Avatars show up on phone, but not on desktop computer

Pretty much what the title says.  The various game avatars in the games I'm playing don't show when I'm viewing them on my home desktop computer, but they do show up when viewing those games on my phone.

(and yes, my User Preferences does have the View Portraits option clicked on)

Any advice?  Is this a cookie thing, and if so how do I change it (feel free to assume I'm an idiot and use small words to explain it to me)?

Edit: I'm using Avast as my browser, if that makes any difference.

Is the picture showing up as "broken" or is it just gone?

If it's the latter, because you're using a privacy/security focused browser, it may very well not display them due to them being on (I believe) a different server.

If there's a "safe list" or exception list or something, you might try adding RPoL, and the servers the images are hosted on, to that and see if there's a change.

Female portraits are hosted on http://rpol.creativelass.net/

Male portraits are hosted on http://rpolportraits.shannara-rose.com/

It's the "Who is this masked person? Sorry, image not available." pic that shows up in lieu of the various avatars.

Will try to visit the two sites you listed, and go from there.  Thanks.

Edit: the latter link lets me view the index of images, but the former gives me a 'Hey! Don't do that!' message and tells me I'm being cheeky for attempting to do so. ;-)

Re: Avatars show up on phone, but not on desktop computer

Okay, if I right-click on a game page and then click 'Inspect', it gives me a list of blocked images - the male characters will show up after I click on the links for them, but attempting to do so for the female characters get me a "Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID" message.

Re: Avatars show up on phone, but not on desktop computer

A quick look at the FAQs --> View RPoL Information shows that one of the portrait servers is currently offline.  That might be the cause of the error message (and the lack of portraits).  Although, oddly enough, I can see all portraits, with no issues.

Re: Avatars show up on phone, but not on desktop computer

I've had a problem for several months that I cannot see 2/3rds of the portraits while I'm on Chrome.  Internet Explorer, no problem, Chrome though is no dice.  It's very frustrating, because I'm not a big fan of IE, but it's more annoying to not be able to see people's portraits.

Re: Avatars show up on phone, but not on desktop computer

I can view the avatars normally with both Chrome (on my phone) and Firefox, my alternate browser on my desktop computer.  The issue seems to be with how Avast, my preferred browser on my desktop, seems to be interacting with the female portrait servers.

I think one of the portrait servers is always showing offline now, whether it is or not.

Re: Avatars show up on phone, but not on desktop computer

Isida KepTukari - Chrome has settings to show all images or block/allow specific sites:

Settings | Advanced | Privacy & Security | Site Settings | Images

Might be worth checking, and adding the problem portraits site (or both of them) to the Allowed list anyway to see if it helps.

Alternatively, clearing all Chrome temp files might do the trick if it's cached the offline image when the server was down at some point and is showing that now rather than going looking for the right version.

Knightsky - you could see if Avast has similar image viewing controls ?
