OOC) Yeah Scord. That other world was just not getting me anymore.

So, you are completely overrun by the creatures you're battling. They get inside the mecha and pull you out of it and rip you to pieces.

You verse out wondering why you didn't take the mecha with you. It's because you weren't at the controls when you versed out.

Anyway, you're waking up on a street with cracked pavement. Buildings are decayed. It looks like that world where all of the people were killed in a psionics botch. You met Magehammer, Slider, Olivia, Samantha and Bob Thomas. Not all at once. (I've run that world for him three times!!!!)

Looking up, you see a young, blonde girl in a blue and white dress, blue shoes and white stockings. Somehow, you just know her name is Alice. She's got a verser sense to her. She's gesturing for you to follow her. She steps backwards and disapears, then steps forwards and reappears.

If I'm in my human body, using Chaos Vision, I try to see how she's disappearing. I shout, "Alice! You're not a white rabbit! Am I in Wonderland?"

I do a quick check of the biases which I OOCly have a feeling won't matter in a few moments anyway.

You're in the Terminator. (I totally forgot about that!!!) Cycling through the different visual modes of the Terminator, how she's disappearing is beyond analysis. It shows different wavelengths of light at different frequencies, but nothing you can make sense of.

Alice says "Ah yes, your belongings." And she waves a magic wand. Your unconscious human body and all of your gear appear in a loose pile on the ground.

Alice insists "Come come!!!!"

Scord in Verser World

You step through. It's like walking through a wall of jelly. Then you're on the other side.

You see rows and rows of small, one or two story structures. Some are wood and mud, others are high-tech polymers. Every building style and material in between.

You see flying cars and horse-drawn carriages. Every manner of vehicles you can imagine.

There are people walking around. Every dress, style, race creed or color of person is represented. You see Black Panthers and Ku Klux Klan members debating philosophy. You see Jews and Nazis talking like old friends. Every single person has a scriff sense to them. They all seem to have put their petty differences aside. They are all united as versers.

The gateway you just came through is a huge half-bubble. Silver in color. It covers a city block. There is a similar bubble every half-mile or so, at regular, 90 degree intervals. Like the corners of a city block. The buildings are built in line with them.

Off in the distance is a huge, ivory colored tower. It stretches so high into the clouds that the top is not visible.

Closest to this bubble, is a man blacksmithing at a forge. He's tall, with thick, graying brown hair and a thick, graying beard. He's wearing a black trenchcoat and an impossibly large backpack.

When you and Alice step through, she turns to him and yells out "Mister Magehammer!!! I found one!!!!"

He looks up at you from the blacksmithing forge and disappears. Instantly he's standing in front of you, extending his hand to shake.

"I'm Councilman Magehammer. Welcome to Verser World."

OOC) I don't believe this character has met Magehammer.

"Some call it Verser World. Some call it The Hub. Every single person here is a verser. There's the wizards like myself, practicing magic. There's the psionists, masters of psionics. There's Carter and the other techno heads. Then Sportacus, Stephanie and the other body builders. They can do some amazing feats."

Then Alice speaks "Good sir, at last count, there were approximately three billion versers here. Mister Magehammer is a member of the Council. It is made up of the oldest and most powerful versers. There's Councilman Tadeusz and Councilman Oakmaster, and the rest. Mostly they mediate disputes."

Magehammer says "It's largely anarchistic here. No one wants to start trouble with another verser. The gods only know what powers or weapons they can bring to bear. So we go out of our way to get along. The council generally just mediates what disputes they cannot work out on their own."

quote:
I check the biases again.

It's easier here than it ever has been or ever will be again.

When they notice you doing that, Alice says "If you are proficient with your magic and psionic abilities, do them freely. However, if you are planning to practice something new or especially dangerous, we ask that you go into one of the sub universes. I can tell you which of these are safe to enter. That way, if you botch, regardless of its severity, it will be contained within. Do Not be the one who botches and ruins this world for everyone."

Magehammer laughs at you. Didn't you know? All magic is always possible, provided the world bias is high enough to support it and you can find a god or two willing to back you on it. The latter might be tricky, and you should definitely be careful what gods you call upon. But yes, things like that are always possible in a a sufficiently biased world."

Alice says "My magic follows the god LewisCarrol."

quote:
What else do people do in the Hub?

Magehammer laughs again. "That question would better be stated 'What else do people NOT do in the hub'?" Name it. It's almost certainly here."

quote:
Is there an agreed upon currency that everyone uses?"

