Subject: Through the door
As Churisan and Urutlen move through the doorway and further into the room beyond, they report back that while the roof is, in fact a dome of sorts, the room is not round. The top of the ceiling stands at about 5 meters and is centered over a large fountain. The fountain is made of white stone and has obvious places where one can dip from it to drink using the implements hanging around its side. There are small orb type fixtures embedded into the ceiling, which emanate a low amber colored glow. There are also three rough hune corridors; one to the south-south-west; one to the west and one to the north, north-north-west. In a small alcove sits a man dressed in the robs of a priest of Thumis, he is in deep meditation and makes no move.

Subject: Joins the queue
Taking care not to block the aim of the archers Desh starts his way thru the doorway. He plans to stay behind the leaders as he is probably not going to have the right talents to understand the occupant.

Subject: securing the room
Chúrisan quietly waves in a squad of guards, assigning two to each of the passageways. They take positions at the mouth of each, and Chur waits for each pair to give an "all clear" signal before he waves to the rest of the group, indicating that they may enter if they wish.

Subject: En Guard!
Nesh will wave the remaining guards into a protective posture around the entrance, including Deshnah and Ssrivan inside a semi-circular perimeter. Weapons are at the ready, Nesh and the guards are watching the great hall. Nesh is in the doorway, so as to be help to either room if needed.

Subject: Deep Respect
Hrissu makes six gestures of deep respect towards the Thumis priest sitting in the alcove. He automatically looks to see if this person has everything he needs, a full bowl of food, an empty chamberpot. He shakes himself as though trying not to fall into an old habitual behaviour.

"To what holy place have we come?"

Subject: Churisan's actions
Apparently satisfied that there is no immediate danger, and seeing Hrissu approach the meditating priest, Churisan is looking more closely at the fountain.

Subject: what you can see.
The fountain is of pure white stone without a single marking anywhere on its surface. It is about 7 meters in circumference and has only a monolithic center -stone, which stands erect in its center. Water trickles from the top of the stone traveling gently and almost noiselessly down its side to the pool. The stone tucks back under itself in the last foot before the pool to allow the water to drop from the stone to the pool creating a soft, tranquil sound. There are small bowl-shaped devices used for drinking hanging from the side of the main body of the fountain. Each with its own stone hook to allow the bowl to be hung and thusly dry itself after each use. There is obviously a drain in the pool as the water level continues to maintain it current height and the water coming from the stone is fresh and clear, indicating it comes from a spring somewhere beneath. The lip of the fountain is only about 2.5 feet off the ground and is wide enough to be sat upon comfortably.

Unlike the room from which you have just exited, there are no markings of any kind on anything. Simply bare carved walls and a soft dirt floor which seems to have the footprints of a thousand persons from over the years and which helps to dampen the sounds made in walking.

The Priest of Thumis remains in meditation, a small brown satchel on his left and a small pot of tea to his right. He must have been meditating for some time, as the tea has long ago, gone cold and bitter.

"To what holy place have we come?"
- Hrissu

The robed figure inhales deeply, and his eyelids open. His gaze falls upon the penitent figure before him, and with his left hand he makes a symbol of acceptance and blessing.

In a soft, dry voice, he says "A place is as holy as the thoughts of its visitors. You are most welcome, all of you." He shudders slightly, and takes another ragged breath.

Subject: peace
Almodhim watches the strange priest with a puzzled look on her face. She feels a strange sense of calmness when looking at him, which is a feeling she has not felt too often in her life. She stays quiet to listen to what he has to say about this strange place.

Subject: Tea?
The grey-robed man reaches out, takes a small teacup and brings it to his lips. He sighs slightly, then places it to one side.

Carefully, he stands. "You took longer than I expected," he says quietly, with a little smile.

Subject: Mumble mumble
Lagging behind the rest of the group, Shih has taken the time to wedge open the door. He then moves carefully into the fountain room never looking directly at the Thumis priest, if that's what he is. He makes a brief stop by Orun, talking quietly with him then proceeds back towards the entrance to the great hall from which we came. He stops, just barely in sight of the Thumis priest. If anyone is right next to Shih, they might hear him mumbling quietly to himself. Those psychically sensitive know that he's casting some spell.

Subject: Listening.......
Urutlen drops his high alert status and is listening and watching attentively to all that is going on. Urutlen is very certain that we can learn much from the Thumis priest and so he is craning to catch every word.

With a small cry of alarm, the grey-clad man turns towards the fountain, and takes a step forward.

Subject: Cigar is just a cigar ... but what kind?
Looking carefully at Jenge, Shih tries to discern whether he's talking to a man or a ru'un like Katalan. Regardless, Shih's civil. Bowing moderately as to one whose station is high but unclear.

"Honorable Priest of Thumis [Shih pauses for effect and gently cocks his head], who are you and why are you here? Perhaps a better question would be where "here" is? We're a bit lost."

