At 16 years old (4 years into his apprenticeship), Merl already stands taller than most grown men ... at a height of nearly 7 foot.
He is muscular and athletic, and has obviously spent most of his childhood in the wild parts of the world, as can be gathered from his rugged, calloused body.
At his joints and curves (shoulders, elbows, knees, and a little along the jawline), boney deposits seem to grow from the skin, resembling stoney outcrops.
Merl has the 'Giants Blood' Virtue; with a physical Presence, Strength and Stamina +2. He stands just shy of 6'10", and weights akin to a small horse.
His orange-brown eyes stare out from a long face, framed by thick black hair.

His skin does seem somewhat pale, however.  And at first appearance, he looks like a good-natured "big, dumb lug".

He does have a light, friendly demeanour about him, though ... and seems the good natured type.
And if the old proverbs hold any truth, he has a good heart, for animals seem to react to him in a fantastic manner.

Although congenial, he is the quiet type, with a still tongue and a pleasent smile.
