As you follow the directions given to you by various goblins, you skirt the edge of the mountains.  There are trials and streams leading from the mountains to the lowlands below, but all trail directly away from the mountains, through the foothills, and into the lowlands below.  No doube to meet with trade roads and rivers, and all must eventually lead back to civilization.

While crossing one small valley, containing both a crisp, bubbling stream and awell-trod path higher up the valley wall, Erdthar stops and raises a hand.  "Goblins, downwind."  He tells Vespian in a low voice, the rest of the party, 100 feet or so behind, sees him raise a hand in signal to stop.

Gimuld looks around but the glare from the sun is bad. While putting his hand to his forehead, he misses and hits his eye. Even though he is momentarily sightless, he still keeps his ears open.

Most of the party hears something along the ridge to the left as you begin descent into a valley with a sparkling, bubbling steam cutting it's way through the center.  Vespian in the lead, notices both that a road, more nearly a trail, winds along generally parallel to the stream, and that there are four goblins trying to be sneaky, watching from where the party generally hears them rustling through the brush.

Gimuld sensing danger, trys to move into the shadows, near Vespian and Erdthar, and brush to be able to leap out of bush in a suprise attack. He spys a spot that looks promising and he makes his way forward.

Spotting the goblins, Pello runs over the spells in his mind, and then doubtfully pulls out his crossbow.

"Now.. let's see if I can remember how to use this.." he mutters to himself and tries to his aim on one of goblins.

"Now what did that instructor say? Place your finger lightly on the trigger."

Pello does the move and suddently sees a bolt flying towards the goblins.

Seeing their hidden position was spotted. The goblins known to the party darted off to the north.
Their quick small green forms blended into the brush, but for the most part, they were in such haste to get away that their movement was obvious.
(G1= 8 hide, G2= 8 hide, G3= 19 hide, G4= 7 hide, anyone trying to keep track make a spot - They were supposed to scatter somewhat - but looks like they paniced here - anyone making the DC8 can see all three in the open)

As attention focused to the north, four more goblins suddenly popped up to the east, across the creek, and threw darts with deadly accuracy over the deep streambed.  Two darts hit Vespian in her shapely chest, but with so little force they fell to the ground, bent and useless without damaging the lively lass.  The proof of her fine chain shirt stopping the force of the small weapons.  (22,19 to hit, -4 for range, both miss).  Erdthar fare even better, the small missles land in the brush nowhere near him. (4,8 to hit, -4 for range, both miss badly)

The Party, for the most part, seemed intent in moving off after the flank force of diminuative foes, to the jeers of the Goblins at the far bank of the stream.

Seeing the new enemies, Vespian runs, 3x Movement to y,45  to where she can engage the other set of Goblins.

Checking his prior action Mukhallad merely trots to a40 and raises a shield spell facing northeast.

Vespian, please make a DC 14 blance going down the slope, and a DC 16 balance to go up the other side, if you fail either, you end your turn in the water at T44

Erdthar, not happy at the goblins firing darts at him, rushes toward the pair to the right, unfortunately, he trips, and falls face first in the cold, shallow stream at the base of the slope.

Seeing their hidden position was spotted. The goblins known to the party darted into the bushes behind them.
Their quick small green forms blended into the brush, but for the most part, they were in such haste to get away that their movement was obvious.
(G1= 8 hide, G2= 8 hide, G3= 19 hide, G4= 7 hide, anyone trying to keep track make a spot - they are scattering somewhat - so indicate in your roll which you are trying to follow)

As attention focused to the north, four more goblins suddenly popped up to the east, across the creek, and threw darts with deadly accuracy over the deep streambed.  Two darts hit Vespian in her shapely chest, but with so little force they fell to the ground, bent and useless without damaging the lively lass.  The proof of her fine chain shirt stopping the force of the small weapons.  (22,19 to hit, -4 for range, both miss).  Erdthar fare even better, the small missles land in the brush nowhere near him.

The Party, for the most part, seemed intent in moving off after the flank force of diminuative foes, to the jeers of the Goblins at the far bank of the stream.
A few tried to close with the missle throwers across the stream, but the steep banks defeated them, Erdthar and Vespian fell, soaked to the skin, into the cold stream.

Pello closed to fire his crossbow with deadly accuracy, but the interviening brush deflected his shot.

The goblin leader, unarmed and cowering helplessly, uses his leather-clad arms to defend himself aganst Gimuld's assualt.

Quindil moves to 36j, and takes a shot at the ugly little critter.

The gnomish mage turns to his charmed companion, "Say, couldn't you explain those guys that messing with us is unhealthy? After all, you've seen what we can do. What do you estimate the chances are that not a single goblin escapes this ambush?"

The goblins at the top of the slope continue to pelt darts at the advancing duo in the water, but the missles land nowhere close.

Quindil shoots a goblin just as it reached the trail, killing it.
Mukhallad moves north up the line clear of brush.
Milo and Pello try to reason with the goblin leader, but their efforts are negated by Gimuld's attack.
Vespian, finally able to pull herself out of the water and up the slope, destroys one of the goblin missle throwers.
Gimuld again trys to attack the goblin leader, and this time his morning star cracks hard into the small being's ribs (22 hit! 6 hp damage to GbL)
Erdthar takes another bath.

The northern cluster of goblins continues their not-so-stealthy retreat away from the archers or possible melee, jumping over the corpse of their companion.

The goblins at the top of the slope fire off more darts, and one hits Vespian in the side!  (22 hit!  3 hp damage against Vespian; 6, 9 against Erdthar)

The Goblin Leader, tired of dodging Gimuld's blows, screams curses at him in goblin, and attacks with his bare hands!
(trys to start grapple, touch attack 19 Hits, grapple check 10:  Gimuld, take an AoO, then beat a 10 to avoid a pin)

Mukhallad starts sprinting now (run to a14. Shield faces north.)

"Banzai!" Pello cries and throws himself at Gimuld, trying to protect his diplomat's life.

"Bug!?  Ack!  get it off!  Get it OFF me!  I hate bugs."  The goblin commander twrils in place, crooking his neck hard over his shoulder to look down his own back, brushing his arms, his torso, and his legs wildly all the while...

Instead of finishing up this round tonight - I'm gonna let Pello and Gimuld roleplay this little scene out a while.

Gimuld, you may have to make that grapple check yet - depending what your small friend Pello does.

Pello shakes his head at the dumbness of the warrior class.

"Well Gimuld, perhaps you should try removing it with your hand, instead of with your morning star. Or learn to cast a ray of frost. No mosquito survives a ray of frost."

Th gnomes notes the fighting still going on over by the river, and asks the goblin leader.

"Say, friend. Could you try and talk to the goblins attacking us? Might save them from a horrible and mutilated death."

"Youse ain't mi frinz."  He declares emphatically, after making certain there are no bugs on him "Youse is mi enme"  he nodded off to the fighting and running goblins "Dem too - dey 'nother tribe, bad goblins.  Me go now!"  With that, he dove into the brush, effectively dissappearing.

Those goblins fighting, or fleeing also took to parts unknown, losing their pursuers.

"And that is why you don't wave away bugs with morning stars." Pello lectures Gimuld as he looks at the spot where the goblin leader disappeared, "It tends to seriously irritate people when you crack their nose trying to remove the fly."