We still don't know where that nexus point took us. I'm hoping this priest can enlighten us. As far as I'm aware, there are no shrines to Thumis under the City of Sarku. Then again, this could be one of their most holy secret shrines [gulp!]. Where and when are we?!

From: Jenge hiVarion [2002-09-24 17:59:30]
Subject: After You

"Oh, well done." The priest visibly relaxes. "Welcome to you, Celebrant of the Feast of Worms. I am grateful." A gracious bow to the Priest of Sarku, and then a gesture that includes all of the strangers within sight.

"Please, allow me to introduce myself. I am Jenge hiVarion, of the Emerald Girdle Clan. I have been blessed to have been given responsibility for the Temple of Thumis in Greggeesa. However, I am here in the lands of the Nenyu as a guest. And you? Were you not seeking me?"

Subject: Quest
"Most honorable Jenge hiVarion, we are indeed seeking answers that one so learned in the deep wisdom possessed by worshippers of your Lord may impart. Are we then in the catacombs of the pigmy folk in Yan Kor?"

From: Dlarumei Ba'ashcha [2002-09-25 13:31:12]
Subject: where???
Dlarumei steps forward in greeting and bows to the priest of Thumis.

"Most Noble Priest of the Lord Thumis, Jenge hiVarion of the Emerald Girdle Clan, I greet you in this strange place and would welcome you to enjoy some of our hospitality at this moment. I can see that you have little supplies with you and I would offer food and drink if you are in need of such as these.

I am Dlarumei Ba'ashcha of the Cloak of the Azure Gems and Priestess of the Dark Prince of the Blue Room, Lord Ksarul and one of those who leads this assemblage on our journey. You are now the second priest that we have come across here in the depths beneath Sarku City. Or at least that is where we were not to long ago. My question to you then, noble one, is, I was under the impression that the city of Greggeesa was in Yan Kor? Is this still true? Is that where we are?"

Dlarumei bows again in a respectful fashion to show that her questions, coming so quickly after a greeting without allowing for a proper response, are not meant to be insulting.

From: Shih hi Nacunya [2002-09-25 14:11:47]
Subject: Oops
"My surprise has dimmed my manners. [Bowing appropriately] I am Shih hi Nacunya of the Domed Tomb Clan. As my companion Dlarumei suggests, priests are popping up everywhere when you least expect it. So far though, all of those meetings have been fortunate." :)

From: Jenge hiVarion [2002-09-25 16:50:28]
Subject: Two and Two

"Honored Guests, (with a deep bow), you flatter me. Of a certainty, I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. We are, of course, less-learned than our ancestors, but we do our best. All must acknowledge the familiarity with the deeps held by those who follow Lord Sarku, and the secrets held by the followers of Lord Ksarul."

"From what you have said, I must surmise that you have been transported in space from from the City of Sarku. I had thought myself in the abode of the Pygmy Folk, not far from Greggeesa. I now propose that we have no reason to conclude that our current location is either of those two locales."

"I must commend and thank you for securing the door through which you entered here. It gives me great relief, as well as providing us with more options than we might have had."

"But please, before we speak further; I would be most grateful if you would share your provender with me, as the esteemable Priestess of the Doomed Prince suggested. For I have been here many weeks with little in the way of supplies, and quite frankly I am growing a bit faint..."

And with this, the priest begins to sway slightly, and sits down where he is.

Subject: Feed him
As quickly as possible, we break out food and water for Jenge making sure he doesn't glut himself. He also casts his highest level heal on Jenge just in case.

"As Jenge hiVarion will need time to recover, I suggest that this would be an opportune time to rest and get our strength back."

Suiting actions to words, Shih has his chef prepare food and lays down to rest and hopefully recover the few spell points that he's used. Clearly, Shih now trusts Orun, Churisan and the other guards to assure the group's safety. Before going to sleep though, he directs his slaves to eat and pack up so that they can travel quickly if need be.

Subject: Motion
As the priest of Thumis sways and seats himself Neshkriuma slips out the door, back into the Great Hall and secures several slaves to prepare something for the their guest. He also takes a quick glance around the Hall to see if anything else has changed from when the party was in there last. All that remain are the slaves and porters, Ssrivan packing things up with his scribe and discussing some details about the symbols, and the Livyani priest who is examining the food and drink on the tables.

The rest of the party is in the smaller room where the fountain and the priest of Thumis were found.

From: Ssrivan hiTlokhar [2002-09-25 19:40:11]
Subject: Farewells to interesting sights
SSrivan has finally gotten the last dregs of attainable information from the murals and directs that his things be packed once more in their travelling configuration. He wanders over to the tables and the Livyani priest to nab a morsel of the obviously succulent viands prepared for us by our unseen hosts. As several of the others have consumed of them without obvious harm, he will select a few interesting tidbits to show honor to our hosts and eat them slowly, washing them down with a flagon of one of the less potentially inebriating drinks placed on the table.

By the time he is finished, the slaves should be finished with their packing (and he will point them to the tables to partake as well--it will save our supplies for future emergencies), so that he can shoo them out of the room and into the chamber with the rest.

