The Office of Mining Affairs in Deadwood is run by a slick-talking lawyer names Joseph Bearclaw. He was taken from his tribe as a young man and forcibly educated in the white man's ways Back East. Most of the Lakota only tolerate him because his knowledge of US mining laws keeps the money rolling in from the Black Hills. Many still don't trust him as far as they can throw him. Still, he's the man to see if you want to go prospecting or stake a claim in the Black Hills.
