Grobbik Feexle

Grobbik is a male goblin with light green skin and black eyes.  He has large pointy ears that come off his head at an angle, a pug nose, and straighter-than-usual teeth.  His scruffy black hair is usually slicked back with some sort of scented oil, and he likes to be clean.

Grobbik Feezle is a little smarter and a little faster than the average goblin.  That was quickly apparent to his mother when he was a young child in the port of Azer.  His father, Yezzix, was often out to sea as he made his living as a sailor.  Grobbik did well in school, and learned his letters and words quickly.  Both of his parents looked forward to him being very successful as an adult.  Grobbik, for himself, never could decide what he wanted to do.

Grobbik was exposed to many different careers as a budding adult.  His father was away for long stretches of time, which left the family very lonely.  Early on Yezzix and Pilyx developed something of an open relationship.  While Yezzix was in port Pilyx was faithful to him, but their unwritten agreement was that she could tarry with other men while he was away.  That exposed Grobbik to many different careers as his mother spent time with various gentleman callers.

During his teenage years, Grobbik spent time as a merchant's apprentice, fisherman, and dock hand.  When he was old enough, his father even took him on a voyage or two to teach him the trade.  Yezzix was the first mate on his ship, the Calypso, and often spent time at the help of the long-keeled galleon.  Grobbik often worked as a deckhand scrubbing the decks, and even peeling the barnacles off of her hull in port.

When Grobbik turned 17, one of Pilyx' associates turned out to be a hedge wizard by the name of Kaald.  After being pestered for more than a week about magic spells, he offered to teach Grobbik a fire spell to pass the time.  There is some debate about whether Kaald chose something too hard on purpose to teach the goblin a lesson, or whether it was a simply poor judgement.  Irregardless, to no one's surprise, he failed to learn the spell even after several tries.  In fact, Grobbik's attempt to cast the spell resulted in a minor explosion of blue fire, which burned his arms badly and nearly set their whole home on fire.  Grobbik was much more careful around fire after that incident.

However, Grobbik was still curious about magic.  He felt something during the incident and it piqued his curiosity that much more.  It took a couple weeks for the incident to blow over, and Pilyx made Kaald promise to teach Grobbik a safer spell.  However, in the end he decided to try something from the water college, since Grobbik was so comfortable at sea.  Kaald and Pilyx were astounded when Grobbik started casting the spell with regularity by the end of the day.

A week later, when Yezzix came home, he and Pilyx had a long discussion behind closed doors.  It was rare for this to happen, and Grobbik was sure he was in trouble over the whole incident.  Lo and behold, he started at the Templar College of Battle Magic two days later, on the strength of Kaald's recommendation.  When he displayed the ability to cast a water spell with 1 day's training, he was accepted to the Water college on the spot.  Since then Grobbik has been working on the spells that come to him easily, although he has not as yet tried any of the other colleges.

At this point in time, Grobbik has just returned from a 2 week school break, which he spent with his dad Yezzix on board the Calypso.  Even though he was only 18, everyone on board knew him and his ability to manipulate water magic.  Several times the spells he was able to weave were very helpful to the crew, which included swabbing the deck with manipulated water and cleaning their clothes with his water jets.  In fact, he was invited back any time.  A ship that didn't have to carry fresh water for the crew could carry more goods in it's hold.
