Karl Bieber is known as "the man of the subsoil". He´s a Malkavian who stays in Ludwig Faust haven. He´s a plump man always dressed in pajamas and completely disheveled. He lives in a messy basement full of junk. He spends his time talking to himself and feeding on rats. Faust, who lives above, is the logical and rational mind, the Ego that judges and analyze. Karl, who lives in the basement represents the unconscious. His mind is tormented by the fragmented elements of his past. Nothing has been repressed in his mind, every emotionally moment of his life continually resurface. Being pure unconscious, Karl is unable to dominate his mental states and tends to live them passively. His monologues try to make sense of these fragments, try to put together  pieces. As he speaks he often helps himself by ordering the objects around him as if they represented facts of his life. The Kindred try to stay away from him when they go to talk to Faust. It seems that Karl has the power to understand the things more deeply hidden and repressed of the persons he meet, even though he communicates what he sees in a confusing and distorted way.