From: Chúrisan Sóruna [2002-09-26 09:06:29]
Subject: defense
Churisan watches briefly in frustration as Shih and the other priests settle down for a rest and a meal in this rather indefensible chamber.

Then with a quiet sigh of resignation he and Orun and Neshkriuma quickly confer. They chivvy the last of the servants out of the Great Hall and into the fountain chamber, and set guards at all four entrances (the door to the Great Hall is left ajar). Then he addresses the priests.

"Learned ones, when you have refreshed yourselves, would you tell us if this water is safe to drink? We should replenish our supplies if we can. We have far to go, and it would be wise to move on as quickly as possible."

From: Orun Vu'urtesh [2002-09-26 10:56:59]
Subject: ready, set, go.
Orun, after his conference with Churisan and Nesh, and having set up the southern guards, crosses over to the Priest of Thumis, after he has sat down, and lowering himself to one knee, as not to tower over the seated priest, he inclines his head slightly and softly says.

"Noble Priest of Thumis, I am Orun Vu'urtesh of the Blade Raised High Clan. Temple Guard in Katalal, and Kasi for the legion of the Scarlet Planet of Knives. I would also welcome you and hope that we may be of some service, if the gods allow it. Speaking from strictly a military standpoint, and I know that this will add yet another question to the ever increasing queue lining up before you, but… If you have been here for several weeks, have you scouted out any of these passageways? What is it that is beyond this room? Have you seen or know anything of a Tubway in or around here? I know that these questions are quick and to the point, and soon you will have the nourishment you need to build your strength, but if it is not too much trouble. Would you be so inclined as to answer these questions for me?"

The massive warriors armor creeks and shifts as he sits on the ground before the priest and waits patiently for any response.

Subject: Ready, Steady

The priest in grey nods his head at the officer's words, and answers "It is an honor to meet you, Noble Kasi. I understand your urgency, and your priorities. These travellers are blessed to have their safety in the hands of you and your brethren."

"Briefly and to the point, then, I will say this: I trust not the water in this fountain, nor in the smaller fountain nearby. Their purpose is unclear, and the water in this fountain at least is permeated with enchantment."

"As I mentioned, one passage leads to a smaller fountain. Another leads to a shaft deeper than can be easily explored. And the last forks; one path ascends and is blocked by fallen stone, the other descends gradually and long. I have not followed it to its end."

"If you have the men, I would suggest guarding all entrances. I strongly urge that experimentation be undertaken slowly and carefully. My rash assistants caused their own abrupt demise and my current dislocation."

Jenge accepts a bowl from a servant, and looks to see if the Kasi is satisfied for the moment.

Subject: Food? That's a good idea!
Neshkriuma picks some easily carried victuals and takes them on a short tour clockwise around the cavern, starting at the door to the Great Hall. This will also allow him to converse with the guards, determining their state of readiness and their willingness to venture further into the unknown.
During the circuit, Nesh will be looking carefully for interesting or unusual features of the floor and walls.

Subject: clarification for all...
OOC-For clarification purposes only, the different corridors that Jenge is referring to have been colored as to be less confusing when we speak of them. The picture of the area and the corresponding colored corridors is located in the archives under the heading "CA Beyond the Great Hall"

Because I neglected to put a compass on the map (sorry) I will assume that the RED corridor is the one to the north. It is the one that Jenge referred to as having a smaller fountain at its end.

The BLUE corridor is the one to the west and also the one that forks, where the right fork leads up a staircase and to a ruble pile that blocks any further progress. The corridor to the left of the fork is the one that Jenge has not completed exploring.

The GREEN corridor is the one to the south then, and the one that ends in a shaft that Jenge had not the proper exploration equipment for descending into its depths.

The Red door is to the east and is, at this moment, still being held open by a wedge, placed there by Shih.

We may refer to the corridors by their color or their compass heading, whichever we feel is most appropriate, and less confusing, to us.

I mention this on the public page also for all those who are lurking and following the story, as to not leave them out of the loop and have them wondering where the colors are coming from.

Have fun

Subject: Replys
Orun nods in appreciation for the answers Jenge has supplied and once again returns to one knee before speaking.

"I thank you, both for the information and the kind words, most noble Jenge, and your suggestions are well noted and gratefully accepted. Please enjoy what meager meal that we can offer you at this time," pointing to the bowl Jenge is holding. " The portions may be cold and dry, but they are hearty and will help to revive you soon. Until then, please rest in our company and security, and hesitate not to ask for what you need. If we are in possession of your desires, we will make them available to you. This is no place to be on ones own."

With that the warrior rises to his feet, and once more bowing slightly turns and walks to where Churisan is standing, where they confer about sending some scouts down the corridors to confirm Jenge's findings.

From: Almodhim hi'Harisaya [2002-09-28 10:02:14]
Subject: Introduction
Almodhim has been listening to the priest, and approaches him with reverence. "Noble Priest, I am Almodhim hi'Harisaya, Priestess of Chiteng, one who's debt is to this company. I will put my sword to the test, whenever danger is near, and keep this company from harm. If you should come with us, Learned One, please accept the security of my blade. And if you happen to know the way out of these depths....that would be most welcome too!"

