Re: Cryoden Mine (Adventure Thread)

On the lookout for any nasties that may be about, Quindil drops back to cover the rear.

Quindil Liahstia rolled 9 using 1d20+4. Spot Check.
Quindil Liahstia rolled 8 using 1d20+4. Listen Check.

Unfortunately for the group, Quindil seems more interested to hum a few bars of an elven tune to himself and watch the birds, instead of actually looking for enemies.

Re: Cryoden Mine (Adventure Thread)

The group slowly advances toward the mine entrance, as Erdthar leads them off the side of the trail, as not to make their presence fully known.  Not sure that this is the place the party takes a few moments to discuss the plan of action.
Moving a bit closer up the side of a small hill gives you a better view of the trail leading toward the mine. The trail seems to be clear except for a few wagon trails (ruts formed by the wagons as their heavy wheels grab for traction) leading up and down it. The cave mouth yawns in the distance.
It is getting close to sundown. The air begins to chill as a stiff breeze blows south out of the Rauvin peaks.

Erdthar halts his companions before reaching the mine entrance.  "There is a sentry up ahead." He speaks in a quiet voice, no louder than a whisper.

Re: Cryoden Mine (Adventure Thread)

Erdthar and Quindil halt the party as they scope out an enemy sentry.
With Erdthar pointing out the enemy Vespian and the rest of the party can easily make him out.

The sentry sets on top of a stone spire that juts up out of the ground at a 45 degree angel, it points to the south. The goblin sentry seems unaware as he relaxes in the late day sun. With him he carries a small bow and what seem to be a pile of spears sits next to him on the rock.

Vespian nocks her bow.

OoC:The party is located on the West side of the trail. The goblin sentry is 100'forward and across the trail (120' straight shot to goblin). The spire he sets on has a rock face(20' high) on its south side(DC: 15 climb), yet the north side is a steady climb(DC: 5 Climb) up the slope.

The goblin has not seen you, nor will he see you unless you move. If you move: Hide DC: 6 Move Silent DC: 12

"Bowmen, let us shoot as one." She signals to the other shooters to ready their Bows and Crossbows.

((All that Slope, Tangent, Sign, Co-sign Angle stuff aside. What is my die modifer to make a shot on the sentry?))"

DM: no mods other than Rang Inc. He is 120 feet away, so +1 rang inc for a long bow or +2 for a short bow. +1 for a crossbow

A barage of arrows and bolts fly to their target. The goblin looks to the west just as the arrows find their mark. The arrows sink deep into his flesh as he attempt to signal someone, but he fails. Blood gurgle sfrom his lips as he falss forward off teh cliff face. "Thud Snap" He lands hard on the broken ground below.

Re: Cryoden Mine (Adventure Thread)

At first glance you notice that the goblin wears well worn studded leathers a Morningstar is still strapped to his belt on his left hip. A bandoleer stretches across his chest, it appears to hold crossbow bolts and a brass whistle hangs from his neck.

And for some reason Milo seems to have run of, perhaps he needed a last minute break in the trees.

So do you take the equipment? Do you search him or his guard post?

Equipment: Stud leather(small), Morningstar, Bandoleer, brass whistle

Erdthar takes the equipment, tucking the brass whistle in a vest pocket next to his own signal whistle.  Looking up the sheer cliff face, he wonders,
"I suppose we shold get up there before someone notices our friend here is missing."

OOC:
so how tall is the cliff?  what is the Climb DC?

"Once I'm on top, "the big orc speculates "I could lower a rope and help the rest of you up."  His voice was distracted, his attention more on the cliff face and possible routes to the top.  "Besides, the trail is dangerous, the other guards might be hidden better."

Erdthar ties one end of a rope around his waist, and climbs, solidly, carefully, up to the goblin's old perch.

take 10 on the climb, for a 15 total
