Gwyn is a man little more than 30 years, but has about him a natural authority. Although he dresses in simple clothes, he never looks like anyone else in the villages he passes through. It is not just the way he sweeps his cloak over one shoulder, revealing his belt and the handle of his sword, nor is it that his hair is longer than any villager's. It is almost down to his shoulders and he ties some of it in a thong to keep it from swaying over his eyes. The immediate impression that one might get from his hair style is that he had tied up some of his hair to keep it from getting into his vision during combat. It is the bearing of Gwyn that is so different, the way he moves and holds himself that sets him apart from ordinary travelers. The distinct impression is that Gwyn is a warrior, and one capable of wreaking great devastation when he wishes it.

Although he is clearly capable as a warrior, Gwyn has made his living as a farmer, a carpenter, a woodcutter. He is a humble and gentle man and he has become something of a leader among the refugees.
