Elaine is a handsome but severe woman of middle years and is one of the few "respectable" women in Deadwood. She maintains a boarding house on Lee Street near Empire Bakery. She dresses to impress, though the mud and general filth of Deadwood tend to make even her clothing seem somewhat shabby and soiled after a time.
