From: Deshnah [2003-05-19 12:22:06]
Subject: Returning from his trance
As other party members hurridly leave the Car, one accidently bumps Desh.

Almost as if by magic, Desh slowly appears to return to the here and now. Steping through a door from another reality so to speak. Gently he shake his head and steps off, and away from the train.

To Shih, (and those in hearing) "Friend, many people help others and receive gifts in return. My 'adopted' clan was greatful for some service I gave them - when we have a better moment I will happily share some of my history with you. If you grovel suitably I may even try and explain more about Orb's as my tribe understand them"

Then he turns and motions to the second carriage, " Please stand clear so I can assist" Desh closes his eyes and begins to chant.....

From: Shih Nacunya [2003-05-19 14:24:52]
Subject: Grovel?!!!
As a member of a very high clan, Shih looks at the shaman and smiles at his jest.

OOC: As I understand it, it would take an Imperial edict to make someone a member of a very high clan. A fortune in inducements would not be sufficient. While Shih can't conceive of a service great enough to raise someone of low status into one of those most noble, something extraordinary must have occurred. Deshnah's history MUST be interesting. :)

From: Game Master [2003-05-19 15:44:06]
Subject: Gravel?
OOC- Yes, and though it might be impossible for Shih to conceive such a great gift, there is it! With all the symbols and proper documentation to boot. Therefore, just because it is inconceivable, does not make it any less true. Think to the princess bride for inconceivable references. :-)
Have fun

Subject: high clans and missed demeanors
ooc: if the Tsolyani clans information applies (and we seem to be using it fully, anachronism not withstanding), then Jade Diadem is an old and powerful clan of mostly Dlamelish/Hrihayal worshippers. Worshippers of the Green-Eyed Ladies are known for their indulgence in personal desires and whims. It might take an Imperial edict to make an outsider a clan member, or it might just take a whimsical and self-indulgent senior clan member. Even the clan that rules the Empire has low lineage members not far removed from peasantry. Why not an unusual outsider with, ah, remarkable skills and gifts? It would also ease the process if the outsider were of high status in his own country. Perhaps Deshnah is something of a barbarian prince?

Subject: Gravel - would someone be digging himself a hole?
Desh, completes his ritual and appears to prepare to cast a spell.

"Stand back from the rear carriage - unless you want to come to a 'sticky' end so to speak." With which he begins the final movements in his casting...

Desh can also catch Shih in his view and returns the smile - its half way between the kind of smile which makes you check you still have all your ribs intact, and one which suggests you may well want to put that old shovel down....

Subject: Spiderman!!!
Now that we're out of the super-energized area, Shih is curious about whether Deshnah's web is still of sufficient strength to secure these tubeway cars. He watches with interest.

From: Game Master [2003-05-21 16:37:27]
Subject: Chew Chew...(joke, okay?)
With the ever-watchful eye of Shih upon him, Deshnah exudes a sticky white substance from his hands and directs to various spots within the tubway. From one wall to the other, from high to low he casts his web, blocking off the entire tunnel behind the slipping train cars.

It appears that the lack of weight in the rear car has also helped to elevate the situation as the whole trains starts moving forward. Most people take a few large steps back, up against the wall, as the second car jumps and squeals its way back into and upright position. You can feel the hair on you arms and head start to tingle as the static electricity in the air intensifies, and then, a bolt of purple/blue lightning jumps forward again. With an ear shattering crackle it vaporizes another large stone in the Dark Sphere"s path. Many duck down low and huddle together against the wall as the train slowly advances up the tunnel and away from the party. Orun and Ssrivan jump from the moving car right after the lightning bolt and rush back to where the party sits, there "you first, no you first" game coming to a abrupt end.

You make strong notes as to how much the tubway cars had shielded you from the noise and smells of the tunnel as the Sphere shoots out another destructive blow, which makes every slave cower and every porter wince. The tubway cars continue on up the incline and around the ever-turning corner of the tunnel, noisily chattering and blasting its way forward.

With the train 150 to 200 meters up the tunnel, it is Shih who openly surmises that there is something not functioning well with the cars, as he notes that the noises coming from the second car, he has never heard before. Too much grinding and rubbing for a vehicle that should run smoothly upon its track. His words apparently bring comfort to the slaves and porters, or perhaps it is the fact that someone feels comfortable enough to stand erect and voice a thoughtful opinion that relaxes them, but either way the slaves busily gather up the items strewn about in the hasty disembarkment and the porter assemble the gear for the nobles.

From: Shih Nacunya [2003-05-21 17:30:44]
Subject: ZUG ZUG!!!
Shih is absolutely incredulous that the car took off with the door open. Where are the safety mechanisms to prevent this from happening? Where is the repair tubeway car to come fix ours?

"Given the sound the second car was making, it could still let loose and descend. As we walk, please stay to the side so that the car doesn't run you over as it goes past."

After a bit of GM induced thought:

"The tubeway cars were not moving under their own power. That's why they took off. The cars did recognize a serious threat and may still. That's why we were invited to abandom them with open door. That black sphere has an agenda of its own. It's a basic, though very powerful ru'un."

