Problems with Private Lines

Since the site has been updated, I have been unable to put private lines in posts. I go to the dropdown box where I can select the character/GM I want to address it to, but I no longer get the pop-up box to input text like I once did.

Will it work if I just add the code manually (brackets and then the name of the person/character to be PLed?)

Re: Problems with Private Lines

It should, I've done it in the past. This is one of those things you should rMail the mods about.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

Also, please be sure you use a forced refresh to get the latest javascript from the site into your browser's stubborn brain.

Your browser may vary in how it does a forced refresh.  Popular methods are:
  • Hold down the shift key while clicking "Reload" or "Refresh" on your browser.
  • Hold down the control key while clicking the "reload" or "refresh" on your browser.
  • Hold down the shift key while pressing the F5 key on your keyboard.
  • Hold down the control key while pressing the F5 key on your keyboard.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

The forced refresh fixed it! Thanks. :)

I was afraid that it had something to do with me using Mozilla. I'm glad that's not the case, because I loathe using IE.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

I'm having a different PL problem. I can enter the PLs just fine, and can see them as GM. But the designated players can't seem to see all of them.

I put a PL when some chars made their spot/listen checks (D&D3.5), but they didn't respond to it. I finally sent them a PM, which enabled them to respond.

Since I can't tell what the players are seeing, I sent some PLs in our OOC thread w/ character rewards for responding to particular PLs. The players responded to SOME, but NOT ALL the PLs.

To see what I mean, please see the OOC Thread on:
link to "The Crystal Shards (DnD 3.5)"
It has my PL syntax and players' responses.

Also, real quick, I just wanted to verify that there's an access level ABOVE GM. I'm a co-GM and can't seem to activate the Players Wanted flag.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

The Access level Above GM is just the Primary GM, only the Primary can do the real 'key' things of the games. ^_^

Re: Problems with Private Lines

Note that the proper syntax for private lines to multiple persons is:

[Private to Recipient 1; Recipient 2; Final Recipient: text of private line...]

(Semicolons must separate multiple recipients; a colon must end the list.  If a recipient's name is not spelled properly, the PM will not be visible to them.)

In Post #720 of that OOC thread, your first PL should be seen by all recipients.  Your second will not be, as its syntax is incorrect (it would only work if there were one character named "Arayl Adotumal, Arynwen, Kaede Fenrie, Laura, Yarrow" in the game).

So, your players should each see line D and line W, but none will be able to see line M.

As for the Requesting Players flag, only the game owner can change the details in the "Edit Game Details" area.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

I've had a problem with players being able to read other's PL's.  And it happened more than once.  I can't see a problem with my syntax, so I wonder if it is working properly.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

If you want someone to check it out, please rMail me a link to the thread, and let me know which post # I'll be looking at and who else could see the PL when they weren't supposed to.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

I have a problem with private lines to multiple recipients. From time to time (not alway), when I try to include such a line in a post, the browser gives an Alert, and immediately crashes. I am using Netscape navigator 9 on a Mac 10.4.10.

Re: Problems with Private Lines

Your problem there is Netscape, that browser isn't supposed to work on 10.4. (And I can't imagine why you'd want to use it at all.) You'll need to switch to Safari, Firefox or Camino.

You're on Tiger dude, use Safari 3.
