Grigory is a low-class individual. Some people don't especially like him because of that. Others see past that, and learn that there are other things not to like beneath the surface.

Grigory was a rat catcher in Nuln during his teen years. It seemed like an easy way for an orphan to make the coppers needed to buy bread and beer. This gave him an excellent sense of the geography of the sewers, which gave him an excellent sense of how to get into rich people's houses.

Then larger things started to show up in the sewers. The rats started fighting back, and wielding weapons. At first Grigory tried to warn the people of Nuln about the growing threat below their feet, but they disregarded him and suspected he was just telling stories to get drinks bought for him. Grigory started to arm himself more heavily when he went down into the sewers, and eventually got a reputation for being completely paranoid about the rats in the sewers. To flee the accusations (and the rats!), Grigory joined up with a series of caravans that travel as far from Nuln as he can find.