She bows her head in acceptance and welcome and calls to some servants for a bite to eat. She hopes that the company will be moving out of these underground caverns, stays on light alert, but resigned herself to rest and food while a way out is figured on.

Subject: Well Met

The priest of Thumis inclines at the waist, as he is seated. "You do me honor, Priestess Almodhim. I find myself in debt to you all. For so long as our paths are joined, I will find comfort in your sword arm."

Having taking food and drink in moderation, Jenge will now try and sleep. Time enough to discuss the future when he awakens.

Subject: Morning?

Upon resting, the Student of Thumis rises and quietly packs his things. He moves to join any priests or officers who may be up and in discussion.

Jenge bows deeply. "Greetings, and if I may repeat myself, I am most grateful for your assistance. Had you not come along, I fear that it would not have been long before I journeyed on to Teretane."

"I had hoped that the Nenyu would arrange a rescue party, but this seems less likely now that translocation has entered into the picture."

"My goal was to study and learn, at the invitation and with the assistance of the Nenyu. I would ask, if I may be so bold, what has brought you here? I believe I may have heard it said that some of you at least are primarily interested in regaining the surface world? Is this the case?"

"Forgive me if I overstep my bounds."

Subject: not naps too...
Churisan speaks to the priests: "Learned ones, no, please, this is not a safe place to rest. There are too many entrances to defend, and we know from the tracks that others come here. A short break to eat and rest, yes, but let us go a bit further before we take a night's sleep. While you rest, we will look into the passages a bit, to help select our route."

Then he consults again with Orun, Neshkriuma, Urutlen, and Almodhim.

Subject: Nappy time over..
Dlarumei walks up to the priest of Thumis, bows slightly, and says.

"I hope that your short rest was sufficient Noble Jenge, this is a peaceful place and very inviting, but we must press onward. I must agree with you, that unless we have been translocated to Yan Kor, I think it very unlikely that any Nenyu rescue party is on its way here. Our noble assemblage has formed the opinion that we are still under Sarku City only, perhaps deeper or slightly removed from our previous position. As to our goals, noble Priest, we are focused on finding an ancient tubway, which is fabled to lie beneath the city. We were hoping that this door," she motions to the red door that the party entered through, " would lead us to that tubway. In fact, it still might when we are sure which path to take."

"We would be honored if the learned Priest of Thumis would join us in our Journey. You can find us to be most hospitable and enjoyable if you stay. And we can always use the wisdom that springs forth from those who follow Thumis."

With that, the ebony mask Priestess of Ksarul steps back and indicates several slaves that have obviously been assigned to Jenge for his part of the journey. .

From: Game Master [2002-09-30 18:12:59]
Subject: Wanderings
While Jenge rests, and others eat and drink, several of the party members break off and, with a few guards, venture down the various corridors. After an hour or two they are all finally returned to the fountain chamber with news of their findings.

The first group tells that the red corridor (see archives for the map) travels about 300 meters to a dead end. There is a small round chamber there with a few glowing disks on the floor and a small fountain in its center.

The next group reports that the green corridor leads to a shaft after about 600 meters, which seems to travel straight down for a very long time. The air exuding from the shaft is stale, and the shaft itself is oddly, perfectly round.

The blue corridor forks and the party, which took the right fork heads up to, an area blocked by rock. They had traveled up a staircase for about 400 meters till they came to the blockage. The stones were large and it seems that the ground itself has filled some hole that lead to the stairs. Churisan surmises that a mining party must have caused a cave in above this stairs, which caused a chain reaction and finally the stones blocking the stairway upward. There is no hope to remove any of the stones that would give the party access to he surface from that point.

The left fork leads downward, it was reported, but the small band were only instructed to travel for an express period of time and then to return to the fountain room. Nesh reports that towards the end of the inspection, they were able to hear running water, such as what would fall over a cliff to a river, and smell the moisture in the air. They returned because their time had expired and feared that if they did not return when instructed to, that the rest would fear for their loss and form a rescue party.

From: Shih hi Nacunya [2002-10-01 11:05:43]
Subject: Awakened, refreshed and curious
Shih stretches to release the kinks from sleeping on the floor. Hearing the various descriptions of what's down each corridor, he has a number of additional questions:

"1. In the small round chamber with the small fountain and the glowing disks on the floor, what color are they? Such disks may be the means to summon a tubeway car."

2. Regarding the (green corridor), is the perfectly round shaft lined with metal? Clearly this was made with one of the ancient digging machines used to create the tubeways. It's possible that a tubeway control is hidden nearby. Alternately, the floor disks in the small fountain room may summon the tubeway car to this other shaft."

"3. More by way of comment ... as much time as seems to have passed, rivers change course and land changes. While it's possible that the long shaft with the river is our objective, I dread that direction and would choose it last. It's possible that we may have to ford that river or that our destination is underwater."

