Re: Cutting Up

In Day's current world "The Dragonhunt of Terracuyl the Red", I'm aiming for inflation compared to medieval standards, but not terrible inflation.  This is due to it being a D20 world with lots more gold, silver, and jewels than a regular world.

Also, there is the further adjustment of prices due to peculiarities of this world.

Like, you won't starve if you do even the most minor amount of work because 'pot scrapings' are available for those with almost no cash.  Its a social custom backed up by noble edict with the intent to keep starvation at bay.

The modern day equivalent would be 'You can have three meals of hot dogs in buns with mustard, and off-brand coke, and green beans from a can for five bucks.'  So while there isn't welfare as such (although there are some giveaways), there is cheap food, adn there are small jobs a-plenty.

In a low regulation world, its easy to hire a guy to do one job, and then send him packing.  Unlike in modern civilization, its fairly hard to do that unless you go through a temp service, and end up paying the temp service the same amount or more as the guy you hired.

Re: Cutting Up

Oh, yeah. I remember that.

I'd start raising prices in my games if adventurers lingered, to reflect the idea that people with money tend to spend it. It would stabilize if they lingered long enough, but in the short term, it tended to lead to inflation.

Never failed to anger my players though. Perhaps it was one reason I did it, sheer jerkiness.

Re: Cutting Up

I've thought about it again, and I don't like the idea of bringing back my retired character.

Please, forget I ever brought it up.

Re: Cutting Up

Krillis,
Its fine, I probably would have done something like you wanted (just not as cool). And if you change your mind again, I can.  I might prefer waiting until you get finished with this world so I don't have two Krillis' threads to run.

Sometimes I don't answer as quickly as I should because of laziness/work load.

Think about a temporary gather verse, m'kay? Possibly that one with the Seven Vices and demons.

Re: Cutting Up

A week or two...but I want 1)To get your universe dealt with (or at least have you in a new universe with the planet...that's one way to deal with things). 2)Get my new players Shane and Lucas settled in before I root them back up and move them temporarily.

One possibility is Day's world...I have a full scale dungeon in his world that really would need a party to handle it.  Its pure dungeon-hacking.

"The Temple of the Dying Sun" is ...challenging.  Its got a host of tricks and traps, and tough enemies.  Its not designed to be an instant death dungeon, but it is designed to be one that makes the player paranoid.

I've always heard about dungeons where people carried ten foot poles, and probed cautiously....well, I didn't see too many like that. I saw too much of 'you open the door, and there's these orcs.'  This is supposed to be That Place. The one where the GM says 'you see an empty room' and the players get out their checklist of trap detection gear. The one where orcs have murder holes in the ceiling of the hallway, and a pit opens up behind you, trapping you in a dead end with orcs pouring boiling oil through murder holes on top of you.  THAT ONE.

And Mentat was my writing partner/system design guy for this work of controlled paranoia.  He thinks its too rough, but I think that properly fearful players could survive.

Re: Cutting Up

A temp gather could be fun...

And getting a chance for Krillis to run us a bit could be fun...

But... we'd miss you!!!  :(

Any chance that it would only be a GMing break for you, and that you would join in as a player???  :)

Hunh. Maybe.

I'm not nearly as good at playing. And a major part of the point is to get a break.

Re: Cutting Up

I've been rolling that around and around recently, so that might be cool to do.  I have a little more work to do on it, but I'll definately have that world done really soon.

When were you planning on taking those two weeks?

Re: Cutting Up

A week or two from now sound about right, Krillis?  Oak is really running up to a crisis point, and two weeks would certainly be enough to get my two newest players settled, and of course, get Amanda fully settled too.

Re: Cutting Up

That's plenty of time.  School's finally out.  I'll be moving around a little bit soon, but I'll have access to the internet and a computer, so it'll be fine, probably.

I'm almost done with the world, working out some plot things at the moment.  It'd help if I knew everyone who planned on being in the world, and generally what skills and personalities they have (it makes a difference, really).

Count me in, Krillis!  :)

Though if things go too far into June, I might be offline on vacation for a few days...

Re: Cutting Up

I'd like to just update this query.

I need to know who's going to want to be in the gather world in a couple of weeks.

So far, I have...
1. Oak
2. Day

Is that accurate so far?  Say something if you're interested as well or if I've looked over you already saying you wanted in.

Oh, no. I thought the aforementioned deathtrap was too rough in D&D, where mortality actually does have some kind of impact. All versers going in?

*evil laugh*

Have fun gents. Let me know what the parts I didn't use are like.

Re: Cutting Up

See you Tuesday.

Honor the fallen veterans, and enjoy a bbq.

For my non-USA players, today is Memorial Day here.

I took my firstborn to walk in the parade (he's a Cub Scout), and to a service at the monument in front of the courthouse. I hope to take the boys down to the creek to wade in it, and tonight to watch at the outdoor theatre, the Pink Cadillac, a double feature--Indiana Jones and Iron Man...which is about as good as it gets.

Re: Cutting Up

My memorial day was full of packing things up and moving to a new city.  The family's togeather again, and that'll be the case until the school year starts, when I'll start going to the University.

I'm studying to be a medicineman/drug dealer.

Re: Cutting Up

Interesting proffesion Krillis. I hope you are aiming for the legal kind of drug dealer, and not the other other kind.

I will be moving as well, though I'm not going until the end of august. My plan is basically to find work wherever for about half a year, then I have to complete six months of military training and when all that is over I'm going to England to study creative writing.

What about the rest of you? Anyone feel like sharing their plans for the future?