Turning his thoughts to their current circumstance, Shih continues.

"As a best-case scenario, we ascend a few tsan and end up at a tubeway stop. Alternately, we could be thousands of tsan from our destination without sufficient food and water. And, as people begin dying of thirst, I can raise them so that some of us are assured of completing our quest. Things clearly could be worse."

Shih's smile and small laugh let everyone know he's joking.

"Seriously though, either Dlarumei or our Livyani Priest could summon a Traveler of the Far Isles to backtrack or take us out. My biggest concern is the security mechanisms that that car could automatically bypass that we will have to contend with. It could pass through one or more secret doors that we easily could not see. We should move very quickly to see if we can catch up to that car."

Shih directs his slaves to quickly gather up their gear and prepare to travel. He also orders them onto short rations and water consumption to make their supplies last as long as possible. When everyone's ready, he sets out.

Subject: Wo sind die Scheiss Zuge gegangen?
Orun snaps his fingers, and that, with a nod brings two of the guards to him. After a quick confab with the two, they take off running up the tunnel after the tubway cars.

"The Tubway cars are not traveling all that fast," he exclaims to the party. "But, as Noble Shih most correctly pointed out, it would be a shame to lose track of them if they were to take an alternate rout at some point. So, the two guards should have little trouble catching up with, and staying with the tubway cars. I find myself agreeing with Noble Shih twice in the same moment and suggest, as he has, that we get moving at once. This is no place to stand around. I would, however, suggest that we take to the inside of the turn and advance up against that wall." He points across the track to the opposite wall in the tunnel. "If the train does fail and come speeding back down the track, I would think that the force of the train would lean outward and we would be much safer on the inside of the circle of this incline."

With that, he tentatively taps the solid single track with the butt end of his spear before stepping upon it and then hopping off the other side to cautiously walk to the inside wall.

"No doubt Shih would prefer me in front of him for the time being" Says Desh, as he hops over the track towards the inside of wall.

He leans against the wall allowing his Jade Diadem clan pin to glint in the flickering torch light....

Subject: One loose end
Since Deshnah has conveniently positioned himself close enough to talk, Shih has a question or two.

"Noble Deshnah, what do you know about the spheres and, specifically, the Emerald Sphere? Also, what magnificent service did you render the Jade Diadem so that they embraced you as one of their own? It must be a good story and a good story while we walk would be most welcome."

Carefully mincing his way across the rail, the Priest of Thumis attempts to avoid touching anything resembling a mechanism. He takes the inside wall of the tunnel, and hurries upwards after the train. He does not draw ahead of the leaders of the group, and he keeps scanning the whole of the area so as to remain as aware of events as possible.

Subject: Yo E Oh, Ya Oh oh.
Soon the entire party seems to pour over the track and, like a wave washing itself against the beach, the slaves and porters rush up against the inside wall. As they approach the wall, the various noble members thin themselves out so that the group is only about one person thick at any one point. Orun and Jenge, along with several others quicken the pace to try and bridge the gap between the party and the two guards following the train. Dlarumei, along with the Livyani Priest and several other nobles and the majority of the guard, remain with the slaves and porters to protect them and get them up and running. It isn't long before the entire party is moving along at a fairly quick pace, up the incline, after the train.

The party, at this point, has separated itself into three groups. The two guards running immediately after the train, the Orun/ Jenge group and the final group lead by Dlarumei, all heading forward as fast as is possible with regards to which group they happen to be in. Throughout this set up in positioning one can see that messengers have been sent and are returning to each group as a means of binding the three groups together over the distance that is being created.

The floor is of hard, cut stone that is flat and smooth to the touch. There are divots and larger craters as the party advances, attributed to cave ins and the like that the dark sphere has vaporized on its trek upward. The further the party travels the more frequent these indentations become.

"Ah noble colleague! He begins with a bow lower than might be necessary but no longer as log as one from a non Clan Shamen.
Continuing with a far more welcoming grin than he has used for quite some time " As all here no doubt confer, the routes and rites for joining a clan are many and often shrouded in ceremony. Although a late member of my Clan and sometimes confused about the entire process, I assume the challenges I met and the not insignificant number of deaths along the way is quite normal in many other clans....!"

With increased sincerity Desh then turns to the second point "An Orb or Sphere is a hard subject to master, but suffice to say as a start that they require 'special handling', careful use and should never be relied upon to treat all masters as equals."

"Shall we proceed?" As Desh continues along the climb, leaving Shih to wonder whether he offers to continue walking or the discussion.

The jog uphill continues for almost an hour, the tunnel floor almost a foreign surface as it is pitted almost entirely over every square inch. Your only reprieve has been that the Dark Sphere has been so busy that it has slowed quite a bit, and this has allowed all three of the parties to join together and to slow the pace a bit. Always keeping the end of the last car of the tubway train in sight, the party follows with the anticipation that this will soon be over, but they remain far enough away that the quick, lethal bolts and sharp, explosive cracks of stone vaporizing remain around the bend and far less painful to the senses.

The entire party does, however, wince and drop down low as the Sphere creates its finally. The sound of one long sustained bolt after another ring strong and loud in the tunnel, and though the Dark Sphere itself is out of view light reflections are cast backwards down the tunnel and dancing lights indicate a tremendous hail of vaporizing beams.

