandwich and Copperhead's briefcase, then brought the extra sandwich to Copperhead's van.  After gulping down his last bite and licking the end of his fingers he said, "Yeah, keep me in touch if either of you hear anything.  In the meantime I'll be hibernating in my lair."  He winked, then headed for where he parked his motorcycle.

After taking a safe meandering rout to his storage locker, Caduceus parked his ride and walked the rest of the distance to his house.  There he spent some time in ritualistic meditation in his basement lodge with his totem, Snake, then headed back upstairs for some much needed sleep.

Re: Dreamchipper:  Let me Make You an Offer

Roxanne's walk to her helicopter is barely a few minutes, and she's off in the air.

White Duck's walk to the Underground is also pretty short; down a few blocks, through a storefront and down into the basement. But almost just inside, as the radio reception starts to turn to static, Duck pushes through the press of the citizens of the Underground. People go about their business, and a few snippets of conversation can be heard above the hubbub - "- not safe to work the streets anymore. Simon was found all cut up in that alley. I know he specialized in servicing razor ladies, but that is too much service if you ask me -"

Caduceus and Copperhead enjoy an uneventful ride home--the barrens are still sleeping off last night, for the most part. The real trouble doesn't start until the sun goes down.