"Things are worth what you and the other party can agree that they're worth. Most people will deal in the common metals. Gold, silver, lead, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, etc."

Then Alice steps up and says "Good, sir, you should head towards The Tower. You can acquire lodgings and work there. Until you are established enough to own your own home."

Magehammer agrees "Almost everybody starts out in The Tower. Almost 1.5 billion people live inside it."

Magehammer says "If you've any books, audio/video recordings, or the like, you can sell them at The Tower. Also, schematics for devices you might own. If it's truly unique to this world you own the design on it and you can have them cloned and sold. Ray over here deals in Ray guns. I guess he brought in a whole boatload of schematics."

But then they both shoo you away with backhanded waves telling you to get to The Tower. Magehammer has customers piling up at his shoppe and Alice has more worlds to check.

OOC) I'm not 100% certain I know what you mean about creating your own universe. That wouldn't be necessary. If you created the magic for a story or whatever, it's every bit as valid as any other. You could perform it under the established rules of your story. You just need to find a god willing to back you on it, and that's fairly simple. GE roll.

Gods have their own biases. Are they Affiliated (aligned with The One True God) Neutral (not aligned with any other god, except perhaps other Neutral gods.) And Unaffiliated (aligned with the opposite of The One True God.) Some religions call him Satan.

You don't need to create your own universe. Players make up their own magic all the time. Myself and a player named Avahur were working on a combination of Order/Chaos and Elemental magic when he inexplicably stopped playing. The gods of Order and Chaos are affiliated with the Elemental gods. Both neutral.

Having taken in all of the advice and information, I begin heading in the direction of the Tower. I keep my eye out for someone selling Hyperdimensional storage that will allow me to keep all of my things with me, even large items too big to carry like a car and heavy items like an anvil.

Once I reach the Tower, I look for lodging and see if I can earn my keep with my Chaos crystal item creating.

I meditate on the magics that I had thought up, and how I might go about acquiring them - that particular magic requires access to both technology and Neutrally aligned elemental magic. It is a "grey fog" nanobot that telepathically reads the intentions of the user and magnifies their effect on reality by actively doing the action for the user in addition to aiding the magical effect.

OOC) Since it seems you're reading, Hey Oak. Your last name translates to "Oakmaster" from some other language, is that correct?

OOC) I am going to list some of the shoppes you pass on your trek. This is being described on the assumption that you do not stop, and you just keep on walking. If you decided to stop at a particular shoppe, that retcons everything which follows that.

As far as landmarks, Magehammer's shoppe is not more than 20 feet from the bubble. The bubbles seem to be at intersections. There's traffic coming from four main directions to and away from it. Going around it, not through it.

So you start walking. You pass Magehammer's shoppe on your left. There's a sign out front of it. "Shovels, Axes, Scythes, Hand tools of all kinds!!!! Swords, Clubs, Knives, Weapons of every description!!!!! Free Blacksmithing lessons with purchase of complete blacksmithing toolkit!!!! And don't forget, they're magical!!!!" The shoppe does indeed have these items and more hanging up on display.

Then you pass Ray's Ray Guns. This time, Ray himself approaches you as you pass. He's dressed and speaks very much like a used car salesman. Speaking rapidly, he says "What kinda ray gun do you want? I got 1 gigawatt, 5 gigawatt, I got proton lasers and phaser rifles, solar powered and hand crank. I got heat rays, freeze rays, you name the ray, you can get it at Ray's Ray Guns!!!!"

Then you come to Mom's Bakery. An elderly woman with three adult sons are making cakes, pies, and other baked goods. One of the sons drops something, and Mom slaps him soundly upside the head saying "Watch it nincompoop!!!" Then she turns around to you and gives you a smile so warm it would melt a glacier.

You pass by a store selling clothing, and another selling electronic devices. Several restaurants and eateries. Any kind of food you can think of. Yes, even that really disgusting sounding one.

Basically, name the shoppe and it's somewhere in this line. For what are you looking at the moment? Specifically??

An eight year old girl walks past you. Long brown hair, tee shirt and jeans. She stops at Mister Magehammer's shoppe. And although you can't hear what they're saying, she hands him a cloth bag bulging with coins, and he hands her a Katana sword. Then she starts coming back towards you, sheathed Katana in hand and walks past you again going the other way.

Later on, you will see her using that katana fighting a Samurai warrior four times her size. But the little girl seems to be winning.

Off in the distance, you also see a ginormous skyscraper. The top extends into the clouds and you cannot see it. That's how tall it is.

