Background/History:A physicist, John Gordon designed a bonding process that created a lighter alloy for use in airplanes (20% lighter, 10% stronger).  Boeing bought the patent and he lives in Portland so that he could advise them if needed but far enough that he is not working every day for them (even though they offer him a job every month)

Personality/Motivation: Techno geek, wants to explore space but with his own rules, not some big organization.
