Re: Over The River

Gimuld walks along with the others thinking of marking where the gnolls might be on the map. He lets out a sigh when he gets to the outpost. But feeling something is wrong he trys to crouch down in the grass incase of any danger.

I have a really bad feeling about this

Re: Over The River

The party heads down into the river valley with Erdthar in the lead and Quindil following up the rear. As you approach the river bank and peer across you see that it is just a bit further to the Outlook post from the other side of the river.
The river Redrun is wide and fast flowing, at this section it is aprox. 60’wide, there is a ford just up river that would make it very easy to cross. As you look to the river it would be easy for one to get lost in the tranquility of the place, as the water pushes its way downstream it backs up when encountering a boulder causing white rapids to build here and there. The river is loud yet you can hear over its murmur if you listen closely.
On the other side of the river the trail winds up a hill to the Outlook. The Outlook is approx 100’ or so off the river valley, it sets perched between to massive slabs of limestone that jut up out of the earth on either side of the outlook. From here you can see that the Outlook is two stories, the main level with a “birds nest” looking over the valley as the second level.
The tall grass thins out a bit as it moves further from the river and works its way up the hill toward teh outlook.

Swim across river DC: 15, for every round in water take 1d3hp subdual damage.
Ford is about 800' north northwest.

Re: Over The River

At Erdthar's mention of something hiding in the grass, Pello peers across the river as well to try and spot whoever is hiding in the grass. While peering he speaks to the rest "Well, despite any ambush I'd prefer to cross at a place where the water isn't twice my depth. And besides.." the gnome turns his attention from the distant grasses to the close travel companions, and flashes a smile, "It is hardly an ambush when we know there is someone there."

"Unfortunately my mentor didn't allow me access to those spellbooks containing fireball or other such spells of longranged death. I haven't got the faintest idea why.

The result however is that with my current spell selection I'm not able to burn anythin much farther away than 25ft. Of course, if we are lucky we might get that close if the 'ambushers' think that we haven't noticed them."
Pello says, and then brightens into a grin, "Or if anyone has a good throwing grip, I have a few flasks of alchemist fire that we might irritate them with. I guess a good thrower could get a flask across the river."

Re: Over The River

Gimuld thinks about dipping into the river but quikly thinks again once he sees the ford. Just up river there are four massive flat-topped boulders that have been positioned into a make shift bridge or ford.
Quindil can not get an eye on the "noise".

1 square =5'
The brown is a trail, it is there just to show you the way, you do not need to stay on trail.
The green represents the grass (Erdthar let me know if it is too hard to see your token)
Crossing the river is simple and can be done without dificulty in 2 rounds. If you wish to make it across faster then give me 2 Balance checks DC:15 and you might make it in 1 round.

22:17, Today: Erdthar Grimear rolled 13 using 1d20+2. Balance.

Not sure I really need a balance check to cross in one round, as the distance is only 16 squares to solid ground, and I can normally move 20?

So it is an Ambush Round 1

The party sticks with its marching order, sending the tough orc across first. Quindil has a bead on the other side of the river as he watches Erdthar cross.
Erdthar readies himself for the cross, and then in a fluent motion the large orc thrust himself across to the first boulder. He moves with little effort and well placed foot steps, as he approaches the center of the river, the murmur of the river drowns out his hearing.
When about ¾ across(s-6), his concentration is interrupted. From the grass along the bank of the river comes a bolt. The bolt screams across the river nailing Erdthar in the chest(18Hit -5dmg) causing Erdthar to stagger in his steps. The little bugger that shot the bolt dives back into the grass, but not before Quindil gets his eye on him.(he in  p-17)

Erdthar, I need that balance check now, but you can re-roll, call it a freebie. If you pass you are on the other side of the river, if you fail, you in the drink and need to swim.
If you had bows drawn then you can take a shot, otherwise no attack
AC:15

I will update map later I gtg for now.
