Re: This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

Power is the ability to influence an outcome. If I can influence an outcome, I have options that don't exist without that power. Consider what power does for a Mary Sue. A Mary Sue with omnipotence can do anything s/he wants - unlimited options. Remove that power and the options are limited by the extent of what power remains. The desire for freedom is the same as the desire for power or money.

In reply to Scord (msg # 936):

I'm reminded of the character I play in nuric's game. He had the body and powers of Hercules (the initial story arc was body-swap situation), but defeated his villainous foe by tickling and saying things that the man could not figure out.

Re: This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

How would Scord and Carl feel about running in a gather world. That is, both players in Verser World, where Scord is currently residing? The only caveat is that all participants have to post fairly regularly for it to work well.

Anyone interested?

You might have. I honestly don't remember.

Just thought I'd extend the invitation. No harm in that, right?

Re: This Subject Line For Rent Or Lease

I just think Verser World would be a really great world for a starting player. Three billion versers all with their own unique stories to share.

I run two worlds populated entirely by versers. That world and Candy Store. Candy Store, all of the world's populace has been decimated by a psionics botch, leaving only one super verser and his protege behind. It's can be a fun training world.

There's a plant forbidden in the forum? Hmm. Where are the forum-specific rules compiled?

Illegal drugs are not to be mentioned. I was talking about a certain illegal plant.

In reply to JohnA1nut (msg # 944):

I see.

One might point out that illegal status varies from nation to nation. And at least one commonly illegal drug comes from a plant whose seeds are entirely legal (unlike the rest of the plant) and a popular food item (think muffins, bagels, rugala fillings).
But I suspect I know which plant you are meaning, assuming American culture.

One thing you'll learn if you stay on this forum long enough. Oak is a patient and fair moderator with an iron fist. Don't argue with him. He will win the argument, one way or the other.

RPoL Site Policies:
Adult and Mature Ratings

Games on RPoL may be rated either Adult or Mature to signal that they are not suitable for all site users.

Mature games are games which have (as some minor portion of them) mature themes, strong language, drug use, and/or extensive violence.  Mature games use the Mature Content flag to warn potential readers that some of the game material may be considered offensive.  Despite this flag, Mature Games must remain suitable to all ages.

Worldwalker has neither an Adult nor a Mature rating, so our host has specific policies we need to abide by.

Much better for me to keep us on RPoL's good side than to have us booted off the server.  If you think that I've got an iron fist... :o

Well, it is the third time we've been in a game together (that I know of) Scord. Still, expect the unexpected.

Yeah, the RPOL top guys are not what I consider patient people.  They are, I suspect, liberals, and that means innately good so they will hit very hard and sleep well.  You do not want to get on their bad side.

John,
quote:
She knows any weaponless hand to hand fighting style you can imagine

gets dangerous if not absolutely terrifying when you consider some of the Wuxia martial arts out there. First of the Nose Hair is mild compared to some of the absolutely absurd martial arts styles in the same setting, much less when you compare it to the crazy power levels of Dragon Ball or the roleplaying game Exalted.

The keywords there are "That you can imagine." What I'm saying is that if Eric wants to learn martial arts, and he asks "Does she know this style?" The answer will always be "Yes."

It's not to imply that she knows every martial arts style. Just any Eric can imagine.

Your point was that there are martial arts which can crack worlds in half. I think you're put me in my place. She would be physically incapable of performing such a martial art.

So I should probably change that to any "Reasonable" martial art.

Eh whatever. It's just a game.

Or maybe you could explain your point.

Apologies for butting in again, John, but mentioning what kind of being someone is helps more than "tall, rangy, and handsome." Such as describing Launchpad as some sort of anthropomorphic waterfowl?

Besides, what counts as handsome or beautiful can vary wildly between cultures.

If Eric wants to envision him that way, that's up to Eric. I give what details I think the player needs. If they want to envision something totally different, more power to them.

No problem about "butting in." That's kind of what this forum is for. To encourage friendly and polite discussion about gaming methodologies. If you're bugging me, I'll let you know. If you bug me too much, I'll let Oak know. Cool? So feel free. For now, anyway.

Actually, the notion that "Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder" has been proven false. Strangely enough. One such test I remember seeing consisted of five pictures of young women. The participants were told to put them in order based on how beautiful they were. In the vast majority of the returns, the pictures were arranged identically. In the ones where they weren't, it might be two switched for three or three switched for four, but the one and five were always the same.

Sad that is, I think. But it does make sense.

Were the participants in that study all from the same (or similar) cultures, or were they from wildly divergent societies?

The only biologically consistent beauty factor I am aware of among humans has to do with forehead angles relative to the main face.

I believe MythBusters tested it as well. Maybe you might want to look up their study?

Couldn't hurt if this is a topic in which you are interested.