"For everyone's information, the liquid in this fountain glows with a strange blue purity when examined with POE. Can any of our mages determine its purpose or how it or the fountain might be used?" Shih looks meaningfully at Ssrivan, Dlarumei, Jenge, and the LP.

Subject: What did I see...
Orun chases the hard tack he has been chewing on with a large quaff of heavy rich wine before addressing Shih.

"Noble Shih, my party saw three disks on the floor around the smaller fountain. The fountain was white like this larger one, but only about this large." He hands his drink to an attending slave and holds out his arms like he is hugging an oversized barrel. His hands don't touch and he is about at the limit of his reach.

"The three disks on the floor were evenly distributed around the fountain and it appears that great care was taken to make them exactly the same distance from each other and the fountain. They are strange objects to be sure. Each disk was about this big around." He holds his arms out again as though holding a smaller barrel this time, one where his fingers could touch.

"And each glows with a light blue hue that lights the small chamber in an eerie blue cast. They seem to pulse a bit in their color intensity, but other than that, they seem not to perform any other function that I could tell. I am, however, not a learned as others and have little experience with such things."

Orun, retrieving his glass, then pulls down another deep drink as he reposes against the wall. A slave offers him some more of the dried meat that he looks at for a moment and then accepts.

Subject: Parched
Shih takes a cup and makes a great show of dipping out a small amount of liquid from the magical fountain. He then walks over to Dlarumei and inquires whether she knows the spell alleviation? If she doesn't, Shih asks some of the other mages. Standing next to one of them, Shih takes the calculated risk that nobody would create a fountain like this that was poisonous. Holding a small religious icon in a sack around his neck, Shih prays to Sarku. He then starts to take a sip.

ooc: Obviously, if the liquid smells or tastes bad, he either doesn't drink or spits it out. Is anyone with a magical means of identifying this liquid going to step up?!

Jenge looks apprehensive at Shih's actions. He says "Honorable Priest, while I am willing to use my powers to save you if I can, I cannot say that I recommend your plan of action. Although, since I suppose the darkness of the tomb holds no terror for one of your brethren, still your transformation may not actually be scheduled for today." He smiles tentatively. "Perhaps some preliminary testing, of a less dangerous nature, might be in order?"

From: Shih hi Nacunya [2002-10-02 22:23:23]
Subject: Well ... OK
Shih smiles sardonically:

"As I really don't want to be separated from my spirit soul near such an ornate fountain, perhaps you're right Jenge."

It's apparent from Shih's arched eyebrows and suggestive stares that he is really looking to the worshipers of Thumis, Ksarul or The Horned One of Secrets for some guidance. He clowns around sniffing and looking through the liquid pretending to gain insights into its true purpose.

The Livyani Priest steps forward and looks at Shih with some interest, cocking his head to one side, and then the other. Biting his lip as he contemplates this Priest of Sarku.

"Noble Shih," he says while inclining his head slightly in respect, but keeping his eyes on Shih." It is obvious that you have no fear of the after life, in fact, I would say that you hope to embrace it, but I'm not sure that you would enjoy this journey."

The Livyani Priest points downward where several drops of the water have struck the ground. There are three drops on the edge of the fountain that seem to sit there glowing in a blue flame. There are several other drops that have stuck the hard packed dirt and have created holes that are deep enough so that their deepest points are not able to be seen. It is also obvious that several of the drops have passed through Shih's robes on their way to the ground, as there are several holes just off the cuff of the robe near the floor.

"I would surmise from this example," The Livyani Priest points to the drops, "that this water is was not meant to be consumed. These serving items must have another purpose. If I were you, I would place the water back in the fountain and return the serving item to its resting place till we are more clear about how to use this device. But that is just my humble opinion."

"This is amazing, truly. I had already determined that the water in this fountain has properties similar to those of certain nexus points. But note how much it behaves like an acid! Has it translocated the matter it's encountered? What could the fountain and dippers be made of?"

He becomes more sober, and stands, dusting his knees absently. "So the water isn't for drinking, or for bathing. My suspicion is that it must be combined with something else in order to perform its function."

While some of us stay here to continue examining the fountains, I'm suggesting that another contingent investigates that fork more fully. I normally do not advocate separating in the tsuru'um. For I have also found that to leave ones back in mystery is as wise as asking a Ssu to share a meal with you. Too many possibilities for disaster.

Orun makes a quick bow to Jenge, and baring anything further for the priest of Thumis, he moves to Shih and with a few guards in tow motions for the Priest to join him.

"Noble Shih, if you have no qualm with me taking point in this venture, let us begin as to return quickly with some answers."

After about three hours the small excursion party returns. They take a moment to drink a bit of water and catch their breath before they report out their findings. Taking turns relaying what they saw in a round robin style, the general description is as follows.