Just because I don't want to have to travel without any of my stuff, the first thing I look for is some storage device I can carry on me that will store all of my stuff.

I'd also love a helicopter or flying saucer that will shrink to fit in there so I can travel far and fast when the magic bias is too difficult to teleport.

As for weapons:
I'd like something to freeze or slow time for everyone but me - a freeze ray that doesn't make things cold but slows them down and/or a bomb.

An Order warhammer for my T-800 body if I could use it in that body.

A Gatling gun for the T body

Okay I'm done shopping for now at least. What I get, I get

Yeah, Magehammer hands you a backpack. "It's a four dimensional, infinite storage hypercube. So long as it will fit inside the backpack, you've got unlimited storage."

Which is to say, if it could reasonably fit inside of the backpack, its infinite storage. But no battleships or cars or anything like that.

"Compliments of the house." he says.

Anything larger you own which will not fit in the backpack, he offers you a hand dolly.

"Make sure you bring that back."

No, you're not shopping at all. With what are you planning to pay for them? You were told to go to The Tower to find out how to make money.

I was just telling you, that's in the shoppe. You've got a long time to get stuff. Slow down. Play it. The stuff will still be here.

I mean, really Scord. If I may, that's something you do that really annoys me. You try to get too powerful too fast. Or something.

Slow it down. Enjoy the story!!!!

Can we do that?

You head to The Tower. (There will be plenty of time to look for gear later.)

The Tower is impossibly large. The base extends in a circle, but at the base, you cannot see around it. Looking up, you cannot see the top. According to legend, the first verser who arrived here fell asleep in the middle of a circle. When he awoke, a house had grown up around him. That house expands and gets larger and more complex with every verser who arrives. The current height and dimensions of The Tower are unknown. What is known is that it is in fact constantly expanding.

You go inside. The reception area is staffed with so many people that there is rarely ever a line. You get called up. A young woman in her thirties is across the counter. She smiles warmly and says:

"Hi, my name is Stephanie. How may I help you?"

Looking around, there's all manner of humans and aliens. Vulcans, Klingons, Medieval knights, cavemen, name it. There's a bank of computer terminals where you can look up different things. They're so simple to use, several cavemen, little more advanced than chimpanzees are using them.

Stephanie asks "Do you have any media? Books? Music? Videos? Holonovels? We will pay you to allow us to download those into our Database. The Database contains information from billions upon billions of worlds. We're always eager to upgrade it. To be fair to all versers of all tech levels, due to differences in storage devices, a 45 record containing only two songs is payable in equal value to a hard drive containing 200 songs. They use some kind of algorithm to determine a fair value."

She can't explain it any further, and neither can I.

Stephanie also tells you that you can check into a room in The Tower for free. Food, water, utilities and all of the basics are free. Amenities are charged on a case by case basis.

As far as what's available in The Tower:

To quote Sam Rockwell in the original TMNT movie:

"Anything you guys want, we got it. Anything you want to do, do it. You know what I'm saying? Anything"

What all is on the memory sticks? They're not interested in home movies. What they're after are professional works. Especially variations on popular media. There's over one hundred thirty thousand versions of The Terminator movie.

I'm counting 14 memory sticks and six bibles. Is that correct? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and count that as 20.

She offers you 20 coins of your choice of metal.

quote:

Stephanie looks it up on the database and says "That'll be four hundred billion seventy-five million, three hundred twenty two thousand five hundred and two coins please."

That's not free. One coin each. And you're gonna need a lot more storage.

Plenty of apartments in The Tower. They're 12x24 feet. Small bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and living room are the same. It's like a small, cheap motel room. But there's a food replicator.

20 coins sounds fair.

"So all coins are worth the same regardless of what type of metal or how big they are, or who minted them?"
If so, I get each coin as a different type of metal I don't have yet. No specifics necessary, if you're ok with it I'll record it as 20 coins of different metals.

"Instead of every Bible available, since I can't afford that, what is generally considered by Yahwists to be the best version, and how much is it?"

I pick an apartment to call home for now, and look for someone selling magic potions or whatever to make plants grow to their full size in seconds, minutes or hours.

OOC) My bad!!!

Stephanie explains: "All coins are worth what you and the other party can agree that they're worth. The coins that we give out are about one standard ounce, round and completely blank. To purchase, you would need to give me that many ounces of metal."

Your coins are worth an ounce here. They're just gonna melt them down and resmelt them into what I just described.

