I did something weird with the roller because it doesn't know how to add... So rolls, with corrections:

10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 10 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 2,2,1,6.
10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 13 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 4,4,1,5.
10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 17 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 6,5,4,6.
10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 10 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 2,3,5,2.
10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 16 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 5,5,5,6.
10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 9 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 5,1,3,1.
(Dropped)
10:06, Today: Hairy rolled 8 using 4d6, dropping the highest dice only with rolls of 4,2,1,2.

Head's up, I'm really not great with D&D5. Last campaign I thought I was a taxicab for two sessions before I realized I'm some sort of a cat. No complaints, just tell me if I'm doing anything wrong. (I also enjoy characters who are underpowered or die for silly reasons.)

Here's my first cut. I did look at Artificer first, but seemed like a magic user, which we have a lot of (and very complex) so I just went baseline fighter, planning to be the bullet sponge.

OOC - A whole new world

Ok, getting to putting my character together.  Questions:
1. When doing character development, I believe the settings should be as follows:
Sources - all enabled
Dice Rolling - disabled (because we'll use RPol?)
Optional Features - on
Advancement Type - milestone (seems to map better to Shadowrun?)
Hitpoint Type - manual
Use prerequisites - both on
Show level-scaled spells - on
Encumbrance type - use encumbrance??
Ignore coin weight - on (Nuyen don't weight anything)
Ability Score/modifier display - modifiers top
Character privacy - public

Is the above all accurate?

2. How do I see cyberware?  Do I need to enable something extra?

3. We talked about allowing one 'rare' magic item, but didn't really talk about additional gear.  Do we just assume we have certain things like encrypted radios?

4. For backgrounds, I'm thinking Courtier is equivalent to ex-mid-level megacorp employee?

5. I'm assuming that Alignment and Faith are for background purposes only?

6. Allies and Organizations should be handled the same as Contacts in SR?  (so 2 free 4-point contacts)

OOC - A whole new world

Changed my mind and decided to go multi-class, so re-rolling my HP
quote:
23:36, Today: DeusEx, for the NPC Dunno yet, rolled 49 using 5d10+5d8, rerolling ones with rolls of 6,{1}3,8,3,6,8,2,5,5,3.  HP (multi-class).

Need to better understand what we're doing around purchasing gear.

E.g. I picked up a +2 long bow which I'm assuming is actually a sniper rifle.

What does other stuff map to? If we're limited to 1 rare magic item, are we allowed any uncommon magic items?

Yes

2. How do I see cyberware?  Do I need to enable something extra?
Hah, it isn’t there. I think we should all just take a look at what magic items are available, come up with an equivalency in the form of a magic item, and just consider the effects of “cyberware” being that the magic item will be considered one tier lower when it comes to costs.

3. We talked about allowing one 'rare' magic item, but didn't really talk about additional gear.  Do we just assume we have certain things like encrypted radios?
I’m thinking of allowing one item of each tier below legendary. Let’s go balls out and do this big! I just watched Edgerunners recently and I’m not gonna be that super particular about it. I’m not shy about giving my players power and making things look like a big budget action movie.

4. For backgrounds, I'm thinking Courtier is equivalent to ex-mid-level megacorp employee?
Yep, pick whatever you think approximates best here. This is an experiment after all :)

5. I'm assuming that Alignment and Faith are for background purposes only?
They can be, but if someone wants to play a cleric I’d see it as a combat medic over a faith healer.

6. Allies and Organizations should be handled the same as Contacts in SR?  (so 2 free 4-point contacts)
Let’s give everyone as many as they want here that can be reasonably kept up with. There’s no mechanic in 5e in place for something like contacts, and I always thought of it as silly to make players invest their character xp/resources into something that could lead to a cool story hook.

Re: OOC - A whole new world

The downside of using every book is there's a ton to digest. But again, not stressing overly much on details. I'm expecting this campaign runs with a generous level of handwaving, and the numbers are there to tell us what kind of dice to throw.

I've not decided if I'm rebuilding Hairy, or if I should spin off a new character. I'm considering swapping Dexterity and Constitution; I assumed lots of gun-shooting, but in D&D, a high-dex damage sponge is harder to balance since heavy armor negates dex bonuses. Feedback is very welcome.

Your HP seems low?

Also, you should 'equip' your weapons to make it easier to see what they can do.

My only questions:
- is a horse equivalent to a motorcycle?
- did you have any concerns with my character sheet WD?
- how was the wedding? :)

Re: OOC - A whole new world

I didn't realize I had to equip :) Fixed now!

I was considering making Constitution one of the stronger stats, but I wasn't sure which trait to swap out, Dexterity or Strength. Shadowrun I'd assume we're all about shooting stuff, so strength is the dump stat of the three. But maybe I'm wrong? Thoughts?

Yes, I assumed horses are motorcycles (or cars). I hadn't figured out yet which way I'd want to take that. But something bulky. So if the mechanics are good, I'll go ahead and wrap it all in a narrative next.

I hope everyone had a happy halloween!! We spent the last two weeks building an eight-foot UFO attached to the front of our house, so it's good to emerge on the far side of our seasonal obsession.

Oh, we started! Awesome! I hope to get a post up in the next day or so. I think my character sheet is more or less complete, but I'm not certain I finished selecting my inventory. I will need to check into that and make sure I at least have the most important ones.

I did pick a broom of flying to represent the levitate-necklace that Caduceus had been using. Hope that is okay. I don't want him to carry around a literal broom with him though.

True...

Alright, I think my inventory is done. Not done well, but done. I picked out my common, uncommon, and rare magic items at least. Then I copy and pasted the gear I had from my sheet here. I am not sure what/how some of it translates over, but figured it would get figured out as needed. I am also not sure what my cash situation should be at, so I didn't touch that.

If you guys want to do that, that's fine, but I think I would need to step back from the game if it goes back to sr3r. For the same reason I mentioned in September:
Caduceus:
White Duck:
How’s everyone doing? Seems like we’re wrapping up this particular adventure, and I’m wondering what’s next. Also wondering if you guys would be interested in running things round-robin if you wanted to dust off Copperhead’s old character sheet and have me run us something to avoid burnout. I’ve been running online tabletop sessions for my friends from back home, and hell, it’s been a lot of good years we’ve been playing these characters, so I can try to tell an exciting story for a little while. Aren’t two of you guys good buddies in R/l or something? You guys should get a chance to play together! Anyway, just throwing that idea out there. What do y’all think?

I have been having a lot of fun in this game and the characters I have created here. That said, I was actually planning on retiring Caduceus after our current mission. He would likely become a shadowrunner contact rather than continue being a shadowrunner himself. Maybe make illegal spell foci in his spare time or something.

I love the game and the setting, but the system itself never really imprinted permanently in my mind. And I no longer seem to have the time and mental bandwidth to compensate like I did when I first started.
