This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

In reply to JohnA1nut (msg # 910):

Modestly familiar... but I am a bit leery of certain aspects of your GMing style, John. I'm not big on power for the sake of power, and that Verser World of yours smells like a Mary Suetopia. That being said, I am willing to try, seeing as you do handle storylines and characterizations well.

Now I'm wondering what all of my work have you read.....

Verser World is the world I generally start new players. It's kind of a Get To Know You kind of world. Scord isn't a new player. We've been playing on a different forum for years.

If you wouldn't want to start in that world, that's cool. If you're interested in starting a game with me, Private Message Oak and tell him to start thread "Carl In Paintball World."

To give you an idea, I just read through part of "John Junior" and started into "John in 'Jehnisis'" picking up what has gone before in your gaming.

I keep forgetting that Tadeusz is wearing an Iron Man suit from his waist to his helmet, and boots.

How do people react to him?

Also, Oak, what skill or ability would you teach to n00b versers?

You said to let you think on it.....

Carl, I have an idea that I want to write in a Multiverser novel.  Lumberjack verses out with his axe....into a world with evil Fey.  and yes, they don't like his axe.

Hey, Tadeusz and Carl. I noticed you are about the same age. Are you offline friends? How do you know each other?

Carl, When I suggested retconning the story back, you didn't say anything. What do you think of the  world? We can retcon it back if you'd like. I can run you in a different world. Are you enjoying playing?

Anyway, catch you guys later!!!!!!

Or we can get rid of Carly Rae. Start you out the way I normally start that world out.

What would you think of that? Your character doesn't like guns. This world, paintballs take the place of guns. You'll fit right in.

What do you say? Get rid of Carly Rae?

It's not just my character who is shy about guns, John.
And paintballs can still injure someone, even if they are much weaker than bullets. That's one of the reasons players in real life wear protective gear.

So, to be clear, what do you want to do? Different world? Get rid of Carly Rae?

I was just trying something new with that. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn. That didn't work!!!! Now I know that!!!

So what's it gonna be?

BTW, these paintballs can't hurt anybody. They're designed that way. Only about 50% of the time do they even leave a bruise.

And if they hit an eye?

Likewise, what kind of chemical reactions can happen? Someone allergic to that particular color, or even to paint in general? And what happens if a paintball gets inhaled by mistake?

I'm willing to keep on in this world, with or without Carly Rae, but a different world would certainly be an idea.

Ya know what Carl? I think it would be best to just end the game entirely. I don't think you and I are compatible.

Hope you enjoy playing with Eric!!!

If you're going to "What If" like that, you might as well go live in a plastic bubble. Life is dangerous. That was their attempt at making it less so.

I firmly believe that if you don't think I have the right to own guns, then you don't have the right to be an American citizen.

That is pushing the border of going too far, John.

Re: This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

I see it as the player's duty to maximize the power of their character, and the referee's duty to limit that power acquisition to a reasonable rate. Reasonable can be wimp to a god in 10 minutes or pocket knife to Bowie knife in 10 years depending on the story.

In reply to Scord (msg # 931):

I would tend to disagree there. Power is not the key to many situations. And a too-powerful character becomes increasingly hard to present challenges for (case in point, Superman during the Silver Age).

Re: This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

Yeah, I'm gonna go with Carl on that one. It's fun to get powerful, but not invincible. And not too quickly. I imagine the version of Magehammer I play as referee suicides out of a lot of worlds because there's nothing that can kill him. He's had a good time, off to face a new challenge!!!!

Although I can totally understand your point as well Scord. God made all men. Samuel Colt made them equal.

Re: This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

As a person, my duty is to love God and all. My character has the same mindset since he's based off of me, and power is nothing more than freedom to act and accomplish a goal. Power is only a means to accomplish love.

But from the perspective of storytelling, overpowered characters limit storyline possibilities. Limiting power increases necessary creativity in the problem solving skills of the player while increased power increases the necessary problem creating skills of the referee.