OOC) Don't make this any more complicated than it has to be, okay? It's already a challenging world to run.

quote:

So 20 ounces. Gold, silver, platinum, lead, copper, brass, bronze, stainless steel, aluminum. Those are the primary. But any metal you can imagine is precious somewhere and to someone.

quote:
"Instead of every Bible available, since I can't afford that, what is generally considered by Yahwists to be the best version, and how much is it?"

"Ah, you want The Compilation Bible."

And she goes into the back and comes out pushing a wheeled cart with a massive tome which easily must weigh 400 pounds on top of it.

"Some of our best scholars have spent centuries reviewing and studying the various texts and have created this. It's a compilation of what are believed to be the most significant and historically accurate accounts from all of the known copies, based on all available knowledge."

One coin to download it. Another coin to purchase the flash drive with sufficient memory to download it.

quote:

So you're lead to an elevator. You state your apartment number. The world tastes purple, you cease to exist and when the doors open, you're on a different floor. A lighted pathway leads you to your door.

Inside, the apartment is a bed that folds up into the wall, a flat screen monitor of some kind across from that. A chair, a place for clothes and whatnot. A kitchen, bathroom, food replicator.

The monitor can access all information. Do you want to watch all those versions of The Terminator? You can do that. Completely free. You can also look up other versers. You can also examine all of the copies of the bible. Watching it is free. Getting a copy to take with you is what's charged.

You look up potions. You are directed to Karin. She's built a house outside of The Tower. She's middle aged, still attractive.

She asks "What do ya want?"

OOC) You said to grow plants. Don't forget, mentioning a certain plant on this forum is forbidden. I will report it to Oak if you mention it.

It's several (dozen? hundred?) terabytes. Yeah, you need a new flash drive.

The accounts are familiar. The Creation account is, you'd estimate, roughly the length of your entire bible. Instead of a general "On this day God created this" it's more like "At this minute, God created this." It's much more minutia and detailed. Likewise, with the story of Noah. The account takes up roughly the length of an entire bible. It reads more like a diary of what was done when and where. It even explains why the kangaroos weren't found between Mt. Ararat and Australia.

Then of course there's accounts that aren't anywhere in your bible. It should take a few decades to read if you stick your nose to it.

quote:

She says "Buddy, I'm a practitioner of Elemental magic. Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Combining these elements in the right proportions is what you want. For that one, you want earth and water."

And she picks up a handful of dirt, prays over it in a foreign language then pours it into a glass jar. Then she takes a pot of water, prays over it, and pours it into the jar. Shakes it up into mud.

"That oughta do whatcha want. One gold please!"

Karin tells you that you can be affiliated with more than one god or set of gods. So long as the gods themselves don't object. She just happens to know that Yahweh and and the Elementals don't object to each other.

So do you still want to learn to make it?

quote:
After this, I'll go home and look into getting a job, and also look up Chaos Crystal shops, to see if I could start my own Chaos Crystal item store.

GE 24

There is a very popular Chaos Crystal shoppe in The Tower. It's like the McDonald's of the Chaos Crystal shoppes. You're not going to compete with them. Although you might be able to join them.

It's run by a young woman named Carly Rae Jepsen. She's a very powerful Crystal Chaos Mage.

OOC) First off I want to say that I am not nearly as familiar with Elemental magic as I am with Order/Chaos magic. There was a player some years ago named Avahur. I ran him here and on our other forum. If you want to know more about the magic, check out our threads.

IC) Karin says "Earth? Wind? Fire? Water?"

Not really feeling like it's the time to ask a lot of questions. Just go with your gut.

"Frankly,  just want to make plants grow. So, probably Water first and later I'll try to learn Earth."

She makes a finger gun and points it at you, saying "Watereth Sprayeth."

A jet of water similar to the jet of a Super Soaker sprays you in the face.

"Now you try it. Focus your mind on exactly what you want to do."

I focus my mind on a water gun spray of water shooting from the tip of my finger like she just did, making the finger-gun & pointing it at the ground (in case I mess up).

OOC) You didn't say you were saying the words.

It doesn't work.

She scoffs you upside the head and says "You gotta say the words!!!!"

Again, "Watereth Sprayeth."

And she does it again.

Mimicing her motions by instinct, I channel my will and emotions through my voice into the sounds, "Watereth Sprayeth."

In reply to Scord (msg # 40):

Scord, I'm afraid I have very bad news.

Our friend, John, has passed.  More information is in the OOC thread, which is information I got from Oak, so if you desire to ask more, ask him.  I'm sure John would be pleased that you wanted to play his game again as he loved to GM.

Sadly,
Eric.
