The Black Caps are what Marienburg calls their town watchmen. They are well organized as a guild in the city and are also responcible for the lighting of the street lamps throughout the city.

They are mostly made up of humans but there ae a few dwarves and halflings mixed in. They are easily distiguishable by their shinny copper badges of office and their floppy black hats. One in three will be carring a crossbow and one in three will have a lantern on a large pole. They do not normally carry lethal weapons but few underestimate their ability to wield their trusty three feet of hardwood.

Typically there is a 3 man patrol in safe areas and as many as 10 in more dangerous areas such as the Rack.