"The corridor is quite snake like, as it seems to follow a path cut through the softer rock veins in this underground. There are obviously wider parts, as well as, more narrow areas, but the group as a whole would have no problem advancing through the corridor. The problem comes at the end of the corridor, which seems to just end on the edge of a large cliff. The corridor empties itself into an extremely large cavern, very high and very wide. Where the corridor comes in is almost at the ceiling level for the cavern, where a conservative estimate would place its lip 500 meter above the cavern floor. The cavern floor is a veritable hodgepodge of differently landscaped areas. From large boulders directly under the corridors exit to a grassy area with several different verities of trees, to a large sandy area and after that a brown flat area with a small hut type building directly placed in its center. On the side farthest from the ledge is a large clear tube, or pipe, which seems almost over grown with jungle type vegetation. There is a dim white/blue light, which emanates from within the tube and something silver in color lies within. There seems to be a small doorway on the side facing the water and a small terrace in front of that doorway. The water, which takes up 2/3rds of the floor space available, is a deep blue-green fed constantly by a large waterfall that starts just to the right of the corridors end and about 200 meters lower. The air is moist and heavy and marked with the scent of wondrous flowers and herbs wafting up to greet you. As the party turned to leave, it was Urutlen's eye that caught the light blue flash from within the hut. He found that if you turned your head just right so your vision lined up with a space in the siding of the wall, you could see a light blue glow in the hut. It is reported that the cliff is impossible to climb in any direction, at least for most."

The trip back was quick and uneventful as the small party apparently jogged at a quick pace for the entire return journey.

But..." and here the scholar in grey gets most animated, "These fountains have remained here for centuries, their potent liquids preserved and waiting. They require no mighty sorceror, and this is fortunate as I don't believe we have brought one." He chuckles at this point, then makes a bow to the room. "I most humbly apologize for any slight towards our Most Learned and Wise Companions. I only make my statement based on the notion that this group is attempting to find its way out of here. That being the case, it has no mighty sorceror to open a nexus point. Alas."

Now warming to his subject, Jenge resumes his lecture. "Oh Valiant Leader of Men, you have come to the quick of the matter, and it is one close to my heart. Our ancestors' talents lay in areas different from ours, and there are many ways to satisfy a particular need. This alchemy that appears so awkward to us may have been the height of efficiency for the circumstances. I would add to your conjecture that what we know of the ancients also dictates that there would be some sort of ceremony or dogma ritual to signify importance or mystify certain events. The Great Hall that we came through was such a place that still holds many mysteries that we do not yet comprehend. Therefore, I see no reason why this chamber would not be of similar ilk and desire ritual satisfaction to complete a simple task. Perhaps only the worthy ones, who could carry the burden of the dipper full of liquid, would enjoy the benefit that the other fountain would supply."

Dlarumei then pauses, realizing that she has just jumped into a conversation uninvited.

And I am most assured that with the addition of yourself, Noble Jenge, and the wisdom that Thumis has blessed you with, we can have nothing but good favor throughout this venture."

"Perhaps, we should draw three dippers of the liquid and take them to the fountain at the end of that corridor." Dlarumei points to the northern entrance. "Bring a slave or two and a few "expendable" items for the purposes of discovering the secrets that are locked within that room, as Deshnah has suggested, and see if we can regain this partys momentum."

If no one objects, Dlarumei crosses over to the fountain and lifts a dipper from its resting place. She then submerges it slowly into the fountains treasure and pulls it up and out, allowing time for a few drops to escape from the dippers bottom back to the fountain. Shih and his slaves return up the "green corridor" to the large fountain area and then proceed down the corridor towards the smaller fountain where he expects to soon see an pyrotechnic light show. :) When he arrives, he shares a bit more information about what he's seen:

"I thought to determine whether a tubeway car might ascend up the circular corridor. What I found though is a bit puzzling, but probably a puzzle for another time."

"The lip of the hole is worn due to things rubbing against it over a prolonged period of time. It is worn smooth and has more of a wear pattern in the middle (at a point) yet still shows signs of extreme wear for about a 5' segment facing towards the hallway down which I came."

"About 10' back, the corridor changes from an easterly direction to a northerly direction. Examining the wall in that area, I found, imbedded in the rock wall, a steel plate with an iron ring attached to it. It is rusted over and almost unnoticeable when just passing in the dimly lit corridor."

"Studying it for a time, I determined from its angle and the way it is set into the wall that a rope or cable would have been pulled through this ring or a pulley would have been attached to it to gain leverage advantage for lowering or raising something that is down in the hole. The edge of the hole is worn therefore, to prevent the rope from fraying and breaking. It was most likely originally cut that way and over much use the ropes used have worn it away even further. Not the best method for elevating an object from below. Perhaps there was a tripod of sorts, made of wood or something, that has long since collapsed and fallen into the pit. Many conjectures to be had I'm sure, but it is painfully apparent that there are no devices to aid with the levitation of anything that would be down below. It was a completely manual/labor intensive event."

"So, which of our worshipers of Vimuhla have you convinced to perform whatever experiment you contemplate? I can think of no more lan or holy act for such a one than to make a mistake with that liquid!" =)

Shih watches everything with great interest. POE is probably still working.

