While by no means a large man, Isawa Shema is nonetheless rather large for a Phoenix, though he carries himself with grace.  His dark crimson robes are always kept in good order.  The Phoenix mon's soaring emblem is large and golden on his back, while the five petal Isawa mon adorns his left sleeve.  At his belt hangs a scroll case, as well as a wakizashi emblazoned with the Tsunami Legion emblem.

Shema is quite proficient in the healing arts and if the wakizashi at his belt is to be believed, magical combat.  He has a fairly diverse scholarly experience, but his studies have come at the cost of some of the social skill that other samurai often exhibit.
