Father is killed in a car crash shortly after John joins the British Parachute Regiment ( Rapid deployment force) straight from school age 17.

He serves with, Number Two Regiment for 4 years.

During this time John starts a course with the open university in linguistics
David earns his first Stripe and the notice of his officer as a tough no nonsense professional where ever and what ever he is tasked to do.
At the end 2nd year of service David is promoted to Corporal and Detached to Pathfinder duty.

Completion of training saw his rank confirmed and he was assigned to the anti terrorist section 22nd SAS.
His travels took him across the world, fighting training, quietly working.

John is seconded to Japan to work and train along side their home defence forces.
He quickly realises a liking for the way of life and the codes that are so ingrained into a culture, far older than his.
He studies hard and by the end his Japanese is well above normal usage