Then, a mighty rumble is, not only heard but also felt, and large amounts of chocking dust mushroom its way down past the party. Save for a few individuals actually chocking on the dust, there is absolute silence. No more ear piercing sounds of stone being vaporized. No more scraping of metal being drug against stone as the trains' second car advanced up the tunnel. No more anything.

Once the party stands and a few begin to move forward, they come across the tail end of the train. While the second car is free, the Dark Sphere and half of the first car are buried beneath tons of stone. Through the clearing dust cloud there is natural light beaming in from above the cave in. It appears that the tunnel winds around and around in a corkscrew pattern and that layers of stone between the tunnels has become very thin at this level. It is surmised, by some of you, that the Dark Sphere must have vaporized enough stone overhead to cause the tunnel from above to collapse and burry the sphere and lead car. It would appear that the Dark Sphere is no longer able to function as no one has heard a sound for under the rock for some time.

Above the cars, it is possible to clime the rock to the top, and after several scouts return with news that there seems to be an end station just up the cave in and about 300 meters further along the higher tunnel the party prepares to move again. The scouts warn, however, that the going will be slow and tough. Many large stones to get around and narrow spaces to squeeze through, but you are also insured that the end station is there, intact and seems easy to secure as a place to rest and eat. Something that the party has not done seriously for quite some time.

Churisan dropped to the ground when the shock of the final blast hit, and stayed down as the wave of rock dust rolled over the group. In the dusty dimness he stayed still and the silence stretched on for long moments. Then he was up again, dodging forward. As he moved he cursed and muttered at the guards ("Come on you belly-crawling turds...get up you...come on sons of Serqu, move before they hit us again") hauling them to their feet and literally driving them forward past the cars and onto the rockfall. He soon disappeared into the darkness with a few guards following.

You see Orun's face change from dust-covered annoyance to curious reflection as Churisan mentions sons of Serqu. Churisan's ending the line with "move before they hit us again" seems to set some cogs spinning in the large warriors mind. After a moments pause in reflection, Orun cries out in his best Kasi voice,

"MOVE!
YOUR TIRRIKAMU HAS GIVEN YOU AN ORDER!
DO NOT HESITATE!
MOVE!"

He unsheathes his sword and slaps a very surprised and bewildered porter on the rear with the flat of the blade, accentuating the seriousness of his words. Quickly, the rest of the porters and slaves scurry to fall into place and follow Churisan and several guards up, over the rubble.

"Lead them upward, Tirrikamu Churisan, I shall secure the rear!"

After shouting this out to Churisan, Orun moves to where Neshkriuma is pushing other guards and porters and slaves forward and speaks to him quietly and into his ear.

While speaking with Jenge Orun watches as Churisan climbs the rubble out of the caved-in tunnel section and as soon as he crests the top, Orun breaks from his conversation and bolts for the opening.

Slipping his sword back into its resting place on his back, he hops, quite gracefully for as large as he is, up one stone and off to another. His massive shoulder coming into play as he effortlessly lifts himself over each obstacle. He breezes past the entire party who are already on their way up, pass almost over the top of Deshnah, and makes it to the top just as the last guard of Churisan's forward party scrambles over the lip. As Orun slips over the lip with the advanced party he just joined, the slave holding the rest of his equipment is heard letting out a large sigh, and hefting the equipment starts his difficult journey. ˇ

The grey-clad priest continues wiping his face as Orun comes up and speaks to him. He looks a little puzzled, and more so as Orun rushes off. He stares after the man for a moment, until Deshnah comes over and offers to help.

"Why yes, my friend, your assistance would be appreciated. Please join me." He inclines his head slightly to Deshnah, then looks to the rear, and begins moving quickly and decisively in that direction. "Come, come," he calls out loudly to those furthest back. "We must leave here at once! It is not safe!" Once he has reached the rearmost position, he turns to Deshnah once again.

"Good sir, can you please assist me in getting these folks moving up and out with haste?" He turns again to face the crew, and claps his hands peremptorily for attention. "Now! You two, stop fiddling with that parcel! Just pick it up and move! And you, help him adjust that on his back. Good."

"Good Deshnah, if you have this in hand I must address the Worm Priest. One moment, and I shall return."

Jenge now moves off to speak to Shih and his undead.

Subject: Once more out of the breach dear friends
Having completed his instructions to his undead, Shih and his slaves turn to see Jenge descending back into the darkness. The four of them are positioned before the nine undead staring with lifeless eyes at the Thumis priest.

"Noble Thumis priest, this is as far as my Lord's undead may go without being destroyed. Though we could use their strength, their path remains in the dark while we living ascend into the light. Our troop must now be more selective about what we continue to carry. Unfortunately, if those above choose unwisely, I cannot safely raise them to Sarku's glory."

Shih takes a moment to wipe off his death mask paint from his face and hands. A better job of cleaning must wait. With that, he directs his slaves to gather their belongings and ascend.

