zzBattalion (Out)

Jerome John Hooper, better known as "J.J.", a.k.a. the hero Battalion.

Jerome isn't much to look at.  He's a little on the short side, out of shape and has a receding hairline.  He's quick to smile, however, and even quicker to get mouthy.  He makes no bones about his past, dismissing it with a smug smile.  If he feels you're getting judgy about it, however, he tends to get indignant.

His past?  Well, what's more well-known about him than his current title is that he used to be the supervillian "Horde".

Horde came into the media's spotlight years ago when his army of duplicates, disguised as FEMA relief troops, stole a large number of supply trucks and ransomed them to hurricane victims.  He then led a successful string of bank heists.  Though his duplicates were 'arrested' in great numbers, it took several tries to catch the actual Horde.  Eventually it did happen and he wound up with 20-years to life.

Based on his good behavior and his (very expensive) lawyer successfully arguing that "he wasn't technically violent" and "seriously, don't you have bigger supervillian fish to fry?" Jerome's sentence was greatly reduced.  There were some allegations that Jerome was renting off duplicates as "temporary hired muscle" to other inmates, but evidence was thin and ultimately dismissed.

He demonstrated himself to the prison board to be a reformed man and was eventually released on parole.  As part of his atonement, and to further reduce his time behind bars, he agreed to a sort of 'community service' in the form of working with a team of Augmented individuals.

Thus, Jerome rebranded himself as "Batallion" and became a "super hero".  The only visible evidence of his past activities is tattoo he got when he was in prison and the orange jumpsuit he wears.  On it's back is stenciled "Community Service".  "As a reminder to all those kids watching... or whatever"., he'll say.
