Gareth Arryn

Gareth, a little shorter than average for a man, has curly dark blonde hair and handsome features. He wears very traditional colours and clothing styles, in keeping with the traditions of the Vale, and shows little interest in anything too flashy, much unlike his sister.

The young man took the former throne only six months ago, after the death of his father, Roland, during a hunt. It had been a sudden, unpredictable accident: the man's horse had tripped and sent him sailing into a tree. His neck had been broken instantly. Gareth had witnessed the tragedy and for a few days was said to barely speak. His mother Myriam, however, took it much harder. She and Roland had been very close, and two days later she took her own life.

The second tragedy seemed to snap Gareth out of his stupor and he quickly took control, restoring order and reassuring the people that the Vale was in safe hands. He had commissioned a grand sculpture of his parents for the main courtyard, to commemorate their achievements and their love.

Unlike many young man, Gareth is not particularly wild or lustful; he has a keen sense of duty and prefers to act methodically, with ample research. Yet, seemingly paradoxically, he can be quite rash in the heat of an unexpected moment. He is a man who feels he has much to prove to his people and also to himself.
