Brattor's Thrall (Adventure Thread II)

Erdthar, Falk and Pello unleash a couple of devastating attacks upon the beast, nearly slashing him apart and flaming him up.

Feeling the devastating blow unleashed upon him the creature quickly realizes that this meal is simply not worth it. It turns and tries to make its way to the North West corridor, heading for the doorway into an adjacent room.

looking beyond into the next room: Dark filled with stone rubble strewn all about the floor, it apears that the north wall of this room has colapsed. It would seem that the Grick was making an escape into the rubble or that which must lay beyound.

Re: Brattor's Thrall (Adventure Thread II)

Got a map, just not how i want it but oh well

Erdthar hacks into the fleeing beast and then steps into the room.

There are a large amount of barrels on racks in the center of this room. The ceilings are about 15' high and the barrel racks go to the ceiling. There is another door near the northwest and the northern wall has completely collapsed, revealing the tunnel beyond and some. As the earth that once set upon the stone walls has collapsed under its own weight.

I dont know why the creature is still on the map, but he is not really there, he is dead.

Quindill looks closer at the barrels. They seem to have at one time been used to store liquid goods. Probably ale or wine.

They all seem to be empty except one. One of them when tapped on lightly with a fingure sounds as if it has something inside it still. The others seem hollow as if whatever was in there some how evaporated.

The team opens the door into the northwest room. A massive amount of dust flies out from the room and the sound of air rushing out of it can be heard.

once the dust settles, peering inside, the room looks as though it has not been touched in centuries. Boxes in the far corner are nicely stacked and there are a few barrles sitting with their tops sealed on. Other than not being touched in a very long time the room seems rather uninteresting.

The rubble pile does not make its way into this room, only out into the hall and beyound where the grick was heading.

Re: Brattor's Thrall (Adventure Thread II)

Quindil carefully heads out into the north hallway. He climbs over a bit of the rubble pile not haveing too much dificulty, but once on it he realizes how dangerous it is, pitfalls everywhere between boulders. The boulders are stacked against eachother into a high pile about 10' high or so for the most part. In between the boulders the dark voids can not be pierced by his vision, giving him a gloomy feeling that something is stalking him from below.

He nearly reaches the edge of the pile, going east, when out of one of the black voids spring four slithering tenticles. The tenticles reach up and grab around Quindil's legs (19,11,19,19 3 hits and a miss) . Each one of them tries to pull him down into the rubble pile.(Strength vs tentacles 11 vs Q's 13, 10 vs Q's 16. 13 vs Q's 9) (damage from fall -1hp)

He fights off the first two tenticles but the third one is strong enough to pull him down into the darkness and out of sight from the others.

The others move closer to the pile to see if they can help get Quindil back.

Quindil: -1hp
Quindill is in the northeast corner of the rubble pile.

Re: Brattor's Thrall (Adventure Thread II)

The group goes about exploring the rest of this level, so far other than a few barrels, some books in the northeast room, and the dead dwarf in the middle of teh floor, nothing seems to be very interesting.

The dead dwarf is a bit of a bother, it is not that old of a body, it wouldnt be a corpse that was here from centuries past, but looks more like an explorer, perhaps from the group that Korenth was with earlier. Korenth, what happened to him anyway, he was probably eaten by a flaming skull or possibly a grick. Vespian has also gone missing for quite some time, the last you remember of her she was checking out an odd scent that she could smell, hopefully she will turn up later.

The group find an exit to the outside, the tunnel that heads west heads on for a while when it comes to a massive set of open wood doors. the group heads to the doors and looks outside to the nights sky. they remiain there for a few minutes enjoying the frewsh air before they decide to get back on with their mission. Find the helm of Brattor, which must be located in the lower levels somewhere.

So the group heads............

The stairway darkens as they head lower; this section of stairway goes on and on for what seems like ever. Finally, guessing you descended over 200’, you reach another room, the stairs still go down from here as well.

Nothing is in this room but the stairs continue down, looking down the lower level from here the stairway is flickering with lights.