As the party moves up the pile of ruble, some quickly and others rather slowly with all their various packs and equipment, it becomes apparent how unstable some of the fallen stone is. With a crash and the terrible sound of snapping equipment and bones, three of the slaves bringing up some of the cooking equipment create a small, yet lethal rock fall.

Jenge and Shih, being at the base of this tumbling stone, react quickly and move to assist where they can. Their unfortunate findings are two crushed slaves and on mangled very badly. The rest of the party is pushed onward by Deshnah and Hrissu, who begins a new song. Whether it is a dirge for the dead or an inspiration for climbing, no one knows, but it seems to help with the job of pressing onward.

Urutlen, after cresting the lip, sends over several ropes for people to use for the climb. While Almodhim can smell the fresh air and bolts after those who have gone ahead. Her actions speaking volumes about how she feels about being under ground, but still, she remains alert and intensely prepared to defend, her mind not wavering from the moment. Dlarumei and the Livyani Priest bringing up the rear of the climbing slaves and porters, pause during the small avalanche, but seeing the other priests taking care of the situation continue to press up the incline.

"Thank you for my life Livyani Priest. I'm surprised that I would be that clumsy. We're all exhausted. As you no doubt know, you and the death in the rear tubeway car were topics of heated conversation during out trip. When we can pause, I know we'd all be interested in your perspective on why we're all not going to take the high ride when we return."

Once you reach the top of the rubble pile, you can continue on up the track for about 100 meters and then the track ends at a wall. Facing the wall where the track ends, on your left is another wall and on your right is the loading area. It is raise about 6 feet up so passengers could easily step across from the train cars without raising a leg. This landing spreads out into a room of cold gray stone, some of it built out of stone and some of it cut out of the earth itself. The wall directly across from the landing, as if you walked straight out of the train, has narrow windows, maybe 5 or 6 inches wide and 7 or 8 feet tall. There are at least 15 of them pressed in the wall and when you peer out them you can see that you are very high up inside a mountain, and that the windows, and the room you're in, hang out over a cliff. You can also see the inland sea off in the near distance. From the suns position, you can tell that it is early morning and the smell of fresh air pushing its way in through the window is sweet and extremely welcome. When facing the windows you can see an open doorway to your right that leads to a hallway traveling on down along side the cliff as well. Streams of light stripe the back wall of the hallway where similarly shaped windows let in the morning light. Just past the doorway, and heading down the hall quickly, is Churisan, leading half the guard, Orun and Nesh, with Urutlen and Almodhim starting after them. Little by little the porters and slaves clamor into the end station and grab glimpse of the morning sun, their disposition seems to change a bit as they drink in the fresh air and sit to rest at Deshnah's request. Hrissu continues to sing a variety of well known songs to uplift those sitting to rest, as he direct porters and slaves to various places, out of the way of traffic.

Shih, along with several slaves and the Livyani Priest, move the one injured porter and work on getting him up and out of the caved in area so that some healing attentions can be used on him.

Ssrivan, waiting for the majority of climber to be up and over the lip before he starts his climb is still surveying the tubway cars, even in their, less than perfect, condition and continually dictates to his nurse, now scribe.

If all goes well, the entire party should be able to be in the end station within five minutes.

Churisan has increased his speed as he heads off down the hallway. He is followed by Orun who is gaining position up the ranks of the following guards, Nesh how is just about eight feet behind him and Urutlen and Almodhim are running at break-neck speed to catch up. Urutlen, in a surprisingly quick and agile move, slams himself up against the inside wall and draws and notches an arrow. He takes a moment sighting down the shaft and lets it fly down the hallway.

Deshnah still calming the slaves and porters along with Hrissu sets up a small fire ring and attempts to create a fire. The Livyani Priest and Shih have brought the injured slave to the top of the rock pile with the assistance of Shih's slaves and are speaking at length on some topic. Ssrivan remains behind still dictating notes to his scribe on the tubway cars and this tunnels. Dlarumei stands motionless at the end station, obviously concentrating on something.

If he can catch up to Orun and Dlarumei, Shih has the following to say:

"My noble companions, I for one am in need of rest, food and water. The magic we have expended and the slaves we have lost argue for reordering our packs so that we are certain to take the items we must have to succeed."

Once again, I offer all of you a look at the whole picture though you may personally be in an area in which you may do nothing or say nothing. This just offers you an opportunity to keep up on the story and saves us time on the other end of catching up.

At this moment:
Ssrivan is still in the hole next to the burried tubway cars, Shih, Deshnah, Hrissu, Dlarumei and the LP are in the end station attending to various duties along with all the slaves, porters and 5 guards. Urutlin has just shot off an arrow down the hallway that Churisan is running pell-mell down, leading the rest of the guard. Almodhim has just sprung past Urutlin and is gaining quickly on the Churisan lead aspect about 30 yards ahead of her. Nesh is rushing with the guard and is slowly working his way up to the front ranks where Orun has already arrived. There are three areas here, and none of these areas are close enough ot ineract. So please post based on your area and the things that you can do based on the area that you are in.

