Re: *GASP* I LIVE!!!

PT's GMing stamina isn't what it used to be, which isn't too surprising.  After all, we're almost to 25K posts!  That is why he is eagerly looking forward to his extended GMing vacation.  He has only been kindly hanging on this long to keep the game going until I can step in next month.  So PT's daily posting schedule of old is a bit more relaxed these days...  :)

Ah, that's cool. :) Man, he's dedicated. 25k and he's still at it. He deserves his vacation. ^_^

Oh noes! The message board is yelling at me again!

Wow, that will be the third OOC I've seen this site go through. Go me for staying around that long.

Yeah, I usually try to let it get into the 990s before I retire an OOC thread...  :)

If you're going to retire it, at least let it be like at a 0.. seeing the 3599 is hella annoying every time I look at it...

Re: Annoyance

Posting about the date has made me realise 2 things:
1) I've been playing this game for just under a year now: Yay!
2) Time becomes really distorted when you play either by moments or by summary. I have no idea ho much time might have past in-game since my first post. It could be 2 months, but it could just as well be 20. How much different are we now since the day we first versed, IC or OoC?

Edit: Sure enough, things got weirder. I've been reading over the shoulder of Shane, and apparently I've forgotten about that time, about 400 years ago, when I will crash-land a spaceship and will die saving a man's life. Silly that one can just miss these little things.
That, or Shane is mistaking some poor guy for me, but let's not assume the inplausible. :-D

Re: Annoyance

Or it hasn't happened to you yet.  After all, someone thought Shane was some super buff verser ....Shane the Unstoppable, the type of guy who pals around with the Alchemist.

As to hypergenes, I'm losing track of details. Remind me when I forget.

Re: Annoyance

Oh, I actually dread meeting myself. The question I'll have to ask him is "Are you a good me or a bad me?" Likely I'll pick up the answer pretty fast. Hopefully I wouldn't catch myself in a mood where I'm inclined to just blow the imposter up and call it a day.

Re: Annoyance

Blowing yourself up when you meet yourself might not be such a good idea Mentat. You have to look at time a bit more abstractly than that. Because if you do kill yourself, then the next time you meet yourself you might end up on the receiving end, and it's not like you can become angry and wish to get back at your killer, because it will have been yourself doing the killing.

Understand?

I wonder what it would be like meeting myself in another world. I'm afraid if that happened it would result in a hundred+ posts of discussion on the nature of the multiverse, and the implications to the time-space continuum of me speaking to myself, and whether or not it would produce a black hole if I actually touched myself.

Re: Annoyance

You also have to think about the possibilities that another 'self' in a different verse could have become a verser as well, and that you may not be the only Hadrian out there.

And on that note, I can wonder how many Avahurs are out there and if I met another me, or better yet.. 2 of me at the same time...  the fun that would ensue.

... especially if you found out that the other two Avahur's were pious dogooders. You'd verse out of sheer shock - or disgust.

Not entirely.

There is more to Avahur than what most see.  Spend a world or three with Avahur, you might get to see something good happen.  Or... you might see him level a city...again.  Either way, it'll be entertaining.

Re: Annoyance

I'd have to believe my future is set in stone to care. If it really is me, and he's a nice me, no problems. But if its a nasty me, he'll say, "Certain death? Peesh, immortality is wonderful, huh? Damnation? Cross that bridge when I get there."

I'm already sliding there... O.O

Is it Fate or Chance? Oak's last two posts by me have been eaten. It makes me wonder if such was meant to happen so that I would reconsider the Botch. I have, and so Oak, you can stop praying for good dice rolls now.

That's cheating you know. :)

Re: Annoyance

I have a question about our GM situation. So the facts I have accumulated are these: Playtester is going on a well-deserved break; which I'm sure we all agree he should, having kept his pace, and wit, with the bulk us for so long.

Oak will be leading a gather in PT's initial absence.

My question is: what then? Is the plan to have Oak, if he is up to the challenge, to fill in for PT in ALL the various worlds? Just thinking this makes me shudder.

Or has filling up the GM ranks been discussed? Is this even possible? Is Multiverser a game system that a fledgling GM can order from the interwebz?

My questions stems from concern for our good Oakmaster. I'd hate to see him tire himself out trying to sail the ship all on his own.

Re: Annoyance

PT is amazingly creative, able to accommodate a wide variety of worlds and player preferences, and able to multitask many threads in many worlds.

I am... not so much.  :p

Therefore, the plan is to proceed by leveraging off of my own humble capabilities, which means everyone will be in a single gather world of my own creation.  I seem to be able to cope with multiple players in one world better than multiple players in multiple worlds.

The twist that makes this possibly sufficient?  Well, without wanting to give away too much... but this upcoming gather may well last a year or more, and PT may well be ready to take over again when it is finally done.  :)

That being said, the question is a good one.

I would highly recommend that aspiring Multiverser GMs head on over to gamingoutpost.com and get some Multiverser mechanics training from one of the game designers, MJ Young.  He has been pretty busy these days, but he is indeed interested in helping folks learn the ropes of GMing Multiverser.  :)

Re: Annoyance

And yes, you can buy the Multiverser: The Game rpg rule book.  Its huge, but the vast majority of it is skill charts and is thus stuff you don't need to read in detail.

I think its very creative, extremely insightful, of massive broadness of topic, and sometimes a bit klunky and hard to read. It is a work of genius. There are also the First and Second Book of Worlds which list 18 total worlds you can use to help you get started. I think there is or will be something called Triple Play which is three worlds only. Some of the worlds are astounding...Ba'kegn is brilliant and utterly strange.
And if you go to Lulu.com and search for 'Death of a Blogger' you'll find my storefront and you might find some useful Multiverser related stuff there. Buy one of everything for yourself, and one for each of your friends. :)
I hope to add some more stuff to the storefront sometime after I start to take my break.
If Oak hasn't bought the Big Black Book (my name for it) of basic rules, I highly reccomend that he do so.
As I usually say, buying the book has the advantage of you finding out all the things I'm doing wrong.
MJ, the game designer, does give plentiful and clearly logical advice to those who ask at Gamingoutpost.com.  And there are a lot of pretty good ideas for worlds in the back pages of the site.
One of my favorite worlds (in the top twenty) is Music Wars which was conceptualized by JohnA1Nut. And the world you were in...Red Shirt Terror World (not the greatest of names) was created on the pages of GO.
And if you want to try to run worlds, Hadrian, or someone else does, that would be most interesting.