The murmering is not understandable, no matter how many launguages one speaks they can not determine what exactly is being said.

But Vespian from her position realizes that something is happening with the murmers, probablly something bad.

The creature that now wears the helm is large, rather large, Sunlight shines down on the shrine lighting up both the room and the hallways.

Whats next? The creature is too busy to notice Vespian at this point, but she has done little more than stick her head around the corner.

Bring it!!!

Quindil and the others move up to Vespian’s position and take a look down the long hallway before them. The hallway starts off to be around 8’ wide but then expands both outward and upward, up so high that no one can make out the actual ceiling. A beautiful rug runs from the doorway to a tomb that is placed in the center of a large room. The tomb in the center is flanked by four large columns that shoot up to an unseen ceiling. Bright sunlight shines down from above.

A large winged creature stands before the tomb, the Helm of Brattor rest upon its head. From here the Helm looks to be quite marvelous, adorned with gems and inlaid with gold.  Long cheek and neck guards sparkling as the sunlight reflects of the inlaid gems.

The creatures stops murmuring as four sets of legs begin to form from its abdomen, a scream comes from the creature and then it yells in a beautiful feminine voice. ”The Thrall is mine!” Then ringing through everyone’s head you hear the same voice, but in a much softer tone ”there is nothing you can do to stop me my dear.” As she rings that statement through your heads she turns and continues to transform. The eight legs reach out of her abdomen followed by a bestial head. Watching in horror you realize that she is not transforming but something is coming out of her, she twist her neck when finally a large eight legged creature screams out at you. There are now two creatures, she has returned to medium size, and she is beautiful, she looks a lot like Vespian, only a bit more beautiful. Her eyes shine green as she smiles and flaps her wings. She points to Vespian as she starts to ascend. ”Sister, you should not have betrayed us, your blood will be a feast for my pet here. And your friends will make lovely slaves in the Abyss. Eternity they will suffer for your betrayal.” It is now obvious that this woman is the same as Vespian. She flaps her wings and takes off upward and out of sight. Leaving her pet to devour you all!

Quindil steps past Vespian and slowly heads into the room. The large beast at first does not seem to take notice of him, when suddenly it turns quickly and proceeds towards Quindil’s location.

The beast rears up snapping its four large claws before it. The snapping of the claws drives straight into Qindil’s nerves, nearly causing him to lose his kool, but he hangs on to it as his sword is drawn.

The succubus woman heads higher to the ceiling as you hear her yell out. ”Kill them, kill them all now, and take them home with you!”

Upon her command the beast responds. Blackened eyes turn colors into a deep transparent blue. They shine for a moment and then suddenly a ray blast forth from the eyes and heads straight for Quindil. The ray barley hits Quindil, but when it does it nearly turns him into ice….. (14 Touch, hits. -28 cold damage reflex 18 for ½)

As the icy ray blast Quindil the woman’s laugh from above echoes through the hall!

Death on wings it would seem.

Quindil takes his chances as he stays in the fight dealing some damage to the large beast. He dodges right and stabs out with his sword. The blade gets past the creatures hard skin, cutting it open a bit.

Pello takes his chances with the winged vixen above him as he reads the last spell from a scroll found earlier in his career. The parchment turns to dust as Pello lifts up into the air. Although, he doesn’t have much control of his movement other than up and down. Up looks ok, but down is looking bad.

The “pet” sees Quindil approaching and lashes out at him with his legs. The first three legs barley misses the elf, but the fourth and final leg hits home, hard. The retriever’s claw pierces into Quindils stomach nearly taking his insides out as the creature pulls back his claw. ( 32 confirmed crit. -20hp) Quindil quivers for a minute as he sees his insides ripped open he then falls to the floor, as he bleeds out.

The retriever after felling Quindil strikes out with its jaw and bites Erdthar near the shoulder. It tries to pick the orc up but Erdthar jerks away from the beast tearing his own flesh with the beast’s mouth. (21 hit, -12 HP) Erdthar reels from the pain as he bleeds badly.