The arrow launched down the hallway was a solid shaft with a blunt end that sailed true to its target. Churisan only missed the full force of its impact because the shaft glanced off of his sholder armor before striking him in the back of the head. The blow was still sharp enough to daze him for a few seconds and bring him to skidding on his knees momentarily before he bounced up, shook off the fog and signaled the group to advance again. Orun, now just feet away from Churisan, says noting to him and contiues on as do the rest of the guard, following Churisan down the hall.

Almodhim's speed is remarkable as she forces herself headlong down the hall, in an effort to catchup with the Orun, Nesh and the guard. Her sword drawn and her eyes glazed over with desire, she gains ground quickly and will be with the group in a matter of moments.

Shih and the LP are tending to the fallen slave as Deshnah starts brewing up tea. Dlarumei is concentrating on something and Hrissu is still calming nervious slaves and porters with lovely lilting melodies.

The struggle that Churisan puts up is far greater than either Orun or Nesh had anticipated. Churisan did not mention that he had special training and yet his attempts to free himself are unique and almost successful on several occasions. With Churisan, somewhat in their grasp the two start walking the struggling man back towards the end-station.

Without a warning, and as quick as a bolt from any crossbow, a flash of bronze slides in through one of the windows next to Churisan and slices a deep gash in Oruns right forearm. The massive warrior of Karakan grits his teeth as blood sprays across Churisan's tunic and he feels his arm lose its grasp. Churisan is able to take advantage of the situation, and with a violent spinning twist he drops to the floor, Nesh keeping hold of one ankle as Churisan tries to kick himself free.

The flying bronze disk bounces off of several surfaces and redirects its flight towards Nesh. The battle mage ducks and twists to try and avoid the attack launched at him, and he is partially successful. Letting Churisan's foot drop, Nesh skillfully evades the disk and it passes between his arm and upper leg. It was the ricochet off the wall next to him that caught him off balance. The disk hit the wall and flew straight for Nesh's head, but was only able to shave a nice chunk of his shoulder as Nesh spun and somehow pulled his helmet off, and using it as a mallet, backhanded the disk down the hall about eight meters. The rest of the guard in that area, along with Almodhim and Urutlen have weapons drawn and eyes wide open.

At the end-station Deshnah hands Shih a small wrapped object along with some of the tea that he has made. Shih enjoys the tea and they speak together for a bit. When he accepts the small, cloth packed item however, things start to get interesting. On lookers can see that Shih is intently interested in the wrapped object and that his curiosity is leading him forward. You can see him wince in apparent pain as the weight of the object is laid full in his hand. You watch as he seems to lose his balance and starts to sway, even though he is seated. Still having enough presence of mind to set his cup down before leaning back against the rock wall, he moans a short, deep sound and his eyes roll back up into his head. Deshnah seems to smile to himself and continues to prepare more of the concoction, as he is sure that there will be those who will need it soon.

Dlarumei, who up until this point had been leaning against on of the wall chanting and concentrating on something, raises her head with and abrupt jerk and bolts for the hallway entrance. With her dark robs rippling in her wake, she flashes around the corner like a shadow and vanishes from sight. The Livyani Priest also takes notice of something down the hall and plants himself in the middle of the floor, sets a few stones in odd positions and opens a small pouch containing some white iridescent powder. The guards stand stupefied as Churisan screams his words of warning and begins to run towards the iron door. They also watch and contemplate Nesh's request and motions with regards to the ring demon and it's attacks, and begins speaking amongst themselves.

Almodhim pull herself together and, with much dramatics launches a spell towards Churisan. The ring demon, having turned around, passes closely over Churisan's head and swoops down between Almodhim and Churisan to wreak havoc with the incoming spell. The disc shuttles and wavers as it absorbs the spells powers and then moves in on Almodhim. It flies low to the floor and skips up off the stone at a neckline trajectory with Almodhim. In a flash, she has her sword prepared to deflect the ring demons attack. She arches her back as the disc strikes her sword, and bends quite nimbly, to a point where her head almost strikes the ground. At this point her feet lift off the floor with great speed and flip up over her head as the ring demon slides down her blade and away from her head. In some fashion, so quick it is hard to tell exactly what happened, Almodhim slips the tip of her sword through the center of the ring and then drives her sword to the floor, while her feet and legs make a full circle over her head and come to rest sharply on the floor in a standing position. She pushes the flat of her blade hard to the floor in an effort to pin the ring demon to the stone.

But all is not so simple. As Nesh come dashing with the helmet to contain the demon that Almodhim is pinning to the floor, the disc seems to melt and divide itself away from the sword, reconstituting itself quickly a few feet away. It then leaps back into the air and hovers for a moment between the party and the fleeing Churisan. It starts again towards both Nesh and Almodhim, but before it can move two meters, Orun hooks it and abruptly pulls the demon to the ground with his cross bow. Without much thought, several of the guards pile around the demon to keep it from repeating its old trick. Even Orun looses sight of the disc through the confusion of everyone trying to capture the demon. Until, that is, one of the guards screams in agony and rises above the crowd a few feet. As though bent over a rail, like linen hanging on a line, the man clutches at his stomach and kicks with his feet until, with one massive jerk, the ring demon rips out through the mans back and the soldier falls to the floor in two separate sections. Those around the fallen man realize the there is no blood anywhere, no spilt intestines or gore of any kind to be seen. Just two halves of what used to be Lobi, the more portly of the contingent.

