Miroslav is a bold warrior from the lands of the Rus'. He originally headed south 10 years earlier with a band of Varangians hired to aid Emperor Nikephoros II in seizing Crete from the Muslims. He has served on and off in the Varangian guard since then, even under the new Emperor John I.

He is a broad shouldered brown haired bear of a man...not terribly tall but exceptionally stout. He wears scale armorand carries are large single bladed battle axe in the fashion of the Northmen he traveled south with.

Despite his looks, Miroslav is as much of a thinker as he is a fighter. He knows that the current state of affairs between his adopted home of Byzantium and his birth home of Kiev is volatile so he does his best to keep his nose clean and mind his own business. Being a Rus' in a time when raids from the north were getting more and more frequent could lead to suspicion and worse in the semi-paranoid empire of Byzantium.

He is a heathen like most of the Slavs of this period. While a few have turned to Christianity he still wears a small bronze axe pendant around his neck to honor his patron God, Perun...Slavic lord of storms and war.
