Aegar Targaryen

Aegar's name is one that invokes a mixture of fear, hatred and awe. Now in his mid forties, the so-called Stone Dragon has fought in dozens of battles, and has claimed hundreds of lives atop his loyal, wild mount Morkhuul.

He is a tall and imposing man, at nearly six and a half-feet tall. He seems to have inherited the sturdy bloodline of the males of his mother's Arryn bloodline, and is thickly built. This firm, unyielding stature, as well as his cold cruelty and Arryn heritage, have given him the nickname the 'Stone Dragon.'

He has a thick silvery beard, and short silvery hair that is just now starting to bald and thin. He wears a crown of dark steel and gleaming red rubies, and wields the legendary sword Blackfyre.

Aegar dresses simply, usually in a sturdy gambeson suitable for riding and combat, and he almost always wears a set of chainmail, even at court or at feasts. When outside of the capital or upon his dragon, he is usually clad in a set of resplendent, fearsome red and black plate armor.

He was born as the second son of Naeros Targaryen: his elder brother was named Naekon, who was expected to take the throne. Naekon was a beloved scholar and tactician, whose brilliant mind had helped end revolts before they got out of hand, and the people looked forward to having him as their king.

Those hopes were dashed, however, in the hours following Naeros' death. Before his father's body was cold, Naekon went to the feared dragon Morkhuul, to claim the great beast.

Morkhuul then bit the uncrowned king in half.

Aegar than calmly strolled out towards Morkhuul, stepping over his brother's mangled corpse. Morkhuul bowed, and Aegar claimed the dragon, and the throne.

His reign was beset with many difficulties: rebellions by the Faith, rogue Ironborn reavers, pirate attacks, Dornish raids and an assassination attempt during his wedding feast. He weathered them all, putting down raids, revolts and feeding his would-be assassins to his dragon.

His rule has given him a ghastly reputation, and there are constant whispers of further revolts and assassination attempts. Despite that, Aegar maintains his stoic, stern attitude, and brutally dispenses justice to ensure his rule continues.