It becomes also more obvious that the ring demon gained something with its journey through Lobi. It seems a bit shinier and more vigorous, it seems to vibrate a bit as it hovers in the air. It then races down the hall, towards Churisan, circles around him twice and then speeds recklessly back towards the party.

Just behind the main contingent in the hallway is Urutlen, who has an arrow notched and is aiming at something down the hall. His breath is shallow, his arms rock hard and his gaze set. He pays no attention to Hrissu who is running up behind him yelling to Churisan, and his eye shifts only slightly as Dlarumei slips past him with enough speed to cause his tunic to move in her wake.

Deshnah still sits over Shih with a fresh cup of tea curiously watching, as the Priest of Sarku lies prone on the floor, ridged as any plank. He gently dabs a slight bit of drool from Shih face with Shih's collar from his robe.

Subject: more on this way
Hrissu's magically enhanced words are heard by all, some turn to look at the master of the voice while others dare not take their gaze from the ring demon. Churisan, however, makes no move of recognition. If he heard the words he has either chosen to ignore them or has not the capacity to respond to them. He continues prying and working on the iron door, franticly chiseling away at his only escape.

The ring demon slows and pauses about thirty feet from Orun, its obvious target at the moment, and hovers as though contemplating something. This action coincides with Dlarumei's arrival to the back ranks of the guards, where she stops quickly, her arms stretched forward in the direction of the disc and her fingers pointing straight and strong toward the hovering circlet of destruction. A strange word slides out from behind her ebony mask and one can visibly see the air move and ripple between her and the ring demon. Most duck in anticipation of something exploding, but there is nothing. No noise, no shock, no obelisk or fog or any other kind of manifestation. All stood at the ready as Dlarumei dropped her arms back to her sides, had something gone awry?
Orun, never having eased up in his position, pulls himself together even tighter, ready for the disc to begin again, and so it does, but not the way anyone expected it to.

The ring demon flies forward about ten feet and then abruptly stops, like an animal on a short tether, it recoils and floats stunned in the air for a moment. Moving forward again, though more cautiously, it once again bumps up against some sort of invisible barrier. It pauses and looks almost as though it were contemplating the situation. You watch as the disc elongates itself to a fine needle pointed spike and study it as it begins working its way towards the party. You can hear the crackle of the barrier being forces apart, like glass when it is cut. Then a pop sound and several other larger bursting sounds like stones smashing together and then the spike returns to the disc form and heads down the hallway towards Dlarumei. Behind it you can see the air move and ripple like water over a fall as the barrier comes down.

As the disc flies down the hall, it first meets up with Orun who, with amber glowing spear, attempts to stop the ring demon. At first he spins the spear, hand over hand, which somehow creates a shield of sorts that the ring demon bounces off of. Once the disc is slowed, Orun grasps the spear and attempts to hook the demon through its center. The amber light encompasses the disc as well a appears to hold it in place for a few moments. But the disc proves not to be easily contained in this manner either and slips from its perch and slides past Orun as he reels away from being sliced again.

Nesh and Almodhim also try franticly to capture the ring demon using weapons in very unconventional ways. But, they too, fail in this endeavor.

The disc it able to out maneuvers their attempts and continue on towards Dlarumei. Though the ring demon seems difficult to hold onto or even get a piece of, most of you notice that it is moving with considerable less agility and speed than you have seen it in the past, and this fact alone is probably what has kept several of you alive to this point.

The ring demon, weaving and bobbing down the hall, avoiding all efforts to grab it, makes its way within three feet of Dlarumei's head before it, once again, bounces off of some invisible barrier. The disc, again, turns itself into a spike and begins the boring process. Only this time, once the spike has apparently made some headway, Dlarumei turns a faces the wall causing the spike to turn with her, and then, making a pushing motion with her hands and arms the spike is sent backwards to the wall where it is pinned to the stone by the barrier that Dlarumei has created.

At this same moment, Deshnah comes racing around the bend of the hallway, running at full tilt, one hand outstretched in front of him and the other holding a wrapped object that seems to be glowing. After Shih had regained consciousness Deshnah bounded off with an intent to assist in some fashion.

Shih is assisted by one of his slaves in drinking the brew set for him by Deshnah, and he slowly regains himself, composure and strength, with every sip he takes.

Small pieces of crumbled stone trickle down over the barrier she has erected, their paths outline a spherical shape as they slide down the shield to the floor. It is obvious from her posture and body language that a great deal of effort is being used to try and keep the demon at bay. Her efforts seem to be slowing the progression, but not stopping its advance.

Orun makes a move towards Dlarumei and her battle, with an apparent concerned look on his face and an obvious searching of how to help. It is not till Deshnah speaks the last of his incantation that any help arrives.

Upon the utterance of his final, obscure, prose, he points his hand at the spike, and with immense speed, shoots a larger version of his web spell. The strands are thick, more like bands than threads, and dark gray, not the white one has seen in the past from Deshnah. The web hits the wall where the shield that Dlarumei has erected meets it and the drapes out over half of her spherical protection. A sound, reminiscent of a heavy metal hammer striking solid stone rings out through the hallway and this is followed by the sound of wood splintering that begins to rise.