Subject: Now, Class...
Jenge inspects the fountain again, then whirls about abruptly.

"I postulate that three people must stand on the three disks. Each has a ladle. They must act in concert. Beyond this, my theory degenerates into supposition."

"If one poured the contents of the other fountain into this one, then the resident liquid would become tainted over time and its function would be impaired. Unless somehow, the foreign liquid which we've brought is consumed in the reaction."

"I believe the end result of our actions would be to open a nexus point. The purpose may be to summon a creature, to open a view of another location, or to create a portal through which the celebrants might then travel. I suspect that the nexus point forms over this fountain."

"As for other possibilities: Primus, it seems unlikely that one should come into direct contact with the liquid, as our earlier experiment demonstrated. Secundus, it seems that both liquids must be involved, otherwise why the ladles for moving small samples? Thus my conclusion that both liquids be combined. Judging by the placement of the disks, and the slight wear on their surfaces, I intuit their purpose as pediments."

Picturing the priest of Thumis lecturing his class is all too easy at this point. He looks expectantly at you all, then says "Now, please use logic or precedent to refute my postulate."

"I believe that you have hit upon something." Dlarumei says with a slight tickle of humor in her voice, as she listens to Jenge's explanations.

"I too get the feeling that there is ceremony involved in this entire action. That the mixing of the liquids brings forth a reaction of some sort. The nexus point that you mentioned or a similar consequence would seem to be the logical conclusion. My question would be, is it only those who are standing upon the disks that would be involved in the result or would it be all who stand within the walls of this bell shaped room? Unfortunately, I can see only one way in which to find out. We would need three volunteers, would we not?"

Shih's sardonic demeanor drops, addressing the individuals in this room seriously:

"Companions, I see no reason to conclude that these fountains were created by other than those who created the elaborate room with the pedestals from which we came. Our noble Ssrivan had the wonderful observation that pageantry was clearly important to these people. The elaborateness of these fountains is a point in my argument. I could easily envision an elaborate ceremony to open the nexus at these fountains for the group, an experience we've just had only too recently. In my opinion, the nexus would open and transport all those in this room. After all, there's little pageantry in arriving at a destination without an entourage."

"Of greater concern though is where and whether that destination has any bearing on why we're here."

Shih now focuses on Jenge smiling slightly to soften his words:

"Jenge, you're an astute observer and by now must have some thoughts about how lost we are. We're an ususual assemblage. :) Suffice to say that we have all taken secret oaths to complete a task. The difficult position we find ourselves in is what to do with you. Your knowledge could be quite useful to us. However, your ongoing presence would require a similar oath that would bind you as surely as you are bound to your noble clan. You must decide and make that decision known to our leaders."

"For my part, since there doesn't seem to be another way to get down to the tubeway, I'm willing to try this fountain nexus."

Most learned mages... if I may interject a thought? We should prepare all who are near to this potential nexus with some possible outcomes and actions they should take. I believe we may wish to attempt this transfer in at least two groups. This will allow us not to crowd the room, possibly disturbing the attempt. And it may allow a second group to survive and learn from any "unfortunate rashness".

I would feel a little more secure with explanations before experimentations.

And should we not at least prepare some pageantry for our potential entry to the afterlife?

"In this most holy time to my Lord Sarku, it is good to hear a devout worshipper of Hru'u speak well of the pageantry associated with death. However, this path to the afterlife may not proceed according to the dictates of The Worm Lord."

"Extending your idea noble Neshkriuma, I would argue that only 3 should attempt this experiment at first to limit the risk to the party. When the nexus point is opened, I hope that some of our more learned mages can use magic to determine the destination so that we may better judge the risk. The three that we send must be able to defend themselves well against all manner of attacks. Slaves cannot be used. I am reasonably capable, though certain that some of our companions have abilities that drawf my own. Still, I would volunteer to be one of the first through."

We could very well lose precious party menbers to who knows what or where. We may never see or hear from them again. The three that attempt this could be jumping headlong into great peril. We should put all of our heads together and come up with a less risky plan. I will of course follow the party where ever it may lead me, but I have grown fond of this party as a whole and do not wish to break it up."

Dlarumei speak from behind her mask in a contemplative tone.

"Hum, yes,… three persons should be all that we start with. I agree with the noble worshiper of the worm lord, and his rational seems sound as well. Though I would believe that this system is designed only to accommodate three individuals at once. This chamber is too small to house a host of travelers. I also remember there being quite a large number of dippers hanging around the other fountain, which would indicate to me that a rather long line of travelers could form in order to allow larger groups to pass with relative timeliness.