The winged Vixen looks on as Vespian approaches on the wing. She speaks inside Vespian’s head ”My sister I pity you for such weak slaves. They are not to my liking. Perhaps we can bargain a deal?” She smiles as she wiggles her fingers and nose. Vespian starts to feel a bit of an attraction to the evil women. (Cast Charm Monster. Will DC:  20. Veps gets a +5 because of combat. Vesp rolled 25!) Vespian knows that the woman is trying to turn her, but Vespian can do nothing but smile as the wicked women screams out. ”You and your slaves will die!”

Falk ignores the orders that he was given from the winged witch as he moves forward and curses at the large beast. The curse works and may even be that which saves Quindil and Erdthar, time will tell.

Vespian keeps the evil vixens spell at bay and is not affected. She closes the distance between the two and she will be face to face with the creature within seconds, make that milliseconds

Erdthar’s eyes turn red as he has nearly bled out, but the orc stops at nothing but victory. He swings and strikes the beast before him shredding upon the tough hide. Erdthar roars as the beast staggers back, it is not dead yet, but it just got a big hurting.

OoC: Way to blast erd! And good luck Vesp had on the save throw. Things are looking better, well not for quin.

Succubus: -19 hp
Retriever: dead

Poor poor Quindil lies nearly motionlessly upon the floor. He has some hope as he is breathing, but not very well. Someone needs to do something for the poor guy.

Pello tries his beast to help out the downed elf. He launches one of his toasty fireballs behind the large retriever. The blast hits the creature hard and with its big form it is unable to get out of the way. Erdthar feels the heat but is not damaged by the fireball in anyway.

The retriever goes after Erdthar it swings with its four claws, but only one of the pinchers can connect. (15 hit -15hp)

The succubus lashes out again at Vespian, this time her claws both miss and she hisses through the helm ”you will die my dear!”

Falk cast a spell upon Erdthar that boost his strength and stamina.

Vespian slashes into the vixen woman with her sword and cuts her across the face, the two ladies have nearly matching scars. The sword knocks the helm loose and it plummets to the ground 100’ below.

The vixen woman screams ”NO….. not the Thrall. You have no business with that kind of power, it will destroy you if I don’t first!” He claws raise as she readies to slash Vespian apart.

The helm falls to the floor with a loud clunk as it does so a deep voice rings through the halls ”Sons of Moradin! A lass you have shown yourselves. My eyes are no open and I can see, blast that demon to the hells I say! Blast them now I say!” The voice comes from all over the hall as if it is the hall itself speaking.

As the voice rings, the retriever beast shudders and then visibly shrinks to a much smaller size.

Erdthar in a rage cuts loose on the now smaller beast. His axes cuts deep into the beast and cuts it in half dropping it to the floor in a pile of ashes.

The only threats left in the room are the flying vixen and this unknown voice.

Re: round 4

Quindil turns around and walks away from the light.  As his spirit re-enters his body, he takes time to note how much more peaceful it was being mostly dead rather than coughing up blood.

Re: round 4

Quindil: 22  -48 hp Down!
Pello: 21
Enemy: 19
Falk: 14
Vespian: 13 -13hp
Erdthar: 11 -44 hp (20 temp HP, +4 con from Falk and +4rage)

Succubus: -28 hp
Retriever: dead

Pello snatches up the Helm and heads for the door.

The winged Vixen slashes out at Vespian but both of her claws miss, angering her. "Im not done with you yet, sister."

Falk runs over and heals a few of Quindil's wounds.

Vespian smacks the Vixen and knocks her around a bit as she taunts. After being hit the Vixen scowls at Vespian "We will meet again, I promise!" With that she snaps her fingures and vanishes.

Erdthar continues to enjoy the view.

Re: round 4

Pello's trot to the exit slows, and then comes to a halt, as all enemies turns out to have disappeared. Digging into his bags, he pulls out a wand, and tosses it to Falk.

