Re: Many Paths

Welcome back, Jhiaxus!  :)

I am currently buried alive in Real Life deadlines, so The Last Verse is taking a nap.

However, a number of Multiverser GMs and players have managed to find each other (both from Worldwalker and GO), and have rescued themselves from boredom...  ;)

Yeah, we got out of GO just in time. The site died a week later.

In reply to Oak (msg # 947):

Nods, I am up to 6 Different Jhiaxi now, so as they say, you can never have enough of a good thing :P. My schedule has opened up in terms of my main job, but Magic The Gathering, both playing and the financial part has taken up a bit of that free time, and just hobbies in general.

Re: Many Paths

The expansion New Phyrexia will give a Worldwalker magus some new tricks, if you are into weaponized Nightmare Fuel (Anarch as the powers of hell itself, though, unlike conventional Black Mana).

In reply to Magnus (msg # 952):

I thank New Phyrexia for things like Karn Liberated, Birthing Pod, Batterskull, Elesh Norn, Surgical Extraction, Meleria, Spellskite, Phyrexian Obliterator and Dismember. Some of them for making many different Modern decks possible, some of them for making me a lot of money, and the concept of Phyrexian Mana, paying life to cast spells.

Re: Many Paths

I love my Kindle. I can get cheap, or even free books of quality from eh okay to pretty good.

I just downloaded Awake in the Night Lands by John C. Wright which instead of five bucks is free today, I think.

I've read Phoenix Exultant, Mists of Everness #2, and Orphans of Chaos#2.  He does grand scale hard SF with superhumans, and epic Fantasy in weird places (Past the Edge of Night, along the curve of Thought where the Nereids plotted to take over the Moon from its new owners...)is my paraphrase of his style.

Anyways, Night Lands starts with 'Five Million Years Before the Extinction of Humanity' so I think it might fit well with the City of Pain thing that Mentat is involved in.  The last of humanity is in this fortress surrounded by odd Things In the Night, and the Humans know they will eventually die because seers told them so.

Re: Many Paths

Adding Chaos to your body for running sounds like it could work.  You'd be either going for speed, or endurance.  Speed, would I think, tend to break down the body, so that you could end your run having lost most of your muscle mass.

Using Chaos inside your body tends to make one older.  It also, for strong casters tends to make their eyes glow orange or yellow.

Its possible to use Chaos outside  your body.  Its harder, but it protects you from the aging effects (most powerful White Wizards of Chaos die young).

Flight would be possible, but in Chaos magic it would be a large amount of casting, and it'd be like riding a rocket with a lasso.  I'd think something like a single shot superjump would be better.

Just my opinion.  YMMV.

I will be on vacation for the next week.

But there should be internet in the motel, so what could possibly go wrong?  :o

If you're talking about me, I already have a short duration speed booster.  A new Chaos ability is a tough decision to make.

If you're not talking about me, never mind...

Re: Many Paths

Can anyone rescue me from boredom? I've been content for a while just waiting for Last Verse but I have two other games that are stalling out one for three months and another for the last two months. Hence boredom, and a sense that they won't be coming back for a while yet.

Re: Many Paths

My profuse apologies.  Lots of folks have been waiting for The Last Verse for awhile, but my Real Life Schedule runneth over...  :(

However, if you can find a GM willing and able to run you, go for it.  If and when The Last Verse returns, we will find some way to work things out for anyone that wants to pick it up again...  :)

Re: Many Paths

Very cool! And no apologies are necessary Oak. I know how it can be when you're a busy person so I can certainly get behind not having enough time to give good attention.

I just noticed that Misty got a thread rolling so I just wanted to make a general shout out to any free GMs, player here and willing. ^_^

Talking about your game, Misty.

McCallister, I'll pick you up for one world.  See if we can get someone to take you on after that.

If you could post some details on your character...?

McCallister's New World

You wake from a dream of discussing Platonism with Humpty Dumpty, and every time you are about to make a point he changes the meanings of the words.

And then you're laying by a open stone gate high on a steep hillside over a vast circular valley.

Like Saruman my power has been broken.  I guess experimenting creating supersoldiers with the GenetiX Lab 3000 in the backyard was a bad idea....  :)

Re: McCallister's New World

To be fair, stupid things killing me is more common then I'd like to admit. Complex strategies I can counter by doing something simple, but countering simple strategies is amazingly difficult, because they don't have many points I can add friction to.

So a rust snail killing me would not be that far out of my range. And I hate you for suggesting it.

Supercharacters

Those of you who came from GO might remember that we had a few discussions about how to run supercharacters as a referee. One complaint that was raised was that the supercharacter does everything for the player. I think I've discovered that it's all in /how/ the supercharacter does everything for the player. Misty offered to buy everyone in the town dinner. Magehammer stepped it up a notch, offering to provide a venison roast for the whole town. For her part, Misty had to hunt three deer, entertain an 8 year old girl for an evening and push a button. When she pushed the button, everything for setting up the party was done for her by magic. But now she has been thrown into an awkward situation with no warning of what was going to happen and no time to prepare for it. The supercharacter did everything for her, but now she has to deal with the repercussions of that.

So it's all in /how/ the supercharacter does everything for the player.