Those in the hallway are drawn to the struggle, so much so that a bump, a brush and a breeze slips by all without much notice. Almodhim sprints towards Churisan, sword raised high with pommel first, as he continues to franticly work the lock on the iron door, much to focused to notice anything happening behind him.

Then, as though from nowhere, a blunt arrow rockets past her shoulder and strikes Churisan at the base of the head, a perfect shot between armor protections. Almodhim stops a half a step away from Churisan as he slowly pushes himself away from the door, shakes his head, and turns to face down the hall in a defiant manner. His head swimming with so much confusion and now pain, he casts his glazed gaze with quivering eyes into those of Almodhim and she drops her sword to the floor. Hanging on to consciousness by a thread Churisan see this and a slight look of relief or resolve, hard to say which at this point, slips across his face. Almodhim grabs the front of his tunic to help stand him upright and utters softly, "Forgive me Noble Churisan". She then slams her bare fist squarely into his face and what little fight Churisan had left in him fell from him like a man shedding a coat that was on fire. She catches him as he goes limp and places him on the floor a gently as the puppeteer places her favorite actor in its case. She then turns towards the struggle to see what effect this action has had and to ready herself for a possible vengeful return.

Throughout this time Nesh has been organizing the men, and creating plans of attack involving shield and helm and even packs.

Hrissu who has been focusing on Churisan shrugs his shoulders when the Karakan worshiper is laid out and has a slight look of disappointment that vanishes quickly to contemplation.

Shih is seen making his way down the hallway in a cautious hurry, eyeing those that seem to be injured and shaking his head in disgust as he sees Lobi's separate halves.

Ssrivan too is slowing moving down the hallway, studying the walls and other aspects of the hallway as he goes, his scribe left behind with instructions of some sort.

Ssrivan approaches the hubbub around Deshnah and Dlarumei for long enough to pass something small to Dlarumei, assuming accepting it will not disturb her concentration. He will then retreat to a safe distance and observe the activity carefully.

Subject: And so on, and so on...
Dlarumei, still pushing the spike up against the wall, turns her head to look at Deshnah, her eyes piercing as she judges his words and what he has done. After a brief moment she positions herself to make a quick leap in any direction should things not go the way Deshnah imagines them. It is obvious to her that her spell will not hold the spike for much longer so she is certainly open to alternative suggestions.

With a quick gesture of pulling her hands together across her chest and moving sharply to the left, her protective shield falls, allowing quite a bit of rock and debris to slip to the floor. As quickly as possible and with a sort of spinning move, she bows respectfully and curtly as she takes the vial offered by Ssrivan and then backs away to prepare for what happens next.

The net that Deshnah has cast forth swallows up the spike almost as quickly and begins to constrict around the bronze looking object. It reverts to its disc shape and starts making attempt to cut its way out. The net shrinks tighter and one can hear the stones that were also caught in the nets grasp pop and crumble. The net seems to jerk around as the disc applies pressure to various sides in an effort of finding a weak spot in its captors grasp.

It is only now, that there seems to be a slight reprieve from danger that anyone hears the thumping sound above their heads and notices small trickles of dust falling from the ceiling. There is also a certain smell in the air, something burning perhaps, but not quite like wood or flesh. It is hard to pinpoint but it is there, wafting into the hallway from outside.

With this slight pause Almodhim seizes the opportunity to have two of the guards help her spirit Churisan away to the end station where he can be looked after in a somewhat safer environment. Shih sends his slave after her with a cup of the elixir that Deshnah has just brewed and contemplates following as well but pauses for a moment as the disc and net move quite violently across the hallway towards the windows.

Another stream of netting material shoots froth from Deshnah's hand and this time it glows as brightly as the wrapped object being held firmly in his other hand. When it hit the floating net already encasing the demon ring, there is a sharp whip sound and the whole bundle slides back fifteen meters down the hallway. It is obvious that there is an intense struggle going on within the netting as the constricting ball containing the ring demon starts flying around the room. At first without direction or purpose, but after a few moments it swoops down on the group of guards, slamming into them like a huge bolder rampaging through a forest.

Several guards are knocked from their feet and others slammed up against the wall. One even grabs hold of the furry to contain it, but quickly thinks twice of his choice as he is lifted several feet off the ground. He lets go and draws his axe, ready to swing at the menacing mass of netting. Both Deshnah and Nesh in unison yell for him to not strike the net and to put his weapon away. It is obvious that striking the object would bring no good advancement in trying to contain the demon ring.

The ball then heads towards the iron door for a second and starts another run at the group. Those who notice see Dlarumei, once again, throw her arms up and watch as the air around them, once again, seem to ripple. The balls moments stops abruptly and with a resounding thud. It spins in the air, trying over and over again to make way down the hallway towards the party. It target blocked, it seems to go wild, thrashing about, bouncing of the walls and ceiling, knocking off pieces of slate and stone with every impact. Then as though a thought has only just occurred the ball rockets out the window. You can hear it whistle in the open air, the netting providing enough drag to create sound, as it circles around and heads back towards the hallway, but on the other side of the barrier that Dlarumei had erected.