"Alright, let's get those wounds healed up, and get the hells out of here. I've got the helm, and I'm sure there's an ale house in Felbar that's calling for me."

OOC: That's the loot pool's Wand O'Cure Light with 27 charged left in it.

Re: Done!!

The group gets themselves outside of the halls without incident. Deciding to go out the top level higher up on the mountain instead of heading back down through the lower levels of the keep. The journey from here will lead you back to Jalanthar, unless you decide to tackle the mountain and go over it back to Sundabar. Although, that would cut out your contact in Jalanthar, Zornun The Warty Magician, who may have a means of getting you back to Felbarr to meet up with Dunbar Gemaxe.

The choice is at hand, Which way to go?

Re: Done!!

The group heads down the mountain and back to jalanthar.

The travel down is much easier than the travel you all head going up. The decent down shadow falls was a bit interesting but went off without too much issue.

After the falls the travel through the valley was nice. Nothing too exciting other than the spotting of a few deer. Although, the adventurers were a bit on edge as the last time the came through here they encountered an odd fey creature. But they make it all most all the way to Horse shoe ridge when they decide to camp for the night.

Camp was nice and the next day you all set out to Jalanthar.

You have now arrived at the river port city of Jalanthar, a small little town

"Hmm.. ya.." Pello replies, somewhat nervously, as he suddenly feels foreboding and betrayal in the air as well. No, probably just a trick of his mind.

Summoning up his usual indomitable spirit, he walks up to Zornun.

"We're back!"

Jalanthar

Zornun seems to be in a dispute with one of the river traders. The river trader looks a lot like the barkeep Baughzwerth back in Sundabar, but it is not him.

When Pello calls out Zornun turns around quickly. With his spectacles low on his nose he looks over the group. He looks a bit perplexed. He then looks down to Pello, ”I see that you are back, but for what.” He then turns back to the goat like man and shouts out some orders that no one in the group understands. He then glances back down at Pello and look the gnome over for a min in silence. Suddenly his eyes light up when he realizes who you all are. ”Oh heavens ta Betsy, you’ve made it back.” he holds his finger to his lips as to make the motion of silence. ”Well, let us head back to my place for drinks, it’s been a while since I seen you lads.”

You travel back to his small cabin along the hill side where the chimney smokes.
He leads you into an area that is much larger than the outside of the cabin appears a grand place actually with stone pillars and high ceilings.

His servant brings out some bottles of wine and glasses for everyone. Zornun motions to the table. ”Come, sit, and tell me of your adventure.”

Re: Jalanthar

Grabbing a glass of wine, Pello beams "Oh yes, let me tell you all about it. The first part of the adventure happened on the very night after we had left time. Fey had surrounded the camp! And I stalked into the darkness to take care of them.."

Ten minutes later..

"And so I summoned magical power into my staff, through it into the sky, and knocked one of the thunderbirds straight out of the air.."

Twenty minutes later..

"And so I said, I ain't afraid of no ghost.."

Twenty minutes later..

"And while our own personal angel beat upon the succubus up high, I grabbed the helmet from under the feet of the massive demonic monster. Then Erdthar let loose, and with massive chops of his axe split it clean in half, sending it screaming back to the abyss! The succubus fled our righteous fury, and we made our way through the fortress to the surface, while it crumbled to pieces around us. Advancing out of the entrance, the full moon was hanging above us, and stars sprinkled the sky, and we knew that we had accomplished our task in the best way it could possibly be."

Pello peers into a bottle, and pours the last of the wine into his glass

"The trip back was really boring compared to it. Though I still think stairs would be a massive improvement."

Zornun looks on. "That is a great tail! Good to hear of your success. We should waste no time in getting that rturned to the Gemaxe." He shuffles through some papers.

"Ahh yes, here are your travel vouchers. An airship will arrive from the south tomorrow morning. You will catch the ship and they will quickly take you back up to Felbar, where you can return the helm.

It was a pleaseure working with you, may our paths cross again in the future."
