Allan was the eldest son of a large, Catholic family. He went through a wild phase in his youth that involved a lot of partying, a fair amount of alcohol, and more than a few women. Like the Prodigal Son, Allan eventually found his way back and made his mother very proud when he decided to join the priesthood.

He became the associate pastor of his family's church. Allan was also the director of the campus Newman Center at a local college, where he would conduct mass and minster to the college students. He was young, charismatic, and handsome. Many of the college girls had a crush on him, but Allan was never tempted to break his vows. Church guidelines were a different matter. Allan was considered a bit radical and outspoken, something that made him popular with the students but occasionally got him into trouble with church elders. Despite Allan's tendency to push against the church's boundaries, he proved to be an effective priest. Adults liked his enthusiasm and charm, while young people found him easier to relate to than the older pastors.

An active outdoors-man, Allan enjoyed taking students hiking and camping. They would spend the day getting close to nature. In the evening they would sit around a campfire for bible study and worship. Allan actually felt closer to God in the wilderness then he did inside a church.

His world changed the day an attractive, young student came into his life. Allan seemed drawn to Xynthia and it wasn't long before others noticed that he had taken a special interest in her. Xynthia was smart with a vibrant personality, but she also had a history of mental problems. Allan was cautioned by the senior pastor about a relationship that was beginning to appear inappropriate, but Allan wanted to help Xynthia. Allan may not have broken any vows, but as far as the church was concerned, he had finally stepped over one too many boundaries. He was pressured into leaving the priesthood.

Allan's relationship with Xynthia was a bit scandalous. Not only was he a priest when they met, but she was also more than ten years younger than him. Rumors circulated that Allan was taking advantage of a troubled young woman and that he pursued Xynthia for her money. His family felt disgraced by the situation. His father's last words to him were, "Thank God your mother isn't alive to see this". Allan's had no further contact with his family.

To get away from the gossip, Allan and Xynthia decided to hike the entire Appalachian Trail together. It was a six month journey, from May until November. He proposed to her halfway through the trip. They eloped shortly thereafter and spent their honeymoon hiking the rest of the trail.

When they returned home, Allan and Xynthia connected with others who felt disenfranchised from their churches for various reasons. What began as bible study sessions in their home, soon turned into small worship services. As the group grew, they raised funds to take over an old, abandoned church just outside of town. Allan's congregation is considered a fringe church that isn't officially recognized or sanctioned by the Catholic church, but Allan prefers it that way. His church celebrates diversity and welcomes people from all walks of life.
