Laelia

Patron goddess of Cayaj, and guardian of the oppressed
Former Princess of Cayaj, sister to the former Shah Farzin, and a Lover of the Moon

Age: Appears 28

Appearance: Laelia has dark brown hair and skin that is generally pale, but tans quite well under the sun. She is fairly tall for a woman, with a figure that in the past year has turned fairly muscular. Her eyes are very dark blue, appearing black in most lights. Despite her status as a noble of Cayaj and a former princess, she has always dressed simply, favouring leather leggings and long tunics to fancy gowns. The only embellishment upon her person are the buttons running along the front or sometimes along the sides of her tunics, which are carved from bone or crafted from glass.

History: Though both of Laelia's parents were of Arajkasa, she was the first child born to the newly established dynasty of Cayaj. Though her father considered making her his heir, his wife vehemently rejected the notion. The queen then spent nearly a decade trying to produce a male who she believed would be the strong figurehead the new kingdom required. Finally, after being 'cursed', as she put it, with twin girls, Farzin was born and immediately became the Crown Prince of Cayaj.

Aaya's indifference to her daughters weighed heavily on the twins, but mattered not in the slightest to Laelia. She had grown close to her father as a child, and even closer still as she aged. He admired her sharp mind and cool resolve, remarking more than once that he wished she had been born male. But for all his admiration, he never proposed making her his heir in any seriousness. Laelia was known to shrug with disinterest if she was asked for an opinion on whether he might change his mind upon his death bed, or once her mother passed.

The Princess was only occasionally in the public light. She would disappear for months, even years, having been sent to tour the neighbouring countries or been cloistered away with this or that religious order. When her father grew ill, however, she returned to the capital and assumed the role of adviser to her younger brother. With her mother's passing only weeks later, she also stepped into her shoes, becoming the protector of her younger sister.

It was that latter role which saved her life when Kohil's army marched into the capital. Worried that the Tezcatili force would find its way into Cayaj, Laelia had taken Maaveli away to the coast to be sheltered by another branch of their family. But before they even reached there, the dam was shattered and Cayaj turned into a watery graveyard.