Many of the guard move against the inside wall and Dlarumei quickly makes another move with her hands and arms. This time the barrier hits the wall so hard that it shakes the hallway, but it is just in time as the ball of netting containing the ring demon smashed up against the barrier and then backs off, leaving a fracture line running the length of Dlarumei's invisible wall.

Deshnah quickly casts out several other heavy webs blocking the next three windows back down the hallway, almost pinning on the guards who had sought refuge between the windows. It is looking though this new web, at the approaching ball of furry, that you understand the noise from above.

First, there are more large thuds from overhead, sending down small stones and dust. Then an ear piercing sound like the howl of some unearthly beast, and then the visual. A clawed hand swoops down above and takes hold of the ball containing the ring demon. The hand itself is perhaps three times the size of any man and as wide as two. The leathery and scarred skin, in its green red and brown hues, smoking as it passed by the windows, the muscles in the forearm ripple as the beast clenches its fist tightly around the ball. Yet the struggle continues. The massive arm is tossed back and forth as the demon ring obviously thrashes about inside its prison. From above there are grunts and groans and a series of rocks pass in front of the window openings. It is obvious that, whatever is up there is using its other hand to hold on to the mountain while the ring demon tries to pull everything downward. There is a large thump from above and then the sound of something hitting against the outside wall of the hallway. Three of the windows go black as something blocks out all light beaming in through them. Another thump and a long, thick tentacle threads its way into one window and out through the next and synchs itself tightly around the stone.

The wall seems to move slightly under the strain of the conflict hanging off the face of the mountain. The battle rages on for several more moments when several more tentacles and another clawed hand seek holds through the window openings. One such attempt catches Jageth, the guard pancaked out against the exterior wall. He had found no safe opportunity to move and now found himself pinned against the wall by the hard, curved claw of the beast's hand. Like a Chur fly on sap, the man was unable to move away from his predicament and sought several attempts of freeing himself before he went limp against the wall.

Moments later, another large thump and you watch as the wall gives away. Windows pop out of the wall like corks from jugs. There is a frenzy of claws and tentacles grasping for purchase, but only finding lose stone that gives far too easily away. In a matter of seconds the rampage ends as beast, with Jageth, netting and the ring demon in hand fall away from the face of the cliff taking a large portion of the wall with it. The fall is long, and those who venture to the presuppose to watch see the continued struggle as the massive best, now identifiable by some as a greater demon used by some through the Livyanu nation, pulls all limbs to its center, focusing on the hand that holds the ring demon and curls up into a ball of its own. It continues to fall to the very bottom of the cliff, thousands of meters down, but instead of hitting the valley floor, it vanishes from sight in a wisp of smoke or something similar. It is hard to tell exactly what when on from such a great height.

Dlarumei, visibly shaking from repeated magical exertions slowly slips the small vial back into Ssrivan's hand.

"Thank you for your offer of this precious item, noble locksmith. As it worked out, we did not need its effects this time around. I return it to your capable hands for safekeeping and the wisdom for its employ. Sometimes curiosity can prove to be most useful."

Dlarumei smiles a quick yet pained smile at the locksmith. " Now, noble Ssrivan, I would enjoy your company back to where the slaves are, I may need a bit of assistance to get there as I seemed to have put forth a bit more effort than usual and I am feeling a bit shaky at this moment. I would also like to speak to you about your thoughts on the iron door at the end of this hallway. So if you would please..."

She takes a short step forward, in the direction of the end station, a step that is visibly difficult and terribly unsteady, it is obvious that she will accept assistance at this point.

With things well in hand, Shih walks to the new opening created by the demon to see the magnificent view, somehow all too familiar. Careful to grab a secure part of the wall, he looks down and peers up. He turns and walks over to where the majority of the group are now resting and recuperating to tell them what he saw.

"Down, and below us, way below us, are the rocks of a shoreline, the shoreline for the inland sea that stretches out of sight to a wisp of land on the far side. I've never been this high before. If I'm not mistaken, this is the inland sea north of the mountains which are north of Sarku City."

"However, up is the most interesting view. The cliff extends another 100 feet above our heads. There does seem to be a ledge over the top of the hallway as though this were a natural passage or one that was made to look like one. There are some handholds available so one could possibly reach the top of the hallway outcropping, but it is obviously not stable as the stone appears more shale-like in nature and prone to flaking off in large chunks."

"While the iron door is certainly the logical exit and I have no doubt we'll find what remains of a ladder, it's also the most likely place to be trapped. Once we're rested and with a bit of rope, we might be best served simply bypassing the door. If I'm not mistaken, some in our group can magically fly. This is probably the safest way to make our way up."

Shih walks down to where his slaves have set up camp and makes himself comfortable near where Deshnah is tending Churisan. Time for food and rest. After speaking quietly with each of his slaves, Shih focuses on Deshnah as if he's just recalled something.

"Deshnah, what did you mean when you said that my Lord of Worms will have to wait before inviting me to join him? What was taken from me?"
