Aurokh the Dragon

In his natural form, Aurokh is a majestic and fearsome beast, standing some 18 feet tall and about 70 from snout to tail, with a comparable wingspan. He is massive, stocky and muscular, with dagger teeth that can snap an armoured man in half, claws that can tear through a castle's gates, a powerful tail and sharp horns rising from his crested skull. He speaks in a deep, rich, thunderous voice, and radiates heat from the mystical furnace that burns in his soul. His scarlet and gold flames can liquify steel and char flesh from the bone. Bronze scales slashed with verdegris stripes cover his body like tenfold shields, making a smooth metallic rasping sound as he moves. His eyes are like two polished turquoise stones, deep and warm and wise.

Aurokh was one of the youngest dragons of the council of men and wyrms that formed the Order of the Flame - a mere 500 years old. Aggressive and ambitious, he was partnered with a similarly dynamic human Dragon Knight named Valerian, and together they flew at the vanguard of many quests and crusades, leading the fight against demons, monsters, warmongers, brigands, and other enemies of the land.

Eventually, the Order of the Flame was so successful that all their foes were vanquished, and an era of peace and prosperity dawned in the land. Unfortunately, some of the bold young warriors of the Order, Valerian and Aurokh amongst them had grown used to the excitement and glory of war, and strife began to foment within their ranks as they sought new battles to fight. So that the good the dragons and knights had done would not be broken by their own aggression, it was decided that the Order should be dissolved, and its members would retire to peaceful lives if human - and enter a slumber of eons if draconic.

That was some 300 years ago, and the Order of the Flame, the Dragon Knights and their mighty scaled steeds have faded into legend. The lineages of the Dragon Knights have gradually faded out for the most part, and these days few even remember their distinctive platinum hair.