As to those who go on before, so to speak," there is a slight hint of humor in her voice as Dlarumei finds her pun amusing. "I would suggest that Urutlen, Shih and myself be the first to make this trip. Urutlen has a keen eye and good sense impending danger, as he has justly proven but his last comments. And I mean him no disrespect but I feel that this is truly the way we need to use. Shih and I possess abilities and knowledge that would be useful to defend and document the other side of the nexus point when we arrive. I would also suppose, and please forgive me Jenge if I assume too much, that you have studied nexus points and perhaps even have a method of discovering where this point leads. I know that those who follow Thumis often have great understanding in this particular area. That is why I would have you stay here along with Neshkriuma who has show an excellent ability to defend this spot against what might come in this direction once the point is opened. I am sure that with Almodhim at his side a formidable barrier will be made just in case."

She then turn to Deshnah who is standing on one of the disks, "I truly applaud your courage Deshnah, and your willingness to venture with the first ranks, however, Your skills as a shaman and a healer would be far better served on this end of the point. I mean you no offence by this choice and hope that you understand my reasons."

If you have some other objective, some need that draws you together, I may or may not be interested; should you be offering. But, and I mean no disrespect, any oath I might choose to give cannot compare with those that bind me to clan or temple. Perhaps that comment was merely a figure of speech."

"As to the study of nexus points and interplanar travel, I am not a master of the subject. I know somewhat, and could perhaps recognize certain destinations, and have some small talents with manipulation. But I regret that I do not fit your needs ideally. I must also confess that I cannot speak over great distances. You must temper your decisions with these facts."

"But these fountains are a means of travel, should we but learn their secrets. I am sure of this much. I believe that upon activation, a portal will open, and all who choose to may file through it. If, however, your secret goals require a tubecar, then your choice is clear. At this time, I have no preference between the two, although I am quite fascinated by these fountains. In my opinion, the distance is too great and most here are not sufficiently skilled. I'm afraid that this fountain nexus is our best bet."

"As an alternative, I wouldn't be averse to lowering someone ... even me ... on a rope down the "green corridor" to see what is in the water below. What's there might be useful and I'm guessing that we have sufficient people to pull whatever it is up, assuming that I can find something to attach a rope to. Just a thought. Why are we able to expect those transported to arrive near the tubeway?

If we can expect this, should not one of us (with excellent vision) watch from the doorway to see if they arrive?

If we are all in this together, should we not tell the learned Jenge what we seek? He may know of it, it may be close at hand, or the tubeway car may only be our means of escape.

Finally, most learned Jenge: is there even a small clue about your former companions, so unfortunately rash?

I will stay in contact with the three of you through whomever you designate or with all three at once, if you prefer. The choice is yours. And being somewhat learned in Nexus points I must agree that this point is an activation point to a place where we can continue the journey. I would surmise, due to the explanation of the large chamber that you visited and the blue glow that came from the hut there, that your destination is that building. If all this were set up for travelers, then it would only be logical that this point leads to the next station where one can journey on. Though I doubt that any of you will be able to return to this place through this nexus point, as all indicators seem to lead me to believe that everything is set up for a one way trip. I will help with all my being to insure that your journey is eventful and aide you if there is trouble."

He then sits on the floor in the hallway leading to the small chamber and, drawing a strange symbol in the dirt, starts to meditate. Or at least something that looks like meditation.

It was Urutlen who first noticed the warms emanating from the disk that he was standing on. Before being handed the dipper from the slave next to him, he was aware that the disk grew warmer. Trying to step off of the disk was impossible, he reported to Dlarumei and Shih, and they too found that their feet were, somehow, stuck to the disks and that Shih's was also becoming warmer. Dlarumei felt no warming sensation in her feet. Jenge announced a color change in the disks. While Dlarumei's had remained blue the disks of Shih and Urutlen had changed to red. Shih taking the dipper quickly from his slave, to get things started before it got too hot, noticed that upon holding the dipper of liquid his disk change back to blue and cooled off considerably. Urutlen quickly followed suit and found the very relief that Shih has acquired. "Interesting safety device." Urutlen was heard muttering to himself.

The three then began to pour from their dippers, slow and steady, and with as much pageantry as could be mustered. The two following Dlarumei's lead and her motions to the letter. Once the liquid had been emptied into the fountain, all those present, as it shown up out of the smaller fountain, could see a bright blue glow. Its counterpart in the main room also began to glow a bright blue and filled that room with a blue cast of light.

Dlarumei then leaned forward to place her dipper on the, obviously placed, hook in the center of the small fountain. The other two following her every move in perfect, slow unison. All three placed their dippers into the hooks, and the instant the dippers came in contact with the fountain a connection of fountain, to dipper, through being and disk was made. Three brilliant blue flashes, painful to observe, and an electric CRACK filled the air, and the three were gone. The room was quiet save for the gasps of a few slaves. The lights were once again only dim blue glows of the three disks. Neither the liquid nor the dippers remained in the fountain. All was still.

Back at the larger fountain, those there observed a dimming effect of the lights intensity and then calm, just as it had been when the party first entered the room. It was Ssrivan who first noticed that all the dippers were intact around the fountain. The three that had been taken were now returned. It would be a few moment before the slave, who was running with the news of the small fountains events, would appear in the larger room to inform those there of the happenings.
