Leyla, The Forest of Witches

Nation Name: Leyla, The Forest of Witches
Nation Leader: Leylan Cadabra, The Witch King

Dominant Race: Witches (Uses Elf racial mechanics)

Arcane, Twilight, Faerie, Dynasty, Specialist (Herbalism & Magic Potions)

Holdings: Conflux, Greenleaf, Feywing

Witches have some mildly unusual features compared to normal humans like some have abnormally colored hair and eyes and so on but otherwise are human in appearance and are not true elves, but mechanically have the racial traits of Elves instead of humans. The strange blend of Arcane and Natural Leyline energy that these people research and tap into suffuses their lives so much it's begun to actually change what were once normal humans into something a little different, so their fecundity has decreased while their magical aptitude and affinity for their environment has increased.

Nation Summary: The Forest of Witches, as a nation, was founded some time ago by its seemingly immortal Witch King Leylan Cadabra. The man is the very first person to truly master the lore of Leylines, a term for the usually-hidden lines of power that lace our world like a mystical lattice. He's actually the one who first coined the term "Leyline" after his own name, although some other popular magic-related things can be traced back to him as well. Like the saying "Abra Cadabra" was inspired by his last name, among other things. But the man somehow keeps on living, and seemingly without being undead or having the boon of a god. The world will never know that the truth is that the leylines themselves sustain Leylan, for such is his prodigious magical talent, but he isn't talking and is coy and dismissive when asked about the subject.

As the for nation itself...well, it's more or less how it sounds. It's a nation ruled by witches that are descendants of Leylan Cadabra himself that live in a magical forest. More-or-less, anyway.

Mind you, the term "witch" here is a loose one; witches can be male or female, a Witch is actually a racial subspecies of magical human rather than a type of magic user, and the nation of Leyla has multiple types of magical talent within it that is not strictly confined to just the dynastic house of the Nation. However, the dynastic House to this day still generates magical prodigies (although none approach the Witch King in power but he's an exception not the rule), and their presence in the nation is important enough where one could call it a feature at this point.

The place is fairly cosmopolitan as far as how its own citizens conduct themselves, with witches flying around on brooms or wizards doing cantrips to entertain local children and other such sights being not uncommon. Magic suffuses the daily lives of the people here, and even the residents of the Nation with little magic to speak of sometimes have a fairy companion or otherwise find their daily lives touched by the esoteric and mystical. And the country, while mysterious to most outsiders, is known for its superb herbalists and potion makers, and even their purely mundane herbal products compete strongly with the best apothecaries and pharmacies of normal cities. For the people have, broadly speaking, a special tie to the land both mundane and otherwise. For their studies of leylines revealed a special middle ground between the purely arcane and the more fae natural energy of the land, and the Witches here are unlike other magic users in other parts of the world for sure.
