Nikolaas von Richtgraf is a man of fairly unremarkable appearance, perhaps as old as thirty; his black hair is medium length and worn loose as often as it is tied back and his eyes are a grey blue. His jaw is square and set, often sprouting a few days worth of beard, and his expression seems permanently fixed into a look of weariness; his face is creased near the eyes and forehead owing to a lifetime of disappointed scowling. If he could be said to have a striking characteristic, it would be the thin, pink scar tracing itself horizontally across his face from one cheekbone, across the bridge of his nose, and ending on the other cheekbone.

He dresses in simple black leathers that have obviously been mended several times over the years, but were perhaps quite fine at one point in their history. At his hip is buckled a common soldier's broadsword, and opposite from that is hung a much-nicked and battered buckler, equally as unimpressive. The only adornment on the weapons or outfit is a dog's skull patch worn over the left breast, highly faded but obviously cleaned and restitched from time to time.

From top to bottom Nikolaas has the look of a man that has survived many bouts of bad luck, and his dour personality seems to bear that impression across.
